The ECW wrestlers from the locker room should have kept their asses in the back and let security handled that situation. All their involvement could have done was make a bad situation worse. XPW tried to perfect the Death Match but when ECW filed for bankruptcy death matches were all but dead! I havent seen a good Death Match since FMW when Atsushi Onita was the Boss!
I believe it was Jim Cornette who said Paul Heyman studied wrestling for years and years to be able to book like he did, and the problem is that guys watch Paul Heyman for two years and then they think they know wrestling as well. XPW embodies that problem.
It's also funny how critical Rob Black was of Paul Heyman, and how he used to shoot on Paul, when XPW relied so heavily on guys who were only known because Heyman put them over.
Paul E. Dangerously (later called Paul E.) studied and lived the business in his N.W. A. days. A lot of guys that Paul E. Dangerously managed went on to big things. A great example would be "the next big thing" Brock Lesnar.
All the big wrestling organizations started by doing shows with N.W.A. N.W.A. has helped every organization get started (W.W.E., W.C.W., E.C.W., T.N.A., R.O.H. etc).
I'll admit, XPW DID have some interesting matches from time to time, but their gimmicks were terrible, their storylines were complete crap, and they relied TOO MUCH on bashing other companies rather than improving their own product.
True, they had Big Dick Dudley, Chris Candido, Shane Douglas, Axl Rotten, and Abdullah the Butcher, but since most of them became famous at ECW that just made fans want to watch ECW all the more.
Allot of people blame Vince for burrying ECW. I don't believe this is the case at all. In reality, I am pretty sure that Vince invested in ECW. He helped popularize ECW as well in the mid 90's when he invited their talent to wrestle on RAW. That is how I personally found out about ECW, and I have been a fan ever since. I'm sure there are a bunch of other fans who were the same way. ECW simply ran out of money. Even though Vince helped them, it was business, and they were the competition.

haw, i had almost forgotten about this. i was at that show, and i remember the locker room emptied and dragged the xpw people and their friends and there was some brutal beatings in the parking lot and eventually paramedics and cops swarmed outside. but then again, that's about all i remember cause the olympic had huge cheap beers you could buy 6 @ a time. wasn't even until i got home later to find out it had anything to do w/xpw, i just chalked it up to drunks...
I'm from Philadelphia, I lived 4 blocks from the Arena. Those guys were easily approachable on the streets for an autograph or handshake. My nephews have pictures on Saturns front step with the world tag team belt around their waists. I'd rather have seen ECW gone, then have that abortion that Vince made.
XPW did good to get noticed even before some of the ECW guys went over there. Guys like The Messiah and Supreme were fun to watch. It's sad how things worked out.

There's no comparing the two. XPW had their unique style and ECW had their hard-core style. The point of the invasion was over turf and respect. For over five years ECW never went to the west coast. After a year of XPW they decided to come to the west coast because thanks to XPW they found that they had a market in the west coast so they brought their PPV there. That's what this was all about and of course to get publicity.
This was hardcore at it's best. Back when pro wrestling was cool for adults to watch. Hey Rob Black, when you get out jail please start up XPW again. WWE killed ECW and they won't ever get this extreme.

I actually think when XPW started doing shows on the east coast and hired 70% of the ECW guys, it wasn't all that bad. A lot of the XPW wrestlers still had the whole "Backyard wrestler" vibe to them, but by that time CZW had come along, so they could "compete" with their fanbase of about 200 people.
I liked Wrestling Society X. Sure, ridiculous it was, but it was far more entertaining than any other wrestling on television at the time.
i remember xpw being on tv at midnight. i always wondered why they were allowed to be on tv. when i tuned in to see xpw, i was never as bored as i was when i did see it. on the bright side, i got some good sleep thanks to xpw.

ECW grew from doing house shows and syndication of 500 ppl at the show, and 2000 ppl watching or something like that, to Pay-Per-View and national television. then was revived (sort of) by WWE. tell me, did xpw do that good in it's run?

IN 2000 xpw was a LOs angles based group. It was not into 2002 and 2003 they moved to the east cost. the east cost version was run by Shane Douglas. Which by most believe was there best years.
The sad thing about this is that XPW were trying to mimic the worked ECW "invasion" of the WWF in 1996. The worked ECW invasion four years earlier worked because ECW was more popular in the Northeast and the WWF was (at the time), and the reason this failed so badly is because XPW (as is obvious from the fans reaction) was not even as popular as ECW in their own hometown.

They didn't beat up the XPW wrestlers, just their ring crew. I think RVD said that they pointed out the XPW wrestlers, and they were kicked out, but their ring crew stayed behind and they got beaten up in the parking lot before the police came.

I actually think when XPW started doing shows on the east coast and hired 70% of the ECW guys, it wasn't all that bad. A lot of the XPW wrestlers still had the whole "Backyard wrestler" vibe to them, but by that time CZW had come along, so they could "compete" with their fanbase of about 200 people.
I liked Wrestling Society X. Sure, ridiculous it was, but it was far more entertaining than any other wrestling on television at the time.

The xpw guys were outside yelling at the ECW guys before the show went on. Balls Mahoney was getting in words with Supreme while some of us were in line. The fights during the match was crazy because ECW fans were kicking the shit of the xpw guys and fans. Best show i went to.

um. no. xpw did not even compete with ECW. xpw stayed on a fanbase of 50 to 200 ppl. ECW grew from doing house shows and syndication of 500 ppl at the show, and 2000 ppl watching or something like that, to Pay-Per-View and national television. then was revived (sort of) by WWE. tell me, did xpw do that good in it's run?

Rob Black like the idiot he is woke up and said hey ill try this hardcore wrestling thing, copy ECW and make some money. The "invasion" didnt work because 1) nobody gave a shit about XPW and 2) ECW was a hardcore style company but it was respected because it showed different styles of wrestling to the world. IN 2000 xpw was a LOs angles based group. It was not into 2002 and 2003 they moved to the east cost. the east cost version was run by Shane Douglas. Which by most believe was there best years.

The sad thing about this is that XPW were trying to mimic the worked ECW "invasion" of the WWF in 1996. The worked ECW invasion four years earlier worked because ECW was more popular in the Northeast and the WWF was (at the time), and the reason this failed so badly is because XPW (as is obvious from the fans reaction) was not even as popular as ECW in their own hometown.
XPW had some good talent and some unique stuff, but they tried way too hard to go for the controversy creates cash technique

the only homegrown wrestlers that were good in XPW were Kaos and The Messiah and that's it everyone else sucked and botched and half-assed alot of moves and spots, that's why they brought in experienced wrestlers to make up the lack of talent and experience that they had.they were too much like ECW but half-assed they had hot chicks in it but they were drug addicts and sluts.their promo skills were weak.

The best show I've ever been too :) I was only 13 at the time but I was able to get a front row seet with my older bro, Tommy Dreamer was wrestling some jobber and I gave him my coca cola can and he took a sip, smacked the jobber in the face with it, gave it back to me and gave me a high-five, I'll never forget that. Also saw Sabu and RVD perform, awesome!

I'm an ECW fan first and foremost, and this dumb little stunt aside(which was blown out of proportion; the XPW guys just wanted to show their shirts), I just see XPW as something to follow because it has that ECW spirit and attitude more than anything else in wrestling these days. With Vince pissing all over ECW's grave, XPW(presuming it comes back full time) can now provide a platform for the ECW Originals to show what they can do in their kind of environment.

I was at this show, ECW was new to the area, so XPW was there to bring attention to their product, the thing is XPW should have just watched, acted cool, etc, it probably could have worked out a working agreement with xpw. My brother(A bad MoFo from Montclair) was walking to his seat, when a valley boy jumped in front of him with an "X" sign, yelling XPW!
