  • Just ordered this burner, planning to make a portable wind shield-lightweight for hiking. A test was made of distance from trangia top to pot cooking surface and the best was 38mm,1-1/2" for speed of boil.

  • @iUbookz Burn on....enjoy it.

  • When I bought my Trangia it came with three aluminum sheets that act as a stand and wind proofer.

  • @thebudgetgamer Much better than the stand in my video....I never use that one that came with mine.

  • That is exactly the system I use

  • @novascotiansurvival A Classic bit of kit.

  • "Tah-tah, back" ... So ... Recently took delivery of the Swiss Ranger Volcano Stove and am expecting delivery of the standard sized Trangia burner, in a day, or two ... Question: Will the Trangia fit inside the Swiss Ranger Stove ? Will they work together, as a system ? ... I already own a Vargo Triad but it is a bit dinky and don't hold much fuel so, I was hoping the Trangia might be better. Curious to see if the Trangia comes with the simmer ring and/or the crown wind-screen, standrd

  • @phrankus2009 I think it would be tough to get it in there.

  • @shugemery Drats! ... I shoulda ordered the Trangia Mini ... This is how we get collections of stoves.

So ... Now I still want a Trangia Mini *and* and Emberlit Titanium (better than the Vargo Hex ... check it ! ). ... and ... I am totally sure that the Standard Size Trangia *will* work great, with the Emberlit (given proper elevation ... proper proximity to the pot).

  • @phrankus2009 Yes, the standard Trangia burner fits into the Volcano stove:

    /watch?v=pwPb-oOu1jc ... or ... /watch?v=nL34-EdCJGc

    And here is a modification:

    /watch?v=mm9jg4aiiMw

However, you probably can't use the simmer option.

  • @simonettavespucci Well ... The last vid you listed (the mod vid) has made me realize something and inspired me to make a mod of my own ... (1) If I ditch the flask, I will be able to store the Trangia burner inside the chimney, during transport ... and ... (2) Without the flask, I can also sore an empty "soup" (type) can (inverted) and use the bottom of the empty soup can as an elevated platform for sterno or ESBIT cubes, etc., without performing any "surgery".

  • Dude! You rock.

  • @RBNightlinger You rock for sayin' so....

  • enjoyed this one. tnx :)

  • @blanketmanNOR I'm kinda late,,,but Thankee

  • good review, but what kind of down hat were you wearing? or was that a down filled hat?

  • @chitown1966 It is from BlackRockGeardotcom. I just love mine.

  • @chitown1966 Thanks and great job with your videos.

  • you sir are a genius. i salute you!

  • @xunnad Saluting back atcha....

  • where'd you buy this stove?

  • @keikepono111 Goggle it as there are many places. Amazon etc. I got mine thru REI online.

  • mot or pug ,, new t-shirt!

  • I have no idea why...but I said "Tata" to you back, when you said it to me, because I am in the future....and you there, are not. I liked this video, from here in the future.

  • @TheCaptainSlappy Can't say Tata enough.... civility supreme!

  • What did you use as a primer?

  • @sakofree I used HEET.

  • Hahaha!!! Why don't you have more hits?!?

  • @aceattack52 Backpacking .... flying under the YT radar! Thanks

  • I love the monocle mate LOL

  • Thanks for the vid.i own a few trangias and you really should use that winter attachment i see in that videoreply at least when its REALLY cold you get the fuel warm and you get your brew faster :)

  • I have noticed that the Trangia will slowly leak fuel over time if stored with fuel. I tend to carry my fuel in a separate container for this reason. Also, I find it will leak fuel if I don't really screw the lid on tight and then it's very hard to open. I may just have a lemon Trangia though.

  • i was wandering not how much alcohol you put in the stove, but how much you drank for this video?

  • @assym2006

It is a solid and tough stove!

Not used the 27 system but I think you cannot go wrong with it.

I have just used the stove and think it is a workhorse.

  • That was a good video.

  • I like the Trangia because you store fuel in it without worrying about it leaking, as Curtice King so memorably demonstrated to us. For an overnighter, you'd just have to fill the Trangia and not have to carry any extra fuel or fuel bottle.

  • Too funny! I have the Trangia, but I got it along with the Clikstand which is a bit heavy but extremely sturdy - you'd really have to work to knock it over. Good stove!

  • @earlymusicus

    Agreed!!!! Good stove ...heirloom quality.

  • @earlymusicus

"I know you're wondering how much alcohol I put in my stove".....LOL not as much alcohol as I've put in myself. Funny Vid. Entertaining and interesting.

  • This was one of the most entertaining videos I have ever seen. And I don't even think it was meant to be like that.

  • @CHICKSTER118 Thankee ..... I do try and make the vids a wee bit entertaining ..... hopefully!

  • you know what? i found this long ago but over all the alchol stoves are aint a good that idea..

  • @maxinpains

They are not for everybody ...... I guess not you anyhow.

    I still like 'em.

  • But that doesn't look like tin foil...

  • Sorry ..... it is a windscreen that comes with the click-stand support. Like aluminum flashing. The "crown' looking thing comes with the Trangia ...but I will never use it.

I do use tin-foil with mine.

  • @icychap

    lol!!!!

  • Dude, you're hilarious. Great video production value too. This was one of the more entertaining stove-related videos I've ever watched.

I have the Trangia Spirit and can vouch for its usefulness even in -15F (experienced this past December on Mt. Marcy in Adirondacks NY).

What do you use for a wind screen?

  • Can't the stove and stove stand be stored in the Snowpeak mug/pot/mot/pig?

  • It can and it shall go in the mot/pug

  • Ya had meh goin ther Curtice, me mate. If ya can't tell, Oym speakin' in me best aussie accent in yor onah. foiv big bleedin' stahz for ya. Bullocks! Oy likes it when ya sez that.

  • Curtice passes on a hearty "Oy" to you for that. Fair Dinkum Mate.

Terrific comment and tricky spelling what!

  • Do you like the Trangia or the Mini atomic more.?

  • I gotta go with the Mini-Atomic.....

  • ya sold me on this stove Shugyg, just bought one today

  • Hope you are happy and have some backwoods fun with it!

  • Hey Shuggy !!!!

    Love your stuff

  • if you put a little bit of wiking in the stove you will be abole to light it no mater how cold it is

  • I got the Trangia winter kit ... priming pan with a bit of wick on the bottom .... works real good. Thanks

  • I'd call it a mot, pug might get confusing w/ the dog and all ;)

    Thanks for the vid shug!

  • I like mot ...... for the mutt.

  • Nice video, great introduction. Love the Trangia, use it by myself since a few years (2? 3 maybe).

Nice weather, in Germany it is raining the most of the time, enjoy the snow.

    best regards

    Kuma

  • Danke .... It is one of my new favorite stoves. Love the screw on lid!

    Out to the snow now.

  • No...the other nice hat, it looks like down.

    thanks!!

  • BlackRock Gear ...... $50. Warmest hat I have!!!!

  • Hey Shug great vid and zipline effect!

Where did you get that nice hat?

  • It is a PossumDown Beanie from New Zealand .... really soft and warm.

Google possumdown and you will find one.

  • Wow, looks ice cold out there Shug! Glad to be watching inside my warm house... Your neighbors must think you are insane! haha

  • It is a crazy block we line in!!!!

    all-righty then ..... back to the c-c-c-old.

  • Trangia recommends a special heater for temperatures below freezing. I've seen people use a candle under their stoves in such instances. Homemade windscreens have a tendency to choke air intake because the hole sizes don't match the area of the flame's combustion surface.

  • Yeah ... the winter attachment. Got one coming. Whooooooooo

  • Haven't seen it, so looking forward to a video on it! Whooooo buddy!

  • I thought that a chemical hand warmer is what is generally used for that. With the metal disc that you click.

  • We shall see ..... there seems to be a pad in there for the priming alk.

  • This is the coldest temperature that I have seen water boil this December.

  • Colder coming soon ........

  • worse than last year?

  • -3º Monday ... -10º Tuesday ... not as bad yet!

  • Awesome man, got me some lolz this morning when i wokeup

  • Great and good .... that is my aim a bit!

  • Great work!

What was your time to boil?

  • Did not keep to close a tab on time but 15 minutes plus for sure........

  • Good deal, thanks for letting me know.

  • Hello Curtis, nice to meet you. My name is Omatsu and I'm a Japanese.

I like your test but please do not say " avoid work"! And we aren't avoiding work but rather watch you so that this will be your WORK!

Anyway please give my best regard to Shug and tell him to keep posting fun video. Oh, please don't forget to drain extra alcohol from trangia because it may crack after several days! Cheers!

  • Arigato! Honto ne......

good tip on draining fuel. Off to do that now.

    Mata ne.

    Curtice

  • You da man Curtice ... dang 2 degrees so some serious devotion to the film arts! ;-)

    Great intro pal ...

  • Curtice likes cold.

  • Clever intro... :)

  • Fun too ......

  • Great intro on your video......love the trangia.

  • Glad you caught it!

  • Yup...there's no doubt! The alcy has to be in the pocket, along with the stove :o) Your lookin' good shug. A little Minnesota Wild...hehe! Great vid as always buddy :o)

  • You are right on that .... needed to see the cold-alky effect. Normally, I always keep alk in the pocket and really never have used it that cold. Really slower but do-able .... for a brew or quick boil.

    Thanks .... have gotten shaggy.

  • Shaggy shug...hehe! Me too :o) Much warmer on the ol' face skin :o)

  • that Gordon Ramsey fellow says Bollicks too....

    Great stuff Shug...thnx

  • Oh Ross from Missouri

    OUT

I think sector seven is not all clear, rumor of someone playing with fire outside in the cold.

  • Your sat cam is operational, eh?

  • Looks as if your having a cuppa tea. I'm sure you saw Tinny's video of baking muffins in the plastic produce bag. I just finished baking my own muffins on top of my MBD Duo just like the one you have and must say you will have to give it a try. I didn't use the DBC pot but my .8 liter REI teapot, with a one inch aluminum riser to keep it off the bottom. I used to drink beer on Friday nights with the guys, now I bake muffins with my three year old. I think life is getting better by the day.

  • Have fun baking .... boiling water and teaching that 3 year old the right and good path .... or tail!

    all secure,

    Shug

  • Woohoo, a new Shug video! Who else would be outside on a 2 degree Minnesota night doing a stove review? We luv ya for it though Shug.

  • My joy, my fun. Glad some others share it.

  • bollocks!

  • I love that word although it is a bit unsavory!

  • ta ta

  • Ta da ..... thankee.

  • Good vid ....LOL I have that one and use the reverse of me trail stove I use it in the winter its nice you can already pre fill the trangia and put the cap on . ;-)

  • I like the Trang ... like it a lot!

  • OK shug. Ta ta back.

  • Thanks ......
