Of course depriving gay people of civil rights is an act of bigotry and if taking rights away from gay families isn't an act of hate, then what is it? The majority of people in the USA don't even vote, so this has never been about the "majority".

Sorry, but that is untrue. There have been studies about homosexuality and the differences in the hypothalamus between straight men and gay men. There have also been studies dealing with hormones and pheromone responses between straight men and gay. The FBI and other police agencies used to regularly attack gay people. Their whole Stonewall movement was because they finally fought back against police harassment. There used to be laws where gays were attacked and harassed by police simply for congregating together. Gays have had to fight for basic human rights for years. Gays have been victimized in housing, with hate crimes, and via harassment for years. Of course gay rights are civil rights.

Domestic partnerships are ONLY valid in the state they are issued in. They lack the same level of protection that marriage gives. If a person moves from one state to another where there is no domestic partnership law, they lose their protections. Gay couples can not file jointly on their taxes either. They pay higher taxes because of this. I'm Sorry but depriving gay couples of these rights was an act of bigotry and homophobia. It was as wrong as the laws that prevented interracial marriage.
According to the State of California Tax Franchise Board, same-sex couples filing for years prior to 2007 must file individually. For the 2007 tax year, gay and lesbian couples can file joint state taxes.
What about FEDERAL taxes. You see there is still a huge disparity between the way gays are treated and the way the rest of us are treated by the US federal government.
If legislation made it possible to overturn the federal mandate as it stands today so that gay couples could also have the same federal benefits without necessarily calling it marriage, would that be fine?
It would certainly be a start. I am a member of one of the two mainstream Christian churches that recognizes gay marriage. I think if the US DOESN'T create a FEDERAL civil partnership for the gays, then the US Supreme Court will eventually decide that what has been done is unconstitutional due to the religious clauses under the first amendment.
The only thing that would do that would be a law which states outright that civil unions are equal to marriage. These anti-gay laws specify that civil unions will not be equal to marriage.
Remember this, marriage and the military are simply two of the final holdouts of discrimination. The people promoting marriage discrimination are the same ones who said that we wanted job protection so we could molest children, and that "homosexual panic" was a defense for murding gay people.
Even if same sex marriage was legalized, they would still have to pay higher taxes because those taxes they pay are recognized at the federal level in which they don't recognize same sex marriage.
Actually, under the full faith and credit clause of the fourth amendment, if gay marriages are legal in one state, then they SHOULD be legal in ALL states. The defense of marriage act would NOT negate an article of the constitution. The way the Federal Government of the USA has been treating gay people is obvious discrimination.
The premise here is that being gay, lesbian or transgender is a choice. This well educated Christian leaders are misinformed on this point. Just as they were born with black skin, certain individuals were born with the sexual determination of gay, straight or mis-gendered. By their own definition then, as they didn't choose to be black, gay, lesbian and transgendered people didn't choose their innate gender orientaion.

Civil Rights are a class of rights ensuring things such as the protection of peoples' physical integrity; procedural fairness in law; protection from discrimination based on gender, religion, sexual orientation, race, etc; individual freedom of belief, speech, association, and the press; and political participation. The idea that sexual orientation is a choice is not shared by many, especially rationalists.
Coretta Scott King was in favor of gay marriage. She understood that this IS a civil rights issue. The black men in this video are uneducated bigots. This misconstrues what a civil right is. A civil right is the right of a person to live according to one's choices if those choices don't hurt others. Thus, it is irrelevant to claim that a choice to live a certain way removes the protections of civil rights for those people.

Husband is just a male that is married. In a perfect world, every child could be loved by their birth mother and father, but is this always the case? No. Haven't two parents is better than having none. I take it you're probably pro-life, where should all the babies that would've been aborted go? To spend 18 years in an orphanage? Reproduction is not a requirement of marriage. Its not like our planet is overpopulated or anything. The most important thing in a marriage is love, not the genitals.

eezyone, the problem with your argument is that you desire to apply your religion into civil law. We do have a separation of church and state spelled out in the 1st amendment. It is fine if you want to think LGBT are going to hell, but yuo don't get to write any laws based on that. If you want to write secular law, you must use secular reasons.

Research shows that sexual orientation cannot be changed, only sexual orientation identity. Same-sex attractions can be reduced, but not eliminated. You're still gay, you just don't call yourself that. You may be married to a woman, but that doesn't mean that you are attracted to women as much as you are men.
And teaching acceptance of homosexuality in schools? That is to stop kids from bullying gays into committing suicide and prevent hate crimes. But I guess your loving God wants them dead?

I am not given the same rights as anyone when it comes to marrying the one person on this Earth that I am in love with.
If I was able to change the fact that I fell in love with another man, I probably would because of the prejudice I recieve for it. But I LOVE him. And it's not a preferance. I just so happened to fall in love with him. I can't change my mind about who I love.

Asking if it is a civil right misses the point entirely. Imagine if a university gave out PhDs only to whites and not blacks. Doctorate degrees are NOT a right, but a priviledge. So why should anyone be up in arms about this? The reason is that by framing the question of "Do you have a state/federal right to X" is misleading and misses the point. The issue here is Equal Protection under the law.

You are completely off base about gay people. The majority of gay people have two straight people as parents. They were raised in the same type of home environment that straight were raised in. Therefor, for the most part, they have similar values to straight people (despite what you might have heard or seen from a small minority of the gay community). Gay people want the same things that all people want, equality to be who they are and to live an authentic life.

Recognizing gay unions through the legal institution of marriage transfers rights such as medical benefits to gay couples. It ensures that the children of these couples are protected in case on of the partners in the relationship dies. It allows gay couples in US to take the same deductions that straight couples take when filing income tax. Denying these rights and protections to gay families is pure bigotry and discrimination.

In his original sin/skin speech, notice how carefully McKissic chooses his words . He asks, "Has a white lesbian ever been lynched for whistling at a white girl?".
He doesn't ask if a white boy has ever been killed for "whistling at", coming on to, smiling the wrong way at, or simply being gay in front of a white boy. He doesn't ask that, because the answer is YES.

It is not bigotry to say that homosexuality is incomparable to skin color, which is a matter of creation indeed. Most African people (apparently Desmond Tutu isn't one of them -- or isn't he) will tell you the same.
Plus, South Africa today, with a nice chunk of the government still controlled by whites, is still a very racist, very Americanized nation in which Oprah Winfrey opened a GIRLS-ONLY school!

Of course depriving gay people of civil rights is an act of bigotry and if taking rights away from gay families isn't an act of hate, then what is it? No matter how you try to dress it up, that precisely what this is about. If you don't want GAY MARRIAGE then don't marry someone of the same sex. The majority of people in the USA don't even vote, so this has never been about the "majority".

Where is their sense of compassion, logic and history? My grandparents were holocaust survivors. We were taught that every individual deserves tolerance and respect, regardless. Where do they get that being gay is a choice? Who chooses to face humiliation, discrimination and persecution within their communities and from their own family? Gay rights are civil rights. Gay people are born with their sexual orientation the same way we are born with ours. There are examples of homosexuality in ALL higher orders of animals including humans. Being gay is natural FOR GAY PEOPLE the same way that being straight is NORMAL for us. Gay rights are civil rights. To deny that fact is to turn a blind eye to scientific evidence and the discrimination that is going on around you.

Sorry, but that is untrue. There have been studies about homosexuality and the differences in the hypothalamus between straight men and gay men. There have also been studies dealing with hormones and pheromone responses between straight men and gay. There are also several case studies dealing with gay people on the APA website that you can look up as well.

The FBI and other police agencies used to regularly attack gay people. Their whole Stonewall movement was because they finally fought back against police harassment. There used to be laws where gays were attacked and harassed by police simply for congregating together. Gays have had to fight for basic human rights for years. Gays have been victimized in housing, with hate crimes, and via harassment for years. Of course gay rights are civil rights.

Domestic partnerships are ONLY valid in the state they are issued in. They lack the same level of protection that marriage gives. If a person moves from one state to another where there is no domestic partnership law, they lose their protections. Gay couples can not file jointly on their taxes either. They pay higher taxes because of this. I'm Sorry but depriving gay couples of these rights was an act of bigotry and homophobia. It was as wrong as the laws that prevented interracial marriage.

It would certainly be a start. I am a member of one of the two mainstream Christian churches that recognizes gay marriage. I think if the US DOESN'T create a FEDERAL civil partnership for the gays, then the US Supreme Court will eventually decide that what has been done is unconstitutional due to the religious clauses under the first amendment.

The only thing that would do that would be a law which states outright that civil unions are equal to marriage. These anti-gay laws specify that civil unions will not be equal to marriage.
Remember this, marriage and the military are simply two of the final holdouts of discrimination. The people promoting marriage discrimination are the same ones who said that we wanted job protection so we could molest children, and that "homosexual panic" was a defense for murding gay people.

Actually, under the full faith and credit clause of the fourth amendment, if gay marriages are legal in one state, then they SHOULD be legal in ALL states. The defense of marriage act would NOT negate an article of the constitution. The way the Federal Government of the USA has been treating gay people is obvious discrimination.

The premise here is that being gay, lesbian or transgender is a choice. This well educated Christian leaders are misinformed on this point. Just as they were born with black skin, certain individuals were born with the sexual determination of gay, straight or mis-gendered. By their own definition then, as they didn't choose to be black, gay, lesbian and transgendered people didn't choose their innate gender orientaion.

Wait. Wait. Wait... "Civil Rights" as a term does not belong to African-Americans alone. Civil Rights are a class of rights ensuring things such as the protection of peoples' physical integrity; procedural fairness in law; protection from discrimination based on gender, religion, sexual orientation, race, etc; individual freedom of belief, speech, association, and the press; and political participation. The idea that sexual orientation is a choice is not shared by many, especially rationalists.
