@SuperCoolDude2014 Nope, I'm sure they exist somewhere though. You'd probably have an easier time just finding a girl who likes travel and maybe can appreciate history. Mrs. FFV didn't know a thing about trains when we were dating, but she loved the trips we took to go watch them.
beauty... the house i grew up in was only about eight feet from the rails. every night and day for the first few years of my life, there were trains. passenger trains, iron ore trains, coal trains... trains, trains trains. but never three at the same time. my daddy was a railroader and my little boy loved trains... it is quite surprising to me at 53 years to discover that my heart is connected to trains.
@MrBuckwilliam You're welcome, thanks for watching! I know what you mean - when I first visited Ashland in March 2008, I felt like I was a kid again, back on the platform in the Philly suburbs over 30 years ago where I first watched trains. There is undoubtedly a connection.
I've spent many, many hours at the Curve and I can attest that the triple meets are rare. Maybe about 1 ever 100 hours I've spent railfanning there is about the ratio.
The old Conrail schedule used to run 15 trains on Tuesdays and I believe 2 of the 3 triple meets I've seen were on that day of the week.
Yeah well I was 12 when Conrail broke up in 99. My all my town saw were blue locomotives. But I remember seeing them disappear and seeing the black NS locomotives taker over.
hey its depressing but be grateful its not CSX I live near their line in Palmer Ma its terrible theres a massize track defect the rail is like sinking into the ground.. thank god NS is buying Panam so I can see some horses in MA
Holy shit. Intermodal paradise haha. Great video. I remember when I was younger and wondered where all the "blue engines" went haha. I am a sucker for intermodal freight =D.
That's funny, I remember hearing about Conrail's formation in '76 and getting mad because months and months later I still hadn't seen blue anything, just a lot of untouched PC and a few patches. I think I saw blue on a caboose before I saw it on an engine.
I remember going there a year or two after the Conrail breakup, yet I still saw Conrail engines going past. Such a good sight! Gotta head back up there next time I'm in PA.
CONRAIL QUALITY! Wish it had occurred to me to shoot these things when I visited the East in the 1990s but I was just a kid who liked trains and didn't know that one could be a railfan-photographer.
Shoot everything you can if you've got the tape/film/memory card space for it. What may look common now won't be at some point in the future. I tend to shoot every train I see from the lead engine to the FRED for that reason, you never know what might happen in the middle of the scene. It's harder when you're trying to choose between stills and video though. :)
I like what you said about the SD40-2s getting a last wish pulling a hot train for one last run..it truely is a shame to see that. Good thing you caught the very last of what was once Conrail.
Any teenage girls you know that like trains?

@HammerQQ Thanks! I still remember that trip as one of the best I've ever taken. A sad occasion, but great railfanning.

You lived a rail fan's dream that day. Three trains on the curve at one. Awesome!!!
paurb789 1 year ago
The max number of trains you can see on the curve is 3. I go here when school is over, almost every year.
