  • The only Ligeti piece that has a sense of meter =p

  • good, but it comes across more vividly in the earlier recording on wergo- -

  • I've already heard the other version you mentions. I haven't seen the sheet of the opera but without it I can say that Esa-Pekka Salonen did a better job than the other conductor. Ligeti also ackowledged Salonen's talent in his works. Sorry for debating with you but this is my opinion and Ligeti's too...

But thanks for commenting. I thought that I could not leave it without reaction

  • I agree with japanesesweet. In my opinion Howarth realized a version of this car horn prelude much nearer to Ligeti's idea of making a parody of Monteverdi's preludes.

  • genio

  • I probably wasn't very clear,as i was only remarking on the car horn prelude -for me,the slower tempo (grungier feel to it) and different recorded perspective works better. But that's just my opinion/reaction.

I like the Salonen recording-it's the one i have and it's unfortunate that the composer was famously tricky to work with in some of the later recording sessions of the series.
