If you don't mind me asking, how much do you weigh? We have a 11 hand 5 yr old pony mare that I want to train. I weigh about 130 and I'm 5'7". My saddle takes up her entire back. So far I've ridden her bareback at a walk, but I"m concerned that I'm hurting her. She's a Shetland/mini cross.
@sylvesmiller hi! thanks for your comment. :) I weigh about 92 lbs and am 5'2". I think you may want to consider having a smaller person ride your pony, just because your pony is so small. However, I think a few little training rides a few times a week won't her- Shetlands are stronger than they look! Good luck!

wow he's a cutie! he's going to be fancy when you're done with him! i guess it's a good thing that you're huge on him because if he tries to pull any stunts you can wrap your leg around him and sit to it lol!

I keep the rides very short.
