In the novel he never gets shot my Lewellen. Another truck of mexican gangsters drive up during the night and get into a mean gun fight and Chigurh takes a blast from a shotgun and still manages to kill them all.
Yeah, this is Javier - the expressions alone speak volumes.
I recomend watching MARE DENTRO after or before this. Hard to believe but playing a elderly quadrophlegic, with such strength and expression. One of the best actors of our times ...
... yeah, I could see him as a potential Joker in the follow-ups to Dark Knight!
Chigurgh is an allegory on the senselessness of life and death, or atleast of that area and period where drug smuggling spawned so much senseless violence.
i love the part, which you can't see in this, where you don't see him kill the girl, but you see him coming out on the porch and he checks the bottom of his shoes for blood lol. badass. right following the part at 1:20
I have to differ from the previous posters and say that I think the mating of the video montage of the silent, icy cold psychopath with the beautiful, emotionally expressive singing of that siren (whomever she she may be) strikes me as pretty cool. What a contrast of sight and sound.
Entire thing ruined by some stupid boy-music running throughout. Yet another failure of a generation-Y carbon-waste attempting to understand and/or interpret a work of art.
Dude, you NAILED it. The second this vid started playing I was thinking the same thing. What is up with this GARBAGE music? The two don't fit in the least.
What sucks is that Moss gets killed so abruptly and undramatically, when you expect a climactic showdown between he and Chigurh.
In the "Hotel Showdown", Moss, the Vietnam veteran, proves to be a serious challenge for Chigurh. It makes you wonder who would have won if it came down to the gunfight everyone expected.
This movie has so many subtleties, I can't begin to go over them.
Bottom line - I always viewed Fargo as the best Cohen Bros movie. Now I'm not so sure...
the great thing about McCarthy is he never describes or writes about a characters inner thoughts or emotions just describes their actions so is left up to us to find their motives and reasons. that is why he is such a great writer. really enjoyed reading everyones input into Sugar's motives. check out the sock puppet version of the coin toss scene its hilarious.
And can I say that the first movie I ever saw Javier Bardem in was The Sea Inside? Compare his character in that movie to this movie. I didn't believe they were played by the same man at first. Javier Bardem is goooood!
I really enjoyed this video. Yeah, people are saying that including music "ruins the point" of Chigurh, but I don't think so. Music inspires emotion without the need of dialogue. This is especially great for people who haven't seen the film yet. It says, "Be afraid," while not wearing the scenes out. Great job!
Can someone tell me why anton missed the bird at 0:41? I know it has some importance in the film, and I dont think he did it for amusement. Is he selective of targets for death or what?
Well man it hasnt got rlly something important. Remember hes a killer. A hitman and he doesnt care who he has to kill to get to wat he needs done. He shot at the bird most likely he was bored and thought of shooting something. But its like saying why did he kill the man with bolt captive pistol. Because he needed a clean car. Hes a killer its what he does. Hope this helps =/
Besides being a hitman he's a psycho too. Most professional hitmen try to stick to killing their target not loads of innocent people along the way. Unessecary kills is not the way of a hitman unless they want to end up in prison on suspiecion of tons of other murders, and none carry some coin to ask people to make a call.
No, Chigurh killed a lot of people that had absolutely nothing to do with his mission and target. A psycho hitman, unlike Carson Wells which was the ordinary type.
He wasn't the ordinary hitman type that kills for money.Leaving a trail of bodies behind oneself is asking to be caught by the police,in the real world.Who he kills along the way can also sometimes be decided be a coin flip.
No the real reason why he is psycho is because he killed Carla Jean. She never saw him,and posed no threat to him.She hadn't the money and had nothing to do with the whole thing. He killed her to keep a promise to Llewelyn, who was already dead and couldn't suffer from it.
There was absolutely no need for Chigurh to kill Carla Jean.He got to keep the money, had killed his employer and Carson Wells and his mission was a success.Since Llewelyn was dead anyway his threat to him regarding his wife was nullified and pointless.
Carson Wells was hired because the man who hired Chigurh realized he left too many bodies and wasn't the discreet type they needed. He realized he has hired a "loose gun" and therefore wants Carson to kill him and clean up the mess in his wake.
Another good observation, but i seriously thought he went after Carla Jean just to make sure all connections were gone(most likely he'd kill the sheriff if he had the chance and only had to). But i also don't believe he's psycho cause he left the man who saw him kill his employer alive though it's left ambiguous I believe he left him alive any how.
Chiggurh killed Carla Jean because(i think i missed it) of a conversation between Llewyllen and Anton or because of the coin. Maybe of a metaphor?
thanks i knew there was a reason why he killed her. Well this all comes to make sense, just like ethan cohen said. "The characters may be real but they are also symbolic"
ya that was sad. it bummed me out Luellen Moss died n i'm just assume his wife Carla-Jean died from Chigurh's hands cuz he said he was gonna do it. although it was kinda funny he wound up killing his employer (Stephen Root). there was a reason behind it n i think it was becuz he crossed Chigurh when i guess he hired the Mexican cartel 2 retrieve the money. i know he talks bout it right after he shoots Steven Root in the throat.
Terrible music, doesn't fit Bardem's character at all. Why do you think the film was that quiet? There is no need for any kind of pseudo-cool song. The mystique around Anton Chigurh is expressed by silence and his very calm behaviour (even while his killing somebody). Sorry, I think this video really misses the point.
i've read the novel and seen the movie, and thought quite a bit about what it/they represent... but i still can't put my finger on exactly what the scene with the crow means...
Fuck all these ppl, this was a great video, perfect for Anton, and no it isnt jus his voice and intellect, it was his look and waht he did - erie hair cut, lifeless facial expression, dark clothes, dark blue dungaree jacket(i think), you knew Anton Chigurh was a psycho the moment he strangled that cop and he didnt say a word, watch the movie douchbag!!!!!
germanfilipino your retarded..everyone thinks its gonna be a good video and then it sucks cause of the shitty music..bardem won an oscar for his character and the dialogue is the reason it won best picture you moron it has nothin to do with his clothes..what are you, gay?
i dont care wat he won the oscar for - first of all Im not sayin it wasnt his voice and dialogue, im sayin that it was just that. I dont care what the hollywood ppl say, it was mostly his crazs-ass look. And the way he looks is apart of ''character'', so back off me - I still think this was a cool video. If u can do better than make a video or tell me about a better one.
i couldnt agree more...why the hell do people have to ruin the clip by dubbing freakin rock music over it??? so freakin annoying. i'm like, "oh cool, a good clip to watch!" then the freakin heavy metal kicks in. wow...that's just what this awesome movie really needed. even sports clips..this has gotta stop..
Actually saw the movie and thought would be cool if I mix couple of scene of him. I thought Alas's song was suitable. Didn't intend use the movie's visuals for making a music video.
It's hard not to be attracted to the bad boys, and they don't get much badder than this. I wouldn't know whether to run from this guy or beg him to take me...

Ermagoneese 3 years ago
Carla Jean's knew of him.
That means Chigurh was vulnerable and that was something he could not allow.
This is also why he killed Carson.
Not only was Carson sent to eliminate him but Carson had the measure of who Chigurh really is.
Chigurh cannot have any equals.
But neither can Death or Satan.
Chigurh realises his own frailty when he breaks his arm.
He is an instrument of evil.
Not evil itself.
Evil can dispose him as easily as he disposed of his victims.
