What does a Ferminator actually do? Does it remove the bottom coat in Summer or just dead hairs etc? Iv heard a lot about them but not what they are used for. Thanks!
@PurdyBear1 It removes the undercoat, which is mostly dead hairs. Depending on what kind of coat the dog has, it can also 'strip' coat fairly effectively.

@kitty3309 No, it's only part of the clipper blade. It's the teeth part that holds the hair. Cutting the hair takes the second moving part that slides back and forth, cutting all the hairs 'caught' in the upper blade. Furminators do not have the 2nd sliding part(no moving parts) that would do the cutting. I hope this explained it. :D
@wolfyhound Oh I get it now. Thank you! I thought the bits in between the teeth were sharp like a blade kind of like a thining comb. I will give it another go but my cat is quite boney along his top line because he is so old, not sureif itwill work so well on him. :)
@kitty3309 Just don't do it where he's bony. You can stretch his skin to the side a little and "brush" it that way too. Don't do it in one spot too long. You'll make a bare spot!
@hyperose1 Why would you feel bad for the dog? All that undercoat can matt up and pull right out of his skin in painful flat plates of nasty hair. Getting all the loose shedding coat out makes him feel better and have healthier skin.
@wolfyhound we have a furminator and our dog loves it... It is because the 2 chains that are connected to the leash it just looks not that nice but i know the dog is probably enjoying it!! :)
@hyperose1 Haha! That's just like a leash to keep him from jumping off the table and getting hurt! If he tries to jump, it stops him and keeps him safely on the center of the table. We use chain so we can snap the leash to any height according to each dog so they are comfortable, but safe! He's a happy guy for sure!
@hyperose1 Depends on where you buy them. I think close to the same price. Try petedge.com if you want to pay shipping, petsmart if you don't mind pricy, or walmart if you take the chance of them having the right one. Cheap imitations don't work as well as the name brand, in this case, although I'm not normally a brand-name person.
Well done, thank you.

I got one for my cat but I`m confused. It`s basicly a clipper blade with a handle so isn`t it just like razor cutting the hair?
