  • @petatap WOW! finally some one who understands that Stuttgart-Siegfried isn't rubbish! And, yes Valencia was aweful, too bad that Salminen had to be there...

  • That is complete and total rubbish! Both, stage production and music!! William

  • 9 nymphs ??????, for me it,s horrible

  • sorry, why not and Alberich says: One of many loves me. Three are not many and the Rhine is long.

  • I respect your opinion and to the stage director, 3 or 9 nymphs dont alter the story, but I,m not agree with it

  • I respect your opinion also. I saw probably 12 different productions and 4 on dvd. This one is beside the Chereau/Boulez version the most intellegent and closest to the libretto, I saw. I do not agree to the very popular versions which look like Cirque Du Soleil productions with music by Richard Wagner (Valencia, LA, AIX).

  • I totally agree with you. I also would strongly recommend the Stuttgart-"Siegfried" (Jossi Wieler). On my "Black List" there is the Copenhagen-Ring and "La fura dels Baus" (Valencia).

  • The current Bayreuth production has more than three Rheintöchter and they are used very effectively to tease Alberich. They also use projections of others above to suggest the depths of the Rhine itself.

  • Le Ring des Nibelungen c'est magnifique et un de les melleiur composisones de le monde!

  • I agree, but very often the RING gets presented like a CIRQUE DU SOLEIL production (Valencia, LA, AIX) with music by Richard Wagner. There is also a story behind, which is very actual and has to be told. Chereau did it brilliant and I think Michael Schulz also.

    BEURK!!!!!!!

  • I am really my French is not existing, but I think to judge the singing on a unmixed trailer is not fair. The Brünhilde is for instance probably one of the best ones which is existing and sings the part now in big houses. Loge and Siegmund is very good, like Sieglinde. To judge the the production without understanding the German or being prepared to understand the dramaturgic concept is impossible.

    Buy the blu-ray box.

  • Hello again. I just ordered "Rhinegold" and "Valkyrie" from Amazon. To me, the first act of "Rhinegold" is pivotal. What I mean is, when the sun hits the Rhinegold, the music should affect us in the same way the Rhinemadiens react to the beautiful light created when the sun hits the Rhinegold. You know, dancing around, darting about the reef. Also, I look forward to seeing the giants. And, as Loge is my favorite character in all the Ring, I am eager to see him, too. Thanks.

  • Did you look at Rhinegold and Valkurie?

  • Continued.

    Dear flattilre:

An another point is the audience, which is getting finally younger here. To interest younger people is not possible with a Star Wars version of the RING, which is very difficult over 15 hours. The reactions to the Weimar Ring are hate and entusiasm, nothing between. Which is good. You and I would not write to each other about another version of the Met, Chicago or LA RING. Which is also good.

    Best

  • Hello. As for non-traditional Rings, sometimes I feel that the primary purpose is to denigrate and insult Wagner's music, as well as Western Civilization in general. For example, at the beginning of Act III of "Valkyrie," the Stuttgart version shows the slain warriors going down a conveyor belt, while being mocked by the Valkyries. Why would Wotan want these guys in Valhalla? By the way, I don't have a copy of the Weimar Ring. Is it available on DVD? Thanks.

  • Hi, I agree with you and this is specially the case when the stage directors are not able to read the music or do not understand and/or cannot speak German. Wagner's German is also not easy for a German native, but the meaning very modern. I love the line, when Fasolt says to Wotan in Rheingold 2nd scene: What you are you are only by contracts. The next 12 hours most of the main characters break contracts, betray each other or kill each other.

    A mirror of our time.

    Will continue

  • Hi, the RING is available on blu-ray and dvd. The sound on the blu-ray is ofcourse much better, because it is a uncompressed 5.1, which is not possible on a dvd and no way on cd. TOWER, NAXOS, HB Direct, JPC and Amazon, they all have the cycle.

    Forgot to tell you

  • I jiust checked Amazon, and, indeed, there is a new Ring I had not seen. It is referred to as the St. Clair Ring Cycle. Is this yours? Thanks.

  • yes, st.clair is the conductor. he is american and now the musical director in berlin at the komische oper.

  • Whoever is responsible for this production is mighty lucky that Wagner ain't around.

  • I am responsible and I am proud of this production. I prefer stagings where the brain of the audience is asked. It is ofcourse easier to see one of the popular Cirque du Soleil interpretation of the RING, only for the eyes and sometimes for the ears. I would not be worried if Wagner would be still around, specially we would be neighbours. He lived in his Munich time just around the corner I live.

A tip: Read the libretto word by word and the directions than you understand.

  • Wow, amazing to hear from you. Guess I'm a bit of a traditionalist. However, the libretto clearly states (I believe) that Siegfried pulls Notung from the tree, but your production has Sieglinde accomplishing the feat. This improvisation seems to totally emasculate Siegfried. Also, why did you give the Valkyries wings? Would you ever consider doing a "traditional" staging? Great and amazing to hear from you.

  • It is a pleasure. The for Sigmund and Sieglinde unvisible Wotan is holding Notung, because Wotan puts the sword in the tree in first place. Sieglinde only helps Siegmund. Our Valkuries have no wings. In Europe it is very difficult to do a traditional RING. Also directors from the US and Canada work totally different here than in their home countries.

    RM

  • Can you please tell us why it is difficult to do a traditional Ring in Europe? Why would that be? Is there some kind of hatred towards Wagner's vision?

  • Wieland Wagner started in the 60's with a RING as the first one away from the classical sets and knight costumes. Chereau(Bayreuth) and Friedrich(London) did in the late 70's the next step:The RING is a political story and about a society and not only a violant family saga, which is difficult to tell in styropor sets. Wagner started as a quite radical socialist and I have my doubts, if he would have the same antisemitic opinion in our days. No, there is no hatred. Will continue.
