  • u know what's funny, on itunes it shows song popularuty, and the top 7 songs are all DLR, not Sammy, all sammy had Van Halen do was ballads, i have no problem with ballads, but you can't just take a band like VH and change it from original rock to pure crap. - I support DLR

  • Saw this tour 5 times, and every show got better & better! Yea, Wolfgang was a little "premature" to be up there, but he stuck it out & did well. I still wish Mike would've have been there, but ..........

  • Van Halen is and always be my band....but even i can see that Wolfgang has no stage presence. he was thrust into this situation too soon. he needed to play a shit load of clubs and bars to really learn how to connect with an audience.

whatever Michael Anthony lacked in "musicianship" he made up for in his performance and stage presence. he knew how to play off the other guys in the band and acknowledge the audience too...even back in the day when he was closer to the age Wolfie is in this vid.

  • Man, i don't believe you're thinking this about VH, if i could, i go every vh concerts, especially with diamond dave, i prefer this kind of songs than van hagar years, but i'm waiting the band to come in Brazil to see the biggest guitar all time: Eddie Van Halen

  • Is it me, or is this the best damn stop they had on that tour OR what?

  • Proud to say I was there (^_^)

  • Here's a basic comparison of the 2 versions of Van Halen:

    1) Van Hagar = corporate pop rock band best known for radio-friendly love ballads appealing to soccer Moms and led by a flabby tequila salesman with mediocre vocal talent and sub-par lyrical abilities

    2) Roth Van Halen = smokin' hot American rock band that rose to prominence with a powerful combination of fun & furious songs, blazing concerts and led by a superior acrobatic frontman and ass-kicking guitarist who changed the world

  • Sammy is the Party Man! I love him!

  • Eddie changed the world of guitar playing, you are right. You are right, but in a technical sense, Sammy has more vocal extension, more vibratto control, plays at least the guitar, and prefers music to shopping center. I tell Dave's fans to read what Eddie said when the former left the band: I want a musician, not a rock star. Dave had some good performances, but his ego was bigger than his tallent. It's an opinion(humble) of a simple musician and scientist, nothing else.

  • What you need to understand is that Eddie has said a lot of stupid shit over the years -- either because he's dumb or drunk or both. Here's what he said in 1997 after he hired Gary Cherone as lead singer:

" It's like I've been waiting 20 years for my musical soulmate. "

The album VH3 didnt even go platinum, and Eddie fired Cherone in 1999!

So you see, Eddie is a dummy when he isn't playing guitar, and he knows Dave is WAY BETTER than Hagar ever was --- the fans always knews this.

  • You are right about many things Eddie said. I like Dave's old studio performances. He is a great front man too, but I do not agree he is very good when he is singing in a live show. His voice loses a lot. Sammy had some ridiculous performances too like some stuff like Love Walks In. Both of them have their goods and bads. I really agree with you that we had a hard rock band with Dave and some pop/rock stuff with Sammy. Both ages have their goods and bads too, I think. Thanks for reading.

  • Totally agree with U. Can't understand how Van Hagar sold out any shows. I guess a lot of people had bad musical tastes in the mid and late 1980s.

  • @Hunkola Hey Kook.. Have you ever gone to a VH show or does your minimum wage job prevent you from that.. Roth sounds like shit. Guarantee you he didn't play any of Hagars songs cause he doesn't have the range that Hagar has... Roth doesn't look like an acrobatic front man to me... .. I bet you even agree with them booting Michael Anthony too.

  • @GABEPERKINS -- I been to hundreds of VH shows, dippy.......Diamond Roth is the ultimate frontman and he makes women's panties wet when he sings.......but Hagar sounds like a faggot in heat and everyone is glad he's out of Halen........so go back to wacking off to your poster of fat Sammy in his red-rocked douche outfit and the rest of us VH fans will rock out Dave style

  • @Hunkola : hehe...you told him!

  • @GABEPERKINS sorry, i didnt realize that sammy wrote all of the big hits like "jump", "panama" hot for teacher" "runnin with the devil" "dance the night away" "aint talkin bout love" "ice cream man" "unchained" "jamie's Cryin" everybody want's some". and all of there big hits. theres a reason that in 1984 when Jump was released, it was #1 on the charts for 2 yeah 2 years. face it sammy sucks, nobody likes him, and besides he hates eddie and claims he was ubductded by aliens.

  • @germanygibson.. Are you aware that eddie van halen wrote most of 1984 including jump, panama in his home studio.. DLR wrote the lyrics but the real genius in all of VH songs is with eddie and alex writing the music. The reason eddie and DLR tensions boiled thru is because eddie wanted to start initializing synthesizers into their sound.. DLR didn't think it fit with the mainstream rock sound at the time. You can agree that panama and jump created a different sound..

  • Hunkola your an idiot and so is dave. i've been in a band for 5 years and in one 3 before that. Chemistry has nothing to do with it. it's all talent. and dave had very little eddie was halen and still is.

  • David Lee Roth is the reson Van halen is called Van halen. They were originally named Mammoth!Gene Simmons discovered them in 1997.

They found out there was another band named Mammoth.Roth said we should change our name to Van halen.Eddie was aginst it!But,Eddie had

    a change of heart later thankfully.He wasn't

a grumpy dick back then.David Lee Roth was 1

of the greatest frontmen ever!Watch on youtube

Van Halen 1981 in Oakland-Unchained.Look at the crowd it was f'n electric!

  • My bad Gene Simmons discovered them in 1977 not 97 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Actually, I retract that last comment. i admire Hunkola's fervor. it is uncoordinated and awkward as it is relentless. Roth IS awesome...

  • is there a mute button for this hunkola retard?

  • I've come to the obvious conclusion that Spammy Fagar fans are nothing but cock-sucking retards.....why else would they worship a no-talent, obese liar who only became a rock star in order to sell tequila? Spammy is the biggest huckster in the history of rock 'n roll. Think about that carefully before you praise the Red Rockin' Douche-Queen.......

  • After seeing some of Hunkola's comments on this I have come to a conclussion that Hunkola, he still has a fantasy about orally servicing Roth all these years later as well.

  • It's called a man crush.

  • Agreed.

  • do they not fucking rock or what..

  • Fuck...

    that must be so loud....

  • The magic of Van Halen is that David Lee kicks Eddie in the ass and it makes him play better, and Eddie's improved play makes Dave sing and act crazier...they feed off each other....it was a winning formula that resulted in six consecutive multi-platinum records that are legendary.

  • David Lee Roth is not an instrumentalist by any means, so I don't see how he can kick Eddie in the ass and make him play better.

  • You havent the foggiest clue about how a band works.....I've been in a rock band and chemistry is the most important element at work.....David Lee Roth was the catalyst to allow Eddie to come up with all those smoking hot riffs in the late 70's and early 80's.....otherwise Ed would still be doing boring Cream jams....you were never in a band so you dont understand this important dynamic...safe to say Eddie never could have written all those great riffs without Dave kickin' his ass in the studio.

  • DLR was hardly involved in the band's songwriting process save writing the lyrics.

  • this is the chemistry

    eddie-wrote riffs and some lyrics

    dlr- wrote lyrics

mike- bass lines and some lyrics

alex- rythym and some lyrics (he wrote,so this love?: just a fun fact)

  • Rootz boy when does the torrent come out??????

  • They may not be jumping and running around like they used to but when you sound THIS GOOD...who cares! VH, a proper R'n'R band still playin with fire and passion. Brill!!! Get over to the UK!!!!!!!!

  • Have to laugh at the lighting. Eddie's son is left in the dark.

  • Wolfgang is great o.O amazing playing

  • hey man i saw them twice in october and am going 3 times in march, your vids are really helpn me through the slump

and btw i think you sat like 3 rows behind me at the concert of the 12th

  • o man i didnt wolfgang would do it, but he cut them vocals like hot knife through butter, didnt think he could sing anything like michael antony, but he can pull it off. good shit

  • I agree. Wolfy is way better than my expectations. I am a Michael Anthony fan and I miss him, but the kid does a good job playing and singing. I have to admit that this is one of the best shows of the tour. Can't wait to see them at The Echo Arena in Sacramento.

  • sadly im a brit, so unless they come over here, or the airlines get a bit cheaper, i wont be able t osee them play :(

  • They will play anywhere they can make money. If there is a demand, they will show up. Don't miss it if you get a chance.

  • yer i know man, and dont woryr i dont plan too. should be gettin back stages to see def leppard if they go on tour in england, thatll b grand. hopefully vh will tour next year

  • Wolfy is one bad mother

thought less of him too but that kid definitely got his dad's genes

  • Its hard to tell the two toronto shows apart. ive realized eddies pants are different though lol.

  • I said it before on rootzboy's other VH vids..Amazing show..crowd was into it..DAve sounded great...much better than he has in recent years with his solo bands.. It's great to see Eddie enjoying himself again.. I wasn't as amazing as lunchboxeater43 though.. (just making a crack at your typo bro.)

  • Great footage, rootzboy. I enjoyed all your videos.

  • Fuckin awesome how Alex extended the cowbell intro....I LOVE IT!!! It's a killer song to be begin with, but I love how the band fucks around a little.....adds a lot of character!!!

  • well we all had a fever. the only cure was more cowbell!! haha couldnt resist the saturday night live bit. perfect opportunity man.
