In case you are wondering, that was a replay and the 'SC' symbol you see up top came as a result of this accident, so yes, there was a need to overtake Ralf as soon as possible and Ralf picked the single worst possible place to slow down.

That's why Alonso was pissed, I would be too if I'd been impeded by a slower car for the passed two laps and crashed as a result of it's stupidity.

Montoya can claim the award for the worst driver in F1 EVER. I have never seen any one else crashing into others behind a SAFETY CAR. He also made a lot of stupidly insane mistakes and even got impatient a few times behind the SAFETY CAR while he was in the race seat. Schumacher was on a winning streak, he could have won 10 races in a row if not for Montoya's moronic mistake.

But instead of that he took the tunnel curve by the clean side and make Alonso to overtake him using the dirty side, that made alonso to lose the control of his Renault and crash (very similar to what happened with Hulkenberg this weekend), that's why is he so angry with Ralf.

Alonso could have followed Ralf through the tunnel, maybe. It's hard to say from this video how much and when Ralf lifted. Alonso would have lost at least 1-2 secs doing that, and that time is a lot in F1. In any case, once Alonso decided to pass and moved left, Ralf should have lifted a lot more and not block the racing line. This is at least 90% Ralf's fault.

The idea is to get on the outside of the car you are overtakeing, so that you are on the inside by the time you arrive at the harbour chicane. He was just positioning his car but went a tad too wide, got on the marbles and understeered off.

He positioned himself far too early The Monaco tunnel is really bad for marbles off the racing line. Good drivers know you move over on the exit of the tunnel, not half way round it.
