The whole Darth Vader isn't Anakin thing is a metaphor to show that the dark and light side in him were two separate entities. Anakin was willing to die to save Padme' therefor technically he does...becoming Vader....Darth Vader only got the armor because of this fight. the fight was another metaphor of Anakin's body dying with his spirit to become the armored shell Vader.
