@paraglidermx YouTube does no favours for the sound of this amp. I think your opinion would change if you actually hear a Diezel Herbert in person. It is a BEAST! I've had the pleasure of owning my Diezel for nearly 3 years now and i've not heard many amps that come close.

hahaha... you are such a retard. Youtube vids are LO-Fi. So you can't judge an amp based youtube. I own a VH4 and it destroys Mesa, Marshall, and Fender.

VH4 cleans are amazing. But you need to run it with 6L6 and have the bias set at 75% wattage of the tube. At that bias setting, the high gain sounds too warm and fuzzy. So you either have to bias it for optimal cleans or optimal high-gain. I'm a "metal" guy, so I go with the 60% bias on 6L6s. Amazing tone.

You are correct! I run for perfect cleans on my Diezel Herbert. I'm more of a classic 80's guy, so there's lots of "juice" left for some awesome 80's tones in my amp even though I have the bias set for optimal cleans.

I'm choosing between this amp and possibly and ENGL Invader. Unfortunately, there aren't dealers around where I live to try them out in person, so I have to rely on youtube and other sound clips on other web sites. Now, the Herbert retails for about $1300 more than the ENGL Invader. Both amps sound pretty good to me. Is the Herbert really worth that much more than the ENGL Invader as far as sound? What does it have more than the Engl? Or are they both good for the money? Decisions, Decisions.

I've never played an ENGL Invader, so its hard for me to compare. However, if you did go for a Diezel you won't be dissapointed!

@alanjason I owned both... they're totally different sounding amps. The Diezel sounds more processed and a bit more thumpy. The ENGL is more open sounding and raw... both are pretty compressed when you're gained out. ENGL may be a bit more dynamic. I liked both.. but really it just depends on what kind of sound you're after. Worth is a tough call. Both are awesome.. but they're not even clsoe to the similar.

The herbert switches with any midi pedal, and can phantom power if the pedal is capable of it.

Herbert doesn´t sound anything like a solid state. Actually it sounds quite organic and you can get just about any sound out of it. It has 180 watts but it sounds very good even at low volumes. Maybe you should remember that this is Youtube and the sound changes "quite" a lot from room to your speakers. Also different players, guitars, pickups and so on change the sound. What I´m saying is that you have to try it yourself before making statements like that.

Volume and watts have almost nothing to do with each other. Watts give you headromm, not really volume. You'll need 1000 watts to be twice as loud as 100 watts. Think about it.

The wattage does determine the volume of the amp but it is also true to say that past a certain point it makes no difference. Amps like this one have such a high wattage for headroom purposes so the clean channel stays as clean as possible all the time and the gain channel(s) stays as tight as possible.

Watts are how much electricity is being used, the more electricity or current, the louder it gets, if the amp is high enough quality to handle the extra current or power. Tube amps are usually considered louder than electronic amps, at least at the same wattage.

The Herbert is a very versatile amp. It does do warm and sweet, but not as good as the Einstein in my opinion. I find the Herbert a lot more "Throaty"...

Watch this space tho. I'm gonna do another vid to try and demonstrate more of the tones you can get from this thing.

Not really mate...the only bit I had trouble with was stopping it changing the tonality of my signal. After turning the Kill Dry off, setting the right Input/Output levels it sits silently in the signal. I'm currently running it through the Serial Loop as i'm using the Noise Gate
