  • Whats wrong with someone working?

  • Ive seen United do dat

  • Although it looks funny, there is nothing unusual about this. Just like a car on the highway, the plane gets covered in dead bugs, particularly on takeoff and landing, and at low altitudes. because of the angle, it is difficult to clean the windshields of planes with the normal telescoping-handle squeegees.

  • This movie is making me so happy xD

  • Where can I get my hands on this song?

  • yeah this is a 737-300, it has eyebrow windows, ive never seen that on southwest, either they did that surgery to take em out or they pluged em

  • actually this is a 737-700 or Next gen. you can tell by the engine pyolns. the 737 classics have a more squared engine pylon as the Next generation 737's have a more rounded engine pylon.

  • wow.

  • Yeah do you want to die because of an bug splat on your window :/

  • This is nothing unusual. I mean if a windscreen gets dirty, the pilot isn't going to wait for someone else to do it. He or she can do it. D'oh! Do we need everything handed to us on a platter?

  • Wait hold on

You an open the windows in the cockpit!?!?!?!

  • Of course you can, but they automatically lock when the aircraft is going a certain speed

  • The 767 and the 747 have no special speed related locking mechanism.

You can open the flight deck windows anytime the differential air pressure is low enough that the window will notbe pushed up against the seal.

  • Cool ! :D

  • That is rather usual for pilots flying these smaller planes like the 737

  • you can do this in the B767 and I believe the 777

  • Hope he used windex! maybe birds will crash into the mirror and well be laughing at them!

  • ok do rich ppl not clean windows

  • What's wrong with cleaning the windows? Looks like a responsible thing to do....

  • Honest pilots right there. They don't blame Southwest and ask why they don't have a cleaning crew. They sacrifice that to make sure you can afford flying.

  • hahaah lol

  • He is doing what he should do.

  • yeah i was on an alaska airlines tinker bell 400 and they had trouble with it fogging up so we switched to an 800, yeah they used rain-x

  • come on u should it just get those guys from the gas station to do it hahaha

  • I've seen the exact same thing done on other airlines.

  • We wipe down the flight deck windows with Isoprophyl alcohol then apply Rain-X. This FAA approved for our CAT III capable 737-800 fleet.

  • Oh Come On! He Was Just Cleaning His Baby!

  • Usually a ground crew member will do it in the morning before an aircraft leaves but in between flights it is up to the crew to take care of general cleaning, to include the windows on the front of their aircraft.

  • haha funny en smart :)

  • it ain't funny. funny is your mamma who forgot your panties in my bedroom.

  • LOL!

  • Ha! I've done that many times. Maintenance usually does it before the flight crew gets there, though.

  • are you a pilot if you are what airline do you fly for and what planes can you fly

  • Comment removed

  • what do need to have to join the air force because im 15 and im intrested in joining when i am of age

  • Getting in the AF is easy. Just don't have any criminal offenses or physical deformities and you're in. To be a pilot/officer you'll need a bachelors degree.

  • I could only see this being remotely funny if he was using baby bum whipes

  • I see the good pilot very safety-minded, cleaning his own windshield. As a long-haul truck driver, I can say it's a good habit to clean your windshield and lights (though they are unreachable for pilots), but are taken care of during aircraft inspections.

  • seems normal, if you want to save some time and do it yourself if its small

  • What 737 model is that? 400?

  • almost 100% sure is a 700 (hard to tell from that view), SWA only flies 300, 500 and 700. All 700 have this paint style.

  • i belive they also fly 800's i didnt know that they still fly 300 and 500's

  • Comment removed

  • whats there lol!?

    its normal!

  • oh funy pilot!!

    lol

  • Hey man i wouldn't want shit on my airplane windshield....i give this dude props.

  • so what the fuck does this shit mean. its a fucking pilot cleaning his windshield, big fucking deal. id keep it clean too if i had to fly that shit.

  • congratz you said fuck 3 times and shit 2 times!!! that makes you cool!!!...

  • lol

  • Maybe he's just OCD? Anyway, I respect the work ethic, might as well clean the windows while waiting for the plane to load.

  • thats a good pilot right there showing that he likes the airline he flies for. and make sure he can see lol

  • He didn't look like he was exerting himself.

  • wow u ppl are retarded..

  • Responsible pilot!

  • still beter than nothing right...

  • I'm kinda imagining the pilot getting out of the airplane with a bicycle pump and inflating one of the tires next.

  • lmao Darthbelal... your comment cracked me up.

  • LMAO holly hell thats better than the vid!!!!!

  • XD funny man!

  • lol that was hilarious!!!!

  • Yep - thanks Darthbelal, that was very funny

  • He probably thought : "Bight guy needs bright sight !"

  • my family and me laughed our guts out at this. nice and funny

  • it costs around £200 just to have a window cleaned do it yourself is a good thing

  • Ummm, that can't be a Southwest plane when the video is from Australia. Just sayin....

  • Yes, no Australian has ever flown on Southwest.

  • @DallasSportsPrincess thats looks like KLAX and its probably not his video

  • id laugh if he fell

  • hit a few bugs on the way hmm?

  • XD

He might be really bored :)

  • This is pretty normal... although most people who aren't use to seeing it find it amusing. There's no oil change/window cleaner guy when you fuel up. It's the pilots responsibility to ensure his windows are clean. If he's too lazy to do it, he can ask someone to do it for him.

  • I'm pretty sure there is an oil change/window cleaner guy. He does his job and then he runs your credit card through the machine. I saw a documentary about it called "Airplane!"

  • Yeah I did too.

    It was very good.

  • actually there isnt

  • Looll i saw a qantas 747-400 at sydney airport. One opened a canopy from the top and chucked a bottle of water from it washing the windscreen while the F/O turned the wipers on LMAO its was ooo funny

  • LMAO!!!!!!

  • this is because the retarded line guys can't handle full shitter and windows...they can only do one thing at a time

  • u see this alot

  • lol

  • well sohrt cut coasted south west, ten million fine by the FAA!

  • My dad who's a mechanic for US Air says most of the flying is automatic. Even some of the take offs and landings.

    Still a cool job though.

  • Takeoff's are never automatic.. the thrust levers are auto when the pilot presses the toga button when beginning the takeoff. But they enguage the autopilot after takeoff... and they usually disenguage the autopilot before landing, but in some cases they have to use "auto-land" in really bad weather or just for practice... but they are always watching the airplane to make sure everything is going correct.. if not, they fly manually..

  • I'm not sure where you got your information. For the record, most planes can do auto-land and auto-takeoff, but the pilot normally performs them manually. In bad weather, the pilot performs the landing manually, but uses heavy reference to flight instruments if there is low visibility.

  • Uh.. I'm a pilot. I've been flying for 9 years. There is no such thing as an automatic takeoff. The only thing that is automatic on takeoff is the thrust levers. The pilots engauge the autopilot shortly after takeoff. Autolands are possible on most large aircraft is the runway in use is equipped and crew are certified for autoland. They only have to use autoland if the weather is very bad. They practice autoland in nice weather now and then. Most of the time they land manually.

  • I love how a rational post like jmr's receives a thumbs down. Seems like people get a little mad when good information interferes with their armchair pilot delusions!

  • any advice i am planing on starting to get my private pilot licence and then giong comercial i found a college that will incoperate this into a degree with a few extra classes how realistic am i to expect to make over $50,000 in two to three years as a JET pilot???

  • Comment removed

  • one question, i know you are an airplane pilot but do you fly military aircraft? You can never really be 100% sure on what technology they posses. I would imagine it to be better than commercial flight technology

  • me to

  • I wanna be an airline pilot. It would be awesome

  • I think it's actually fairly boring. The take offs and landings are an event but then you just sit there for hours and watch instruments. Especially long flights. It's like being a glorified bus driver.

  • if you love your work then basically it wont be boring... if you love it you wont get bored.. on my end im on training and i always fly on FS9, i do long haul flights.. and i dont get bored staring at the computer monitor. lol.. but yeah, it can be boring for some.. not for me.. :)

  • Rofl, i know what you mean.

  • jaja!! as a copolit, i sometimes have to clean our windshields on our B737 aircrafts too!!

and its not SWA that i work for

  • ...what is so funny about this video? I see only a pilot who is cleaning the window from his plane. What is the problem? A pilot works with planes and in the video we can see this. What's unusual?

  • hahaha..Nothing unusual about that man, he is just probably cleaning some bird shit...the only funny thing is that he is probably eating mac and cheese everyday and has on one pair of underwear because he is the right set on a southwest plane...he probably makes about 34K a year and has a 140K loan to pay off......LOL, I think that is what the video is implying...LOL, im in his shoes!

  • well now we know

  • as a rampie its good to see a pilot clean his own damn windscreen for once.

  • keeps their costs down my ass. lets see you get up there with a ladder.

  • haha.

  • And what is so unusual about this video? people who work in aviation see it every day. And to the poster who said only maintenance and flight crews clean windshields, I say depends on which airline you work for. Some have cleaners do it.

  • LOLZ FUNNY

  • Is that a parking ticket?

  • LOL its really funny but thats how they do it.You think they take some ladder waste time grounding the airplane just to clean its front windows?

  • Yeah man he is cleaning his baby

  • Music makes it funny haahaha

  • He's keeping his baby clean.

  • good work he takes pride in work and aircraft ide do the same.

  • Which dumb pilots do that on jetliners in the world? maybe on smaller prop or private/charter planes but not on something like that. Its so lame. Thats why they have cleaners to clean up the plane( sometimes its on the flight summary checklist filled out by pilots ). Some people say bullshit here that its normal and pilots do that !

  • If my window was dirty, I would not wait for a ground crewman to attend to it (much less waste their precious time) when I could easily do it myself-- or better yet, have the F.O. do it :-) . Besides, the P.I.C. has final say as to the airworthiness of the aircraft, and if he wants the windows cleaner than they are, then he has authority to do so however silly it may look hanging out over the windscreen.

  • i always assumed that because airplanes fly so high and at such speed that all dirt is just blown off the plane

  • Even in flight, and especially during approach and after it touches down, a plane can get dirty; fast. In flight, the airframe builds up a static charge which allows dust, exhaust residue, insects and pollution to stick like glue. A small amount of grime will not seriously impede visibility, but it builds up over time. And the whole airframe itself must be cleaned regularly to ensure smooth airflow over the fuselage and airfoils.

  • thanks freakybuzz

  • He said a "cleaner". What's that? I love when people like you open you mouth when you have no clue what you are talking about. You sort of flame yourselves.

  • I'm sure the next time they delay your flight because "the window was dirty" you'll understand.. after all on time efficiency and keeping out of the newspaper is far less important than having the professional cleaners with their professional cleaning license do the windows before each and every single flight during your 25 minute turn around than letting a lowly ATPL captain do it himself, since obviously they know so little about aircraft.

  • Maintenance and pilots are the only ones in a position to clean the windows. There is no special crew or equipment to get the job done. The groomers are responsable for the interior of the aircraft, like picking up the shit you left lying on the ground because your too lazy to find a garbage.

  • lol its asshole

  • Duh... He is cleaning the window.. .How dose that save cost!

  • done all the time, yes some do actually use Rain-X or stuff like it.

  • LOL

  • Thats why they have co-pilots. XD

  • do pilots use rain-x on their windows?

  • :-)

Actually, we use "Plexus" since the windscreens are made of plastic, not glass.

  • LOL

  • I do this before I leave on the first leg of an flight, it gets dirty...

  • Pilots do this all of the time

  • Workplace health and safety would have a fit.

  • I'v never seen an aircraft window cleaned any other way... What do we need professional cleaners on ladders now to clean windows? hope they don't get their ladder caught in the pitot tubes. Workplace health and saftey has nothing over the ATSB. "Due to cleaning a pitot tube was broken leading to an aborted takeoff when the ASI did not become active on the F/O side. It was determined to be broken by a cleaner cleaning a window."

  • Umm Pilots clean the windshields on planes all of the time. It's really not that big of a deal...it's just like a car...bugs get stuck on it! He just wanted a clean view!

  • emmmm swissair does it too ,,,, and im sure that other airlines does the same

  • This is why Southwest rocks and has stayed profitable for so long. Their people have a great work ethic and team spirit. Friendliest crews in the skies.

Not my favorite airline to fly (it is basically a bus with wings), but you have to give them credit for their hard work.

  • idiots americans

  • he only cleaned his window maybe there was a rest of bird**** you really would come with a group of cleaners???? when yes you are silly

  • what if he fell off 0.0!

  • i'm sure the airline have some spares stocked up somewhere :P

  • congratulations u just caught an embrassing momentn tape

  • i'm confused

  • are you blond???

  • You want something done right? Do it youself. Why trust those fucking mexicans to clean the windshield?

  • hahahahaha lol

  • lol

  • You mean the cockpit right?

  • Who's the dumb now, :-)

  • This shit head is calling ME dunb when He doesn't know the difference between a cabin and a cockpit.

  • well then fuck you and you bitch mother you fucken pussy!

  • It's spelled dumb.

  • Lol every airlines does this. After each flight the passenger cabin is cleaned but unless the aircraft is going to be idle for a long period, and especially after 9/11 the control cabin is not touched, therefore occasionally a pilot has to open the side window and clean the glass that could be smeared by bugs or such chemicals as deicer.

Its not a sign of a poor airlines lol

  • Also notice that its the FO, not the captain who is doing the dirty work. :)

  • Gotta love seniority hu?

  • its a joke smart ass

  • Hey fucktard, my reply wasn't to the movie it was to some of the users here taking it seriously. Get over yourself prick.

  • Oh what I'd give to clean a cockpit window

  • I'm sure they'd let you do it for free...

  • just gimme a time and a place

  • Probably your local airport and at your leasure. I can't imagine anybody who'd turn down free labor.

  • Aah crumbs I just remembered they closed down my local airport, good job I was kidding.

  • I've also seen Ryanair pilots do that. They probably do that at many airlines.

  • Ryan Air pilots also have to clean the honey pot before they can clock out.

  • lmao, guyz, they're just cleaning their window, it might be dirty or something... ^^

  • Thats pretty normal...

  • that's true this is normal i saw the same thing in MIA with american airlines

  • its normal, nothing special, maybe you are out of date.

  • what's the big fucking deal?

  • I dont get it...so what...

  • I don't blame the guy, dirty windows suck

  • phili878. I'm a "grease monkey" A&P technician, and I'm also anviation college formal pilot. "Pilots" like you deserve to be out of aviation industry

  • great, so please tell your fellow mechanics to show some sympathy to fellow pilots when it gets to use the pen to fill out the maintenance logs with whatever little shit the previous captain forgot or didn't feel like reporting, leaving the blame for the next pilot that takes over the flight.

  • Phil878. Those GREASE MONKEYS are the guys that keep you alive in the air buddy. Show some respect. With out them , you don,t have a job!

  • yeah, half of those GREASE MONKEYS these days look at you filled with hatred in their eyes when you tell them to register a bird strike on the maintenance logs in the middle of the night because they are too tired to do so. It pisses me off to fly 5 legs all at night and each time having many of them be lazy not wanting to work. I respect the new guys and the older guys but from the guys in the middle, there are too many lazy ones around

  • must be a greenhorn because after 2-3 years of being a copilot of 737s, A320s etc, no idiot would ever do that. Grease monkeys should do it, I got enough shit to prepare for the next flight, plus, pilots like that make all others look dumb

  • you are so fucking stupid man. what's the big fucking deal about whipping a windshield ?
