  • hey kid your doin pretty good, im jealous!

  • Nice video. I'm currently trying to decide if I want the Yaesu 897D or spend more and get the Icom IC-7000.

I'm kinda leaning towards the Icom radio at the moment.

Also, don't let those Mac haters get to you. Use whatever feels right. Both Macs and PC's serve a purpose.

  • what connections do u have with the Mac. Ic 7k has what a usb? or a din 9?

Very good video hope you have lots of fun. WJ2L

  • BTW, is PSK-31 something the radio can do by itself? Or was that $89 decoding program needed for the PSK-31 receive demo, here?

If it's the latter, does the program also do what the IC-7000 needs for PSK-31 transmit? And, is it possible to connect two IC-7000 audio line(s) directly to the computer's audio lines, or was there another interface box needed, here?

PS I thought that only Kenwood's TS-480 series radios did PSK-31 out-of-the-box... anybody know for sure?

  • I got it almost a week ago...yes, way to many options ;-)

  • Nice rig!

    Keep the tuner.

It's a good value and works well.

  • Nice rig!

    Ditch the tuner

  • any chance to find this radio for under $400?

Sorry,im going for my Technician Class License, and trying to find a radio that is good for a beginner and wont cost a arm and a leg :(

  • Oh btw i live in a Apartment if that means anything.

  • FYI, there are some Internet-only alternative means of getting on-to the Ham Bands, for apartment dwellers:

    - EchoLink (by K1RFD) -and-

    - StationMaster (by a Brit' living in Switzerland!)

PS Let's all begin to camplaign for Internet service in Aged Care facitilies, so we'll be able to stay on-air from there, when our times come. ;-)

  • James,

You can find the Icom 7000 on ebay when the seller first list them they go from anywhere from $100 to start off to maybe $300 depends on the condition of the radio and what goes along with it as accessories.

Always remember once you start bidding and the last day of the auction when your the highest bidder make sure your by the computer to get ready to be out bid by another person trying to win the radio.

  • any computer is great wheather it is a mac or a pc they all get on the inernet it is just personal opinon.

  • Agreed, I just wish more HAM software was available for the Mac. I have Windows on the Mac as well. Last resort is booting into Windows, but I do break down and do it occasionally.

  • This video was ruined when you showed your Mac!!!!! :)

    Watev nice rig

  • Those are fighting words! JK Macs are not the best solution for ham radio, but I do lots of graphic/photography work so that's all I use. I'm a big time Windows hater!

  • I really like your new radio. Keep up the good work , wish you all the best and good DX
