I had the pleasure of meeting Christy and spending some time with him in the early 1990s. His shop was like a concertina players dream and "yes" I even played concertina in the bathroom. (you had to be there to understand about "the best sound.") We talked about the differences in playing styles between us Chicago style players and those from Minn. and Wisc. It was special and unique for me to spend time with Christy - one I'll always treasure!
Great . . and wonderful to know that the Hengel Concertina name will go on. My Dad, Vernon Bottenfield played and wrote with the Dutchmen for years. I have been friends with Christy since i was about 8 years old . . when he played with the Dutchmen . . while Emil Milbrett was in Korea. He was a wonderful friend to my father until he passed in 1995.
Wonderful presentation! Dieter
