Think about all of the run-down mills in the Upstate, just sitting there with their mill ponds...
Now imagine those ponds with a small-scale hydro-electric turbine, providing point-of-use electricity for the surrounding area.
This wouldn't solve the entire state's power demand, but for the neighborhoods surrounding any of the scores of defunct mills, it could make a considerable dent.
