@weirdscene2 It's a bit of hammering on with his left hand and strumming with his right. He slaps a harmonic with his right hand up 12 frets above wherever his left hand is fretting at the time. It's just how trace plays, kind of percussive.

@weirdscene2 the little bouncy part right before the harmonic is done by using your strumming hand as a hammer while hammering on an Em chord on the offbeats with your left hand then to get the harmonic you slap the strings on the 12th fret very quickly and precisely. Takes work but its worth it

No matter how much they diss the BSB, I think somewhere deep down many, many, many people like them... they just don't say it out loud because of the misconception floating around that they're "too 90's" & a "boyband" or apparently, are "gay". Its on the 14th fret, to hit the octave. Normally, he would hit the 12th fret, but because his capo is on the 2nd fret, he hits the 14th. :)

I think everyone can agree that The Backstreet Boys suck, but when that song came out I had to admit it was good. The guitar, the melody, etc.

Keep in mind that behind each pop group there are often legitimately talented songwriters, so it's pretty ignorant to dismiss something as being garbage when you're only seeing it from one angle.
