Essentially the intro goes to around 1:52. Then the next section builds tension for the breakdown beginning at 3:04 with the guitar riff and piano repeating hypnotically. Old school rock used that approach alot. Zeppelin was great at it, Dazed and Confused being a prime example. If you thrash from start to finish it really doesn't come across all that hard or heavy to me, though I do listen to metal music. Build tension and make the listener wait for it then it has more effect.
For a young buck that I once was in the early 70's . . This song was an athem of American Freedom from the repression of a conservative society that held Power!
Well I can't explain the feeling of that music. I like all musics of CCR, but this is special, only people who likes CCR will understand. It's like every effect could transmit that feeling, the guitar, drums, the other sounds, everything on that music sounds special.
Could we please dispense with the VERY TIRED comparisons of classic music to new music???? Whether it's true or not- IT'S BEEN SAID 10;000 times on here!!!!! Just feel the music people...
I did a few gigs production wise with John Fogerty recently and when they came out to do soundcheck. I was blown away. They did an extended jam of this one which surprised the crap outta me. His playing never sounded better and the tone of his guitar was stellar and nicely loud.
I went out to the front of house to listen they nearly blew me outta my chair. Closed my eyes and I thought it was 1970 again with CCR.
Seriously, what is grong with people nowadays? If you don't hear metal or Bieber they laugh at you.......Fuck them. I'm 19 and I would rather listen this that shits like Cannibal Corpse of Bieber.
Amazing. I thought I was the only one. CCR / John Fogerty are my number one favorite ever, and as odd as it may sound, I'm also a huge fan of anything with Chris Barnes on vocals. If you want to hear another really neat old song check out 'Just Dropped In' by Kenny Rogers.
Seriously, that's amazing. I thought I was the only one? Just curious, do you like the song 'Livin Thing' by ELO? What about the old Entombed? You cant beat that old drop-C guitar sound!
@JTSA58 I always loved the intro to Living Thing. I'm more of a secret ELO fan nowadays because all the hipsters love them. I used to have nearly all sorts of metal on my computer, including Entomed...Slayer, Vader, Megadeth, Iced Earth, Metal Church, Cryptopsy, Death, Annhilator, all sorts of shit. I've never been much of a fan of anything much lower than D, but thats just me HA!
(FYI, my Youtube account got all screwed up so I had to change my name.)
You must have been looking at my old record and tape collection when you named all those bands. It's nice to know that there's someone else out there that can appreciate all types of good rock / metal music. Interesting, I didn't know the new age wimpy little hippie types liked ELO. Well at least they have good taste in music I guess... I'm glad someone else listens to CCR and CC besides me. Thanks.
@ walter4092, Pendulum in my opinion is CCR's best album. Perhaps you meant the Mardi Gras album? On the Pendulum album all the band members were allowed more input. For example, Stu Cook played piano on Pendulum. John Fogerty himself said that Pendulum was his favorite CCR album.
@watutman you re right about the mardi grass , but my opinion is wille and the poor boys and cosmo s factory were the best albums of CCR .The high days of CCR were 69 70 and 71 , They had their place in the history of music , i was an teenager those years , born 54 and i am sure that in the future people who are young now can t say that this music was shit , in my eyes 90 % of the music today is reaaly shit .
@watutman I've noticed, for instance note Stu Cook's bass during "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?", "Born to Move", "It's Just a Thought", "Hey Tonight", "Molina"...
I Grew up with this music and the whole generation. It really was just that good!! There is no comparison to this genre today. Many thanks to the true pioneers of music during this period. Sometimes you don't realize how good things were until you're stuck listening to the mindless sh_t offered today! The best is still always the best...always will be!
oh man those where the days the keggers down at the gravel pit skinny dipping in the pond ccr blasting on the stereo I would give anything to do it again
There comes a time in an artist's career, if they are lucky, where they both encapsulate and transcend all that they have done before, crystallizing their essence into one stunning, unrepeatable, unmistakeable work. This song is that moment for CCR.
The entire Cosmos Factory album is awesome and Ramble Tamble the best. I knew this was a great album when it came out and still it. A timeless piece of artistry. I saw John Fogerty one morning on NBC's Today Show. He was playing outdoors at Rockefeller Ctr. Katie Couric talks with him then while he's standing there she starts doing the weather. Forgerty turns and walks away like "WTF is this?" Couric's a pompous ass, too full of herself. She's a toad. Forgerty's a legend.
Could it be the power of YouTube?? It's simply awesome that John has been adding this to his live set when touring - doesn't get any better than this!!
The Black Keys are simply awesome for this generation but nothing tops CCR. Then again another band will come out and the Black Keys will be legend too.
When we wake up to the truth of life, inspired music like this will emerge and flourish again. Search "Truth Contest" in Google and click the 1st result, then open The Present and read what it says to learn the truth.
......My Favorite CCR tune .. and that says HUGE as .. did they have a bad song? .. One may think "Hey Tonight" But even that song - as simple as it is , is a story in itself! "Gonna take ya to the rafters?" Love Cosmo and Stu and John... Had an album of them in Germany where John pulls a harp (harmonica to communists) and goes insane on "Keep ON Chooglin'" ... .. A harp from his pocket .. no "harp holder here. This type of Americana is what CCR was all about.I thought they were a holy rollers!
for some reason i feel that the riff at around 2:00 (the arpeggio over C) is a signature riff of led zeppelin, but i dont doubt it sounds great along with the twangy ccr riffs
true to the lyrics" Down The Road I Go" the remarkable guitar riff takes off and travels up and down winding roads then guns it up a mountaintop only to barrel back down the other side.
I was in my early teens when this song came out. They were my favorite group back then. still sounds as good as ever. you just don't here stuff like this today. This song has to be played on a high watt system with emphasis on the bass, It really brings that Guitar out. Freakin awesome!!!!!
it actually took me some time to pick up the ending where John Fogerty mumbles ramble tamble 3 times, what great drumming by cosmo on his tiny 4 piece kit
Never heard this song 'til now and it's a little ripper from The CCR Boys! This band of brothers were waaaaay ahead of their time. John Fog is a genius.
hey man ... even CCR's " Run Through the Jungle " was banned from the airwaves at one time for being too politically controversial ... even now , some stations have a problem with " Born on the "Bayou " do to the mis-information on the word " hoodoo " which is of course a raccoon ... so 41 years later these guys are still being censored !!! and yeah, it's okay to say " FAR OUT " man !!
Prophetic. It was the Democrat party all the time, not the Republicans, that had it in
for us. So desperate to 'control' us ( Add Socialists, Communists and anything 'new age' to the Democrat Party ) . Clown Obama is just the tip of a huge controlling iceberg.
@Cainefan I'm not saying i have a problem with John Fogerty, i'm just passing information on which was said by the other band members through lot's of reading. This was especially prevelent with his brother Tom. He was supposedly a real tough guy to work with, i agree maybe he knew something the rest didn't know. Regardless, this band was one of the best, hardly a bad song on any album! Yes you are right he was FREAKING AWESOME, but so were Stu Cooke, Doug Clifford and Tom Fogerty.
@davidson2004fatboy John wasn't and isn't the problem. Saul Zaentz was the biggest problem, because he made John' s life real difficult for example(Old man down the road-Run through the jungle thing). Other members didn't help John back then, they just wanted money.
On top Tom said to John(just before he died) that Saul was his best friend. So I understand very well that John did not want to be friends with those guys anymore
@davidson2004fatboy But it was John that wrote the songs.you take him out and no CCR.Which has been proven by their careers since.John has gone on to write many more hits and Stu and Doug are in a cover band doing CCR songs.....
@davidson2004fatboy without John there were no great hits and incredible songs , remember Pendulum where Cook and Clifford had their choise and what happened ? We all know
oh down the road america goes going going gone it wont be long, that dream you had thats gone too. i'm glad i was a teen child in the 60's, lived at least most of my dream.... america is decaying from with in, like all the great empires did.. ramble tamble
Let me just say, my father has some great vinyls laying around his apartment. He tried bringing me up on these classics, but my stubborn modern youth lifestyle kept me listening to today's metal. This song is one of the most fantastic I've ever heard, and as a musician I can say that with confidence. My ears just keep opening to more and more great oldies. But CCR is topping out on my favorite playlists. Great song!
CREEDENCE GENIOSSSSS
Skynyrd, ACDC, CCR are my fav bands... im 17. Theres still hope for good music to survive!

CCR I LOVE YOU
blueridger28 10 months ago
hey man ... even CCR's " Run Through the Jungle " was banned from the airwaves at one time for being too politically controversial ... even now , some stations have a problem with " Born on the "Bayou " do to the mis-information on the word " hoodoo " which is of course a raccoon ... so 41 years later these guys are still being censored !!! and yeah, it's okay to say " FAR OUT " man !!

Prophetic. It was the Democrat party all the time, not the Republicans, that had it in
for us. So desperate to 'control' us ( Add Socialists, Communists and anything 'new age' to the Democrat Party ) . Clown Obama is just the tip of a huge controlling iceberg.

Truly one of THE greatest bands of all time, here John was a real pain in the ASS to work with. His way or the highway atitude. R.I.P. TOM FOGERTY
davidson2004fatboy 10 months ago 2
@davidson2004fatboy Debatable. What isn't debatable is that 'his way' was freakin' awesome!
Cainefan 9 months ago
@Cainefan I'm not saying i have a problem with John Fogerty, i'm just passing information on which was said by the other band members through lot's of reading. This was especially prevelent with his brother Tom. He was supposedly a real tough guy to work with, i agree maybe he knew something the rest didn't know. Regardless, this band was one of the best, hardly a bad song on any album! Yes you are right he was FREAKING AWESOME, but so were Stu Cooke, Doug Clifford and Tom Fogerty.

@davidson2004fatboy are you telling us different people have different personalities anf we should be aware?
Syzygy60 9 months ago
@davidson2004fatboy John wasn't and isn't the problem. Saul Zaentz was the biggest problem, because he made John' s life real difficult for example(Old man down the road-Run through the jungle thing). Other members didn't help John back then, they just wanted money.
On top Tom said to John(just before he died) that Saul was his best friend. So I understand very well that John did not want to be friends with those guys anymore
John you are the real man!
JokerCCR 6 months ago
@davidson2004fatboy But it was John that wrote the songs.you take him out and no CCR.Which has been proven by their careers since.John has gone on to write many more hits and Stu and Doug are in a cover band doing CCR songs.....

@davidson2004fatboy without John there were no great hits and incredible songs , remember Pendulum where Cook and Clifford had their choise and what happened ? We all know

christohop 11 months ago
Let me just say, my father has some great vinyls laying around his apartment. He tried bringing me up on these classics, but my stubborn modern youth lifestyle kept me listening to today's metal. This song is one of the most fantastic I've ever heard, and as a musician I can say that with confidence. My ears just keep opening to more and more great oldies. But CCR is topping out on my favorite playlists. Great song!

CREEDENCE GENIOSSSSS
