@lezbriddon We have delivered about 200 million photos and videos online already.
All the capabilities of sending media to your computer or mobile device don't involve the Eye-Fi server, so those would continue to work if you don't want to involve the Eye-Fi server.
so lets see if I understand, I take some photos, it will use my portable pocket wifi to 3g in my pocket to upload photos and video to lets say picasa, now is that direct or is it relying on a server from the eye_fi company......
also
does it have to know the ssId of every usable access point or will it just use any in range hotspot that's password free
@lezbriddon it goes from the Eye-Fi Card in your camera to your pocket router to the Eye-Fi server and to the final site (Picasa in your example).
If you want it to use other hotspots e.g. Starbucks in the US or open hotspots, make sure you get the Eye-Fi Card with Hotspot Access. For all the other cards, you have to configure the card to use specific Wi-Fi networks (up to 32 networks).
@gunnygun3691 That's what the Eye-Fi card does. Gives wireless capabilities to your existing regular camera.Check to see if your camera is compatible on the Eye-Fi support site.
@fabianaino The card has memory on it, so the photos are always stored on the card. Distance depends on lots of factors including the number of walls, router, etc. Typically you will get 45 feet indoors and 90 feet outdoors. The wireless transfer speed depends on the Wi-Fi signal strength.
@ande765a The first time you set up your Eye-Fi card, you will be asked to give it permission to use your encrypted Wi-Fi network. The SSID and password are stored on the card.
@EyeFiCard But the problem is that you need to be right next to an known WIFI network. If i should buy the eye-fi card it needs to have 3G connection. When people travel all over the world, and they dont have so much memory to there Camera, they just get an eye-fi card >>>>WITH 3G!!!<<<<< and then it automaticly sends your pictures to your computer at home.
@ande765a Since there is 4GB or 8GB of memory on the card, you can take photos and videos wherever you are - even if you aren't near a Wi-Fi spot. Whenever you turn the camera on near a Wi-Fi spot, it will upload to your chosen destination.
We have noted your suggestion for 3G connectivity.
My photos are going to pass firstly the eye-fi server before they go to my computer. Am i right? This is not very good for our for my privacies. Don't you think...
@vagelis17y If the Eye-Fi card and your computer are on the same Wi-Fi network, and you have set up the Eye-Fi card to send content only to your computer (no online sharing site) then it never leaves your network.
But what if you are miles away from your network as KRFuti88 asked before? You told him that the pictures will go to eye-fi servers first and then to his pc...
@vagelis17y whether you are miles away or not, if the Eye-Fi card and your computer are not on the same Wi-Fi network, then the photos & videos will be relayed through the Eye-Fi server.
@KRFuti88 Yes it will, as long as you enable the "Relayed Upload" feature in the settings. This will allow the pictures to go from your camera to the Eye-Fi servers and then back down to your computer.
@KRFuti88 If the Eye-Fi card can is authorized to join a Wi-Fi network and you have enabled the "Relayed Uploads" feature in the Eye-Fi Center, yes it will send it to your computer. Your computer needs to be on to receive the photos.
Great innovation! Will get lots of publicity at worst will it innovate the snapshot culture bypassing this fun idea. Why upgrade to a gadget camera tho If you can keep your own? Saw the product prices, they seem fair!
'' it goes from the Eye-Fi Card in your camera to your pocket router to the Eye-Fi server and to the final site (Picasa in your example).''
So what happens when your server fails etc, is the card useless without it?

How far can I move away from the Router?
Say a normal size ballroom. Can it still retain the signal strength?
If the router is in the room and I am outside the room, can it still transmit effectively?
Sorry to ask so much. I am a use to doing wireless photo transfer. looking into the possibility to use this item.
