oh.. i play cello, but iv played bass for some years before.
Try not to use fingers 1-4 to play whole tones (F G) as you would in the double bass. use 1 finger per fret. finger 4 doesnt necessarely must be on the fret to play "in tune", so F G could be 1-3.. Also dont think much of notes and positions, its way faster to learn scale patterns, and intervals, which will aply to all keys and string tunings, since you still use fourths.
