Hi Kangadillo! I was formerly using a friend's account, elviskingofmusic. But, now I have my own, "Valeysgirl." I am sure you know the significance of my user name, lol! I am now and always will be Valey's girl! :-)
Yes, he drives me wild. 85 years after his death, I am madly in love with him. I had, of course, known of him all my life. But, recently, I happened to have been playing on You Tube and it lead me to a clip of, "The Sheik." I then watched the full version of it right away. Then "Son of the Sheik." In the latter, you can see in his eyes that, although he is angry with Yasmin, he still loves her. Sigh! What can I say? I am hooked!
Thank you so much for posting this video. He had the most beautiful eyes. Certainly not his only exquisite feature, but definitely one of them. I love the way he expressed his feelings in The Sheik and Son of the Sheik simply through his gorgeous, sexy, expressive eyes. As Gloria Swanson's (one of the lucky people to have known Rudy personally), character, Norma Desmond, said in Sunset Boulevard, "we didn't need dialogue, we had faces." How true!
@elviskingofmusic I'm so glad you like it, thank you. And I agree, in those days they sure did have faces. And so much charisma and magic. No one today has that.
Oh p.s. I hope you don't mind but I'd like to post this to our site? If that's ok w/you give me the thumbs up. It has to be no more than two minutes long and this one fits the description, along with the fact it's just a great vid and I adore that music!!!
@Miauriceful Hmm. I read from some source I can't recall at the moment, his non-acceptance at the academy was due to his chest measurement (too small). I do know though he didn't have great eyesight but to what extent I have no clue. :)
I read the same. Many sources say that he was rejected for physical problems (but they are not clearly specified), someone writes "too kind constitution", and myopia.
For my personal experience I know that the requirements to attend the 'Naval Academy are very high and the view has to be perfect, so I think he has been excluded mainly for the, though slight, eyesight, .
@Miauriceful "Too kind constitution?" I love that! That is very moving. Isn't that something -- if he had just been a little physically different, he would have gone into the navy, and the history of cinema would have been completely different (but not in a good way).
I believe he has never worn glasses, none of those who knew him never spoke of it.
I read last week that an Italian director is shooting a short fil Valentino in Venice, when he was in the city to enter the academy.
The story tells the encounter between the young Rodolfo and a beautiful English widow of a Venetian Count.
I think it isn't a real story and otherwise will be hard to see the film in theaters, but is a nice thing that a young director make Valentino his inspiration.
A lot of it has to do with black and white lighting, which really is best for bringing about the glassy eyes look, but I know for a fact he inherited some beautiful eyes. c:
@MelloMix Do you happen to know from whom in his family he inherited them? I've seen pictures of his mother and father and he didn't look anything like either of them. So I still wonder where he got his heavenly handsomeness.
@kangadillo Well let's look at it this way. A lot of beautiful people come from both France and Italy, and his parents are both French and Italian (as far as I know?), so if you mix two good things together, you're bound to get something better. c: I myself look like my great aunt more than anyone else in my family, so maybe he takes more after his grandfather or grandmother? There's also all the geneaology to keep in mind. c:
@MelloMix Absolutely! I bear a strong resemblence to my maternal grandmother. I have a cousin who doesn't resemble his blond haired, blue-eyed Scottish father in the least. My cousin is the spitting image of his dark haired, dark-eyed, maternal grandfather who is Italian.
@TheLadyMalfoy I'm much the same way. I look absolutely nothing like my mother or my father, but I look exactly like my great aunt when she was my age. My little brother is also the spitting image of myself, only a boy. c;
@kangadillo You're right. Whenever I look at pictures of Rudy's parents and his brother, not to be mean or disrespectful to Rudy's family, it's obvious Rudy inherited all the good looks in the family.
@EutuveX No need to be a smartass. Genetics don't come from nowhere, they're passed down through family, so obviously SOMEONE in his family gave him his eyes. And it doesn't have to be his papa, either. Genetics can skip generations. I PASSED BIOLOGY WITH AN A. :D
@MelloMix I wish we could see more photos of his earlier ancestors, like his grandparents. Or maybe he looked like one of his uncles, or even aunts. But the further back you go in time, the more rare photographs become.
@kangadillo I'm sure if you went to an immigration office or found some archives somewhere, you could find some historic photographs. It could be a long, arduous hunt, but there's bound to be some material somewhere.
@MelloMix Very well said. Rudy has incredibly beautiful eyes and he speaks volumes with those gorgeous eyes. I'm certain he did inherit those magnificent eyes and it's quite possible his stunning good looks were inherited from family who lived a good century before he was born.
@VictoriaRu29 I totally agree.Interesting trivia fact, the same year that this gorgeous creature died, the Ultimate female sex symbol was born...Marilyn Monroe.
You did very well, too, from a linguistic standpoint and in terms of telling him what a jerk he is. By the way, you will find two messages from "JibJab" in your email box. Please only open the more recent one. The first one isn't so good so I fixed it and send a better one.
The marriage was never consummated because Jean Acker was a lesbian and she never told Rudy. Later she tried to make the whole thing look like his fault to avoid admitting she was gay. She was gay, not him. She really hurt him and I don't think it's right to hurt him again today.
He is so beautiful. I have the feeling he is a beautiful soul, too.

Believe me or not, but he is only a little shortsighted. For this reason it was not accepted at the Academy of the Italian Royal Navy.

@kangadillo I've never seen him in glasses, only monocles from that Isle of Love movie.
