The chainmail was purchased from a site called Build-a-Warrior, which has now disappeared. It is rubber, cast in a mould. Champagne bottles are bought - they held bubble liquid. Some glasses and bottles are cast in polyester resin, in a silicone rubber mould, made from shapes I turned on a lathe. And some straight-sided glasses are the clear caps of aerosol bottles of hair spray. I made the jug and beer steins from epoxy putty.
Wow! This is absolutely brilliant. Excellent animation - you really captured Max von Sydow and I love your new take on Death. An affectionate and smart parody. Every Bergman fan should see this. This is seriously worthy of the Oscar for Best Animated Short. Nice work - and the perfect length.
"Brilliant" doesn't begin to describe this little film. But I can't think of a better word so I'll just say it was brilliantly conceived and brilliantly executed. And, if everything I've heard about Ingmar Bergman is true, I think he would have enjoyed it tremendously. I certainly did. Thanks for this.
Hilarious!! I never saw the original Bergman film, 'The Seventh Seal' but I just watched a clip of the chess game scene on youtube. You did a great animation parody of it!!
It's shot on ones at 25 fps, and edited at PAL widescreen resolution.
I did find limitations to my compositing technique, where the first glasses came up much too transparent.
Marnikloysen - not much to show behind the scenes - a very small set with some rocks and gravel, and a big white screen behind.
Castlegardener - I raise a glass of Chateau Jardinier (which roughly translates as Castle Gardener) to you sir, for helping to keep the stopmo community alive!
You've done it again Nick! This is a great piece and something I'll enjoy reviewing over and over to study. Great fluid animation, loved the look and the misinterpreted speech.
wow...always impressive...so many little details that make it so incredible...the flowing robe was great as well as the drink effects...just amazing...you set the bar really high for us and always inspire us to push our puppets farther...great looking bottles, great brand....
It's really remarkable Mr. Hiligoss, I'm amazed by the high level of the animation, one can almost forget they are puppets, what frame rate did you use?, and with the special effects and editing, the film is excellent. I love the final twist.
The knight's head is cast from foam latex, and put on a generic body (a bit small for him, it was first used for a samurai) which also happens to be foam latex.
The skeleton has epoxy putty and Sculpey on the head,
over armature wire. The body is built up with epoxy putty and liquid latex.
LOVE it!!! Hahaha. That was fantastic. You are the master Nick. my favorite part is when they just start speaking gibberish in the subtitles. And the punchline of course.
Looks gorgeouse too. Love how the wind is blowing in death's robe at the start and the part where blondie is so drunk he misses the bottle when goes to reach for it. you really get the feeling he is wasted. The gel worked really nicely for the water. This should be at festivals!
Absolutely Brilliant!!! What a great story, it felt like far more than 2 minutes long to me because it's so compelling that I hung on every moment of it. Very Impressive!
amazing work , i love this movie, and i love stop motion too, congratulations

Yes, the sinbad-skeleton swordfight was the skeleton's next gig after this one.
