  • how do executioners deal with remorse?

  • james corden ohhh my goawwwwwwwd

  • If this is a true representation of what happened i have to ask what kind of person runs a man to the gallows, those were his final moments on earth, that wasn't anything to do with being human. Just imagine if that was you in that cell snd you were innocent like some who were hanged were, would you have liked to be ran to the gallows in 7.5 seconds....

  • @TheBusa123 Its about limiting suffering. Hanging, unlike the act of circus that is death by lethal injection, is - if done well - both quick AND clean.

  • @TheBusa123 Pierrepoint didn't force him to run, he wanted to run.

  • This was the judicial system at its finest, Hanging scum,, BRING BACK HANGING !

  • Albert Peirrepoint hanged two women in Britain as executioner. This one, Dorothea Waddingham, in 1936 he only assisted his uncle Tom Pierrepoint. Ruth Ellis, the last female to be hanged in Britain, in 1955 was hanged by Albert Pierrepoint but the movie does not cover the other woman he hanged, the year before Ellis, the Greek Cypriot Styllou Pantopiou Christofi.

  • Christ I cant believe this part hasnt been flagged! Ive seen far less flagged by prudes or zealots on here!

  • According to many surveys 1 in 4 British people would support the re-introduction of the death penalty, which was only FULLY suspend in 1998. Obviously not a return to execution for people who stole Bread.

But many support hanging for 'pre-meditated murder' and terrorism or preparing to commit act of terror. So for example a man who comes home drunk and accidentally beats his wife who falls down the stairs and dies is not executed. Providing he seeks 'penance', to speak.

    thought id share that.

  • no disrespect to the usa, but if you have to execute people it should be like this. quick.

  • @E2theSamps

At least rendered unconscious? That's simply untrue: When the neck is broken, the victims dies immediately, point blank.

  • Comment removed

  • @E2theSamps ..no, brain death is instant yes, but the body tends to take a few minutes or more to shut down.

  • @ potentiallydevisive

Actually you can trace Genealogy back to Britain, Italy, Germany etc..

    Essentially Americans came from Britain.

  • @ potentiallydevisive

You...Do realize Americans came from England right, so now to further this, you're saying British people are also a stain etc..And then even further down the line...basically you're claiming all of Humanity is a stain. Sorry buddy, your argument holds no water.

  • @Llama212ify No you didn't. British people may have moved there, but YOU, are NOT us. YOU are domesticated apes who flood to the nearest shiny big sign, WE have class and history.

  • @ Percivilemonty

Wait...I do recall uh...Hmm....AMERICANS/America helping Haiti? Do you recall that as well? Ignorance is astounding on Youtube.

  • @ Joshuadrooney

I really hope you aren't talking about America/Americans. If you were you would be sorely mistaken.

  • I'll talk about your shitty, nasty stain on earth you slurry the term "country" to describe...you should know that only humans can live in countries, you animals should be in a zoo, americans are not human, they're not even apes, apes are much more developed, you're like herpes; all of a sudden you appear and won't just die out! Why wont you just die out?!

  • it was actually syd dernley who assisted albert with the 7.5 second hanging and it happened after the war and not before it.

  • i never knew that James Corden was in this!!! he plays the part really well though

  • i dont see why but this s more humane than electric chair, just because it akes 13 seconds as opposed to 30 seconds, but i am strongly against the death penalty

  • Totally agree Lestatler, I have seen this film at the cinema and found it very moving and thought provoking - I noticed everyone was very quiet and thoughtful as the left the cinema.

No need to apologise for your fellow countrymen, we have ignorant idiots this side of the Atlantic as well.

  • I was going to limit my remarks to what a fantastic work this film is and how well it depicts the death penalty everywhere [to pro and con alike].

Then I saw the larger thread below.

My apologies to our UK friends for the ignorant spew from some of my fellow US citizens. It's truly shocking and scary as hell.

  • You're too retarded for words, you'd better pray that I never find out where you live, because you'll find my Alsations jaws clamped around your throat pretty quickly.

  • LOL! Yeah. I'm frightened by that...in a sleepy, scratching my butt while yawning kinda way. Be sure to bring a lunch and I might give you time to rest and eat it after I'm done kicking your ass.

  • You're just an ignorant loud mouth, I consider myself to be above your relatively low level of sanity. Britain isn't perfect, but neither is America. We happen to be your one and only ally in the entire world, if you continue to spout shite about us we might just decide to leave you to fend for yourselves and join our true friends in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, if we do, post back the Harrier Jump Jets within 6 weeks.

  • Of course you consider yourself above that. You're British! You consider yourself above everything, just like all British people! You're all just too good for words! For 700 years you've been looking down your nose at the rest of the world. Pretty hard to look down on people when you have to face up the whole time. BTW, the Harrier is an ineffective piece of shit! BTW, thanks for the industrial revolution and the rum trade which started slavery in the Americas in the first place! Good job!!

  • Good God, you're so far up your own ass it's unbelievable, I don't consider myself above everyone else. You suffer from extreme xenophobia, I don't hate Americans as a people or any other nationality, just individual bigots like you.

  • Well, then let me explain something to you. The word "bigot" means someone who is intolerant of any viewpoint other than their own! For you to attack me and call me a bigot simply because my views are different from yours (or at least you have convinced yourself) is in itself BIGOTRY!!

  • You have a 'point of view' which is intolerant and bigoted, tolerance of intolerance is what led to the rise of Adolf Hitler, Vladimir Lenin and any other nasty bastard you care to mention.

  • As a born and bred Irishman, I certainly do not hate Britain or the British, nor does anyone else I know, and it would be silly for the Scotish to hate the British, since they are also British. But I'll tell you something, I have been around the world travelling, and one thing I heard consistantly from locals in South America, Southeast Asia etc was how the United States had ruined their lives - especially South America. You are the most hated nation on earth, and with good reason.

  • @Percivilemonty Go fuck yourself buddy. You have any idea how many millions of Irish died because the potato famine? You know how many Irish lived because they came to the United States during that time. If Ireland, god forbid, were ever to be attacked we the United States would be the first to help Erin. You owe yourself an apology. I don't want it. I care more about the steam off my piss than your apologies. Bastard.

  • @molanlabexm15 We should have finished the lot of them off, fuck the Irish, they are animals on the same level as you americans.

  • @potentiallydevisive Yeah you should have. Too bad YOU can't since you let YOUR government take away your firearms. Have a nice day subject.

  • @molanlabexm15 nra(.)org(.)uk - National Rifle Association of the UK. I've had a great day, 5 of you were shot in Buffalo!

  • @potentiallydevisive When a murderer breaks into your home with gun you will die. When a murderer breaks into my home with a gun he will die because i own an Ar 15.You are one of millions of unarmed ruled subjects and I am one of millions of armed citizens who's will forces our representatives to be subject to our will. This true. This is irrefutable. Now i know you know because i just told you.The ilk of you and your like is the reason your liberty has succumbed to the charlatans in parliament.FU

  • @molanlabexm15 When a murderer breaks into my home, he will find out that we can in fact, own guns, and will discover what .303 British will do to his face. Just like every one of you vile creatures, you're as ignorant as pigshit! We don't need to be armed, we are not stupid enough to have to use them for point making, You need guns in such massive numbers because collectively you rate below Neanderthal levels of communication and society.

  • @potentiallydevisive

    Nice, Enfield?

  • @molanlabexm15 funny how you then talk about our liberty, when it is in fact YOU who lives under the PATRIOT ACT, YOU who has a President who could declare a state of emergency and become a dictator, YOU who has to wait 5 years between elections and YOU who currently has a president most people don't even think is American. Just like the rest of Europe, Britain is one of the most free nations on earth. Enjoy FEMA when the dollar completely collapses, I won't be making any donations!

  • @potentiallydevisive Ello guvna!

  • Which is why you bought so many of them? It's not just is who look down on you, the whole of the European continent does; how could such an uncivilised, couth, backwards and messed up nation have ever come from Europe?

  • You don't even know me or where I stand! I was replying to an attack on me made by another poster who happened to be British and blocked himself and now you come here and verbally threaten me??? Yeah! You're REALLY above me!!! Quite sane, quite non-retarded you complete idiot!! Take your threat and multiply it you non-contributing ZERO!!

  • Here's another brutal truth for you, your country is so down the pan, every nation has stopped using the dollar for oil trading, and another thing, you did not "save" anyones ass, we did that for ourselves, but sure as hell you needed us for the 2 Iraq wars you kindly dragged us into. We in the UK await the next 9/11, so we can celebrate just like we did the first time.

  • We've just been following your example for the last 300 years! No one put a gun to your head and told you to join us. As I recall you volunteered! And we DID save your ass! You'd have lost WWII if we didn't ride in like the cavalry! We in the U.S. await Europe's inevitable conversion to Islam so we can say "We told you so!". Good luck Muhammed! Good luck dipshit!

  • Sadly, you're wrong yet again. The Battle of Britain is universally known as being the battle which prevented the country from being invaded, we won, and we fought on our own. We saved ourself, and you only came in when the nips bombed your boats. You can think about that when you're in your FEMA campbed and your country is bankrupt - 5 states down, there's not much time left! Maybe a mexican family will take your house. Good luck Jose!

  • WWII was a JOINT EFFORT between the three allies, the British Empire, the United States and the Soviet Union, no two of the allies could possibly have won the war. We had a navy strong enough to prevent a German invasion, but we didn't have an army strong enough to stage the landing on mainland Europe. You should be thanking the Russians, because without them the US and the UK would be facing the whole of the German Army.

  • @I12BPhil America joined the war because it became obvious, even to them, that in time Hitler would have the capability of hitting the US mainland from western France. There were in fact three different German projects under way to produce a vehicle which could bomb New York and show the inhabitants just what it was like to be in a real war. Fortunately, the US successfully participated in D Day solely to prevent this happening under the pretence of liberating Europe.

  • The actress in the scene was all wrong.

Dorethea Waddingham had a strong resembelence to actress Dawn French (the Vicar of Dibley) and I do not know why that producer Rebecca Eaton did not

take that into account when casting this and several other parts in this movie.

  • I suggest that you read his autobiography 'Executioner ' its a real eye opener . He knew that someone had to do the job , and he knew that he was the guy who could do the job more swiftly and efficiently than anyone else in the business . He was a professional , its as simple as that .

  • @skylarkman2000 true mate, its an odd profession to take pride in, but if they had to die then do it quickly, i mean how often do you hear in the USA of someone taking 10 minutes to die on the electric chair etc. it was a time when people took what they did seriously, or rather took pride in it, even working in a sweet shop like his wife.

  • Shut the fuck up you twit! It was because he wanted the condemned to be treated with respect, you uncouth fuck! Not because of some fantasy that's in YOUR head!

  • What was pierrepoint's average?

  • Between 11-13 seconds

  • Why did they time it?

  • It was intended to be a quick death with as little stress as possible, both for the condemned and those involved.
