I'll tell you what's sad. His last works were the video for Julian Lennon's first two singles. Imagine Itzhak Perlman's last performance being with a polka band at a church picnic and you get the idea. Thankfully we can enjoy the work he did in his prime.
I have ordered and watched the Passion & Poetry DVD from Mike Siegel, and it's absolutely amazing. A fantastic documentary on the life and films of Sam Peckinpah, with exclusive interviews from James Coburn, Ernest Borgnine, L.Q. Jones, David Warner, R.G. Armstrong and Kris Kristofferson. Highly recommended to anyone who likes Sam Peckinpah's brilliant work.
We filmed him before the PASSION & POETRY shoot at our Peckinpah-festival in Italy (September 2000). I was going to film him again in LA in December 2002 but he passed away the day I filmed the hacienda in Mexico...
It would have been ready to release by now, if it wasn't for those delays: broken hard drive, an accident I recently had (limited eyesight for two weeks).
But the end is not far away. Again: this will be a German release, my own release. I don't know about foreign markets yet! Of course I'll offer the rights to worldsalers etc. What happens then - I don't know!!
Ernest Borgnine, Kris Kristofferson (singing too), James Coburn, Ali MacGraw, L.Q.Jones, R.G.Armstrong, Senta Berger, David Warner, Bo Hopkins, Isela Vega, Vadim Glowna, Mario Adorf, Roger Fritz, Katy Haber, Dan Melnick. Chalo Gonzalez, Fern Lea Peter, Garner Simmons, David Weddle, Martin Lewis, Gordon Dawson, Lupita Peckipah & narrator Monte Hellman.
Looks great! I liked Man of Iron quite a bit (especially the excerpts read by Robarbs--"You're a well-poisoner Jerry, and i damn you for it."), but if there's ever anyone who deserved another look, it's Sam Peckinpah. Imagine how massive a McCarthy adaptation could've been in his hands!
im 14 in about 3 years i plan to get a tatoo that says"r.i.p bloody sam" across my neck,i fuckin love peckinpah,he really didnt give 2 shits, and it comes across in his films seen as most of the protaganists or heroes get killed ultimatley,he was also a bad kid, something i can relate to he was sent to millitary school and then joined the marine corps in ww2,the wild bunch and pat garrett are the greatest westerns ever made "if they move.....kill em'".
sergio leone was the best check out these westerns
the good the bad and the ugly
once upon a time in the west
duck you sucka aka fistful of dynamite
for a few dollars more
my name is nobody
fistful of dollars
and for the record peckinpaw's best western was ballad of cable hogue
listen and watch these movies kid trust me im right - popular opinion says i am plus im 40 not 14....you will end up gettin Leone tatoo'd on your neck lol
why don't you contradict yourself again for fun.......
trust me your knowledge of film falls drastically short of mine......
so take my advice and stay quiet......and make sure you see NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.....it's the best film ive seen since you were 35 years old....and while you are at it, purchase all 3 season's of DEADWOOD on DVD...it's the best TV show ever put on the tube.
Hard to take your self purported expertise seriously when you feel the need to personally insult to make a point. I read the novel No Country for Old Men (way better than the film) long before the film was made, and I had HBO when Deadwood was broadcast and saw all of the episodes. Speaking of contradiction, your previous post states your superior age as a proof of superior knowledge, then you denigrate me for doing the same thing.
Peckinpah was something Kubrick and other talented directors never could be....raw, bleeding emotions. Look at The Wild Bunch arguably one of the saddest films ever made, all heart...sadly missed.
Thank you for caring and showing us something other than Old Bloody Sam ----------- Sam was one of America'a best directors and he should never be forgotten---thank you for keeping his memory alive. His films are just as vivid and alive today as they were thirty years ago.
how good were his films ? the get away movie he made was the most profitable......and the worst movie he ever made..lol he was that good....drugs and alcohol are fine......brightest candles go out first...so what if you live to 59 or 79 whatever
Where did you get this trailer? I also hope that Passion & Poetry - The ballad of Sam Peckinpah will we soon released on DVD. I saw an extended segment of this documentary on the DVD release of Major Dundee, and that already was really interesting. Sam Peckinpah was an amazing director and human being, I really like to see the Don Siegel docu.
Glad you liked DUNDEE. If you can play R2 DVD's you should get the German STRAW DOGS 2-Disc Special Edition I'm currently producing for a July release. It'll contain a long documentary (almost twiceas long as the one I did for DUNDEE) and 5 featurettes exclusevely produced by me for that release (Germany only), altogether about 70 minutes (plus other extras like the Super-8 version, Trailer, Spots, 16-page booklet with 60 color stills and artwork reproductions).
Sure. The 2-disc DVD has a running time of 270 min. (main feature is 115 min. + 150 min. additional docs & supplements). Outside of Europe try eBay.

Great cast Mike (thanx for the German actors as well), wish Dylan was interviewed tho.

Really? That's great news, Mike! I really want to see your Peckinpah documentary very badly. Been waiting for it for years.
A 2-disc DVD, great! And what a fine cast, so much legends who worked with Sam. (Rutger Hauer could't make it?)
Is it going to be released in Europe and Holland as well? What is the release date?

Nah, Peckinpah kicks Leone's ass down the block, and his best western was Ride the High Country. And I'm 55, not 40.
Granted, Once Upon A Time in the West is my favorite western ever, but Peckinpah's stuff had more depth.
