  • The only thing even remotely "vomit-inducing" about this video was the shaky camera. That was a bloody millpond! :)

  • You've got to be kidding. That's not at all violent for the English Channel or North Sea. Ferries between Dover and Calais, or Hook van Holland and Harwich continue through proper storms, not just a bit of swell and wind, before they even consider cancellations.

  • You havent lived it. This isnt rough. Tables didnt topple, you didnt strap yourself down, or wedge yourself into a bunk with a lifejacket. And this looks like SeaFrance anyway, who arent the best at keeping to a timetable (unless it involves them scheduling a strike).

  • funny, despite what the ending said. the smiles and laughing says you had a good time. i love taking big ferries (we dont have them around here sadly), but rough weather makes ANY boat ride more fun if you ask me.

  • ur a idiot stay in the city

  • a fate worse than being impaled and your bollocks blow torched at the same time fer sure... NOT

  • Hehe I almost feel this vid implies more drunkenness than harsh weather actually

  • man if you think this little joy ride was rough your sadly mistaken, this was a joke.

  • hahahahahah your shaking the camera, at sea it never shakes that fast lol

  • That's not bad at all!

  • @Oakleaf700

Falaise was very small, just 2416 tons. She was old-fashioned - lots of wood inside. And she could roll and pitch like crazy. I wasn't crew - only 15 at the time. My Dad was a Sealink Master, my brother was Falaise's 2nd engineer. I went over with a schoolfriend whose dad was Sealink Newhaven's boss. Free trips whenever we wanted, but we weren't expecting what we got. Our dads took us down to the ship and told us we really shouldn't go as it was so rough - so of course we did.

  • @AndrewGilbert56 So it really was as bad as i remembered..If the person who made this video had been on Falaise, then he may have known the meaning of ''hellish crossing'' Your brother must have had very good sea-legs! I think I have been on her before, as we used to do the Newhaven Dieppe route every year, but the rough crossing was very memorable, and it stuck in my mind.new big ferries are nothing like her!

  • Respond to this video... oh yes, the ''craziness of youth''we went on a school trip to Oostende, and the ferry then was a bit rough, but we were all so excited, we didn't have time to get sick..but I remember a poor student teacher looking green. That ferry was like a troop ship, wood slatted benches, and no luxury at all [1969] . To think our WW1 &2 Troops made these crossings too, not knowing if they would ever come home again..a ''true'' hellish crossing...God Bless them!

  • @Oakleaf700. I did a crossing in Falaise in a F10/11 storm. No passengers or cars, just crew. Bumpy, but not as bad as the day before when I went over to Dieppe in Caledonian Princess. Same conditions but broken stabilisers.

This film is indeed quite a gentle crossing on a much larger ship. Landlubbers have no idea.........

  • @AndrewGilbert56 I heard Falaise was a steamer, once.A very tiny ship, and I remember the barman, when I went to buy some chocolate saying ''don't eat it , dear, it will only come up again'' so I listened to him, and saved it til i got home![a bit melted] Was the ship as ''rocky''as I remember her? Mum said the loos were not nice.! a woman was nearly dying of seasickness..The vid here is as calm as anything! they should have gone on Falaise to know what ''Rough'' was !! Were you crew??

  • @AndrewGilbert56 Maybe the person who made the film was being ''ironic?''-the sea here was not even showing ''white horses'' ! My dad was the opposite-when the ship was rolling and pitching, he'd say ''like a millpond'', or:''this would not even slide the Captain's Rum off the table''.BUTDad had done his National Service in the Navy-no moaning allowed!

  • Sorry, but this just looks like a normal day at sea to me. What do you expect? It is a ship at sea. The ocean has waves. In the North Atlantic we had 70 foot seas and the ship was under water as much as it was on top. I guess for people who have never been to sea this is rough.

  • i love the power of the ocean

  • Grow a set you twat

  • Oh my word! seriously, this is really calm. When it is truly rough, the decks are all shut to passengers.-and modern ferries are huge. as a kid I crossed the Newhaven/Dieppe route on a tiny old 1947 ferry called ''Falaise'' and this was in a real storm, and all outer decks were closed.for a glimpse of what most people term ''rough'' see ''Ferry off coast of New Zealand''. THAT is a ferry from hell!

  • Not a perfect crossing, but I am sure the captain would of closed the outside deck if it got worse.

  • Lol, try working at sea. This is nothing!

  • lame I have seen much worse off of Matha's vineyard

  • I'd be in the galley grabbing snacks saying ITS THIS OR A LAWSUIT and Im damn hungry now.

  • ??? wheres the bloody waves. I have been on the baltic sea and believe me. a storm on the authomn on the baltics you wont go outside.. Because that´s the last time anybody will see you alive (10m waves is common on the baltic sea) I bet it was maybe 3-4m waves on videoclip.

  • @xirux01 high five for beeing on a ferry in the baltic when the wind decides to push you around on the deck x) Yeah agreed, storm in the baltic and you go outside, thats when things can get ugly really fast. haha, this, well surely was a rough ferry ride indeed but been on the baltic in some 30+ m/s then the ferry will make you tuble as videos cant be made steady LOL been there donne that ^^

  • next time you should take a man with you...

  • why mr crabs?

  • What a lot of nonesense..... hardly very rough. Nice looking ship, but you're a bunch of wimps.

  • LOL!!! You landlubber!!!!

  • Come to the north of scotland. Then you will know what rough is

  • This is a joke right? Try the ferry crossing between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia Canada, Gulf of St.Lawrence, at times when there is a storm to experience a rough ferry ride.

  • @Rockywaves73 Holy jesus, what a terrible crossing. I used to go every summer to go to cape breton and we used to go freaking argentia every single time. It was always delayed and people were always puking. One trip in particular, was 17 hours long. I swear, my sister was the only person on the whole boat that wasn't puking her guts out. It was a nightmare, and I was amazed at how many people can get seasick when the boat is rocky enough. (... everyone!)

  • that is more than normal, the delay was that to reduce the effect of the weather the captain reduced revs or pitch. and generally, normal people do not venture out of their cabins when the is too much movement. if you end up walking into walls it is your fault.

  • lol you wimp

  • You limeys feel so disenfranchised, do yah?

    Try living in Alaska.

  • @cm2dude - in Australia we have a label for this - "whinging Pom".

  • You big girl.......try crossing the Pentland Firth.......this is nothing!

  • I went to Belgium with my school last year. On the way back on the ferry the weather was horrible. It was pitch black outside and there were people vomiting. But, we had fun trying to play cards out on deck in all that wind.

  • where i live people would say this is calm! :)

  • anyone up for a game of chess?

  • when you hear the bow smashing into the water and your pint spills over the brim even though your holding it... its nothing to worry about. MAN UP!

  • lame!

  • five hours!! thats nothing !

  • That was friggin' lame.

  • Thanks for the video, oh Honorable Chairman of PussyLand. This was the most epically dramaticized video I've seen in months. I never thought taking a ferry was such a hard experience for you.

  • Unfortunately, The captian wasn't know about to check the weather, before starting the shiping. they've been forgetten further check the first before we cancel it. What a worst isn't!!!

  • What waves? This looks like a regular fall/winter/early spring ferry ride where I'm from. When it gets bad, they won't even let you out on the top decks. Give me a break.

  • The waves in my toilet are much larger; grow a pair!

  • Toughen up ya clown.

  • nonsense

  • this was the most over dramatised video iv ever seen

  • @DanielThomasVideos Totally agreed. I've been on a ferry to Newfoundland during hurricane Andrew. That was fucked! This is standard ferry experience to me.

  • <3 the ending btw.. XD

  • Thx man good vid.

  • i wanna go on tht ship now where is it?

  • @chrisWtea01 Dover or Portsmouth to Calais.

  • Sea state- moderate to rough from what I see, which is pretty normal conditions for there. You want to travel in a storm 10 in winter. Then, you won't have the opportunity to go on deck safely....

  • that's half the fun of sea travel.

  • lol you should have seen when i went on a Cruise we went past a hurricane XD very funny could go out the wind was so strong you would fall over

  • Look pal I went through a tropical storm on an airliner, well thats it.

  • Ferry journey from hell? I've seen stonger winds and bigger waves from a fart in a bath! Try being on the Pentland Firth crossing in January after a huge storm! Then you'll see what a journey from hell is!=P

  • what a little bitch you are sir!

  • HAHAHA!that is the biggest waves i have ever seen!NOT!

  • Please... nice calm seas as far as I can see. You landlubbers just have no idea what "sea legs" are.

  • what's all the fuss about, try Aberdeen to Shetland, Ullapool to Stornoway.

  • You are so dramatic. This is nothing. The sea is very calm and if you call this heavy seas and hight winds then you are not used to being on the sea.

  • seriously weak.... I've had to spend 11 days in force 9.... that was annoying... you branded "crossing from hell" a windy weather condition

  • Another pack dog mentality comment. Even wolves are more civil than that. I've been on a ferry in a storm and its bloody scary, even if its not like the latest tsunami video you might have watched. God I thought women were more catty than men. I guess I was wrong.

  • That was fuck all, PUSSY!!

  • if its soo bad your not even allowed out!

  • ha ha

  • your sister looks pretty good!

  • Personally i like the sea to be like that. At least when im confident that the ship im inside is up to the challenge and the crew know what they are doing. If those 2 factors are OK, a weather like that is fun.

  • I think i spotted you dropping you tampon on the ferry also

  • Big deal, grow some balls.

  • pussy boy - have you never been on a boat before- get over yourself !

  • That is nothing - you big girl's blouse

  • true britishness !

  • That reminds me of greece....We were on a ferry and the sea was very rough. They had to fix the cars with ropes... As we went on board I was very nervous but later it was fun...but not for many others^^

  • i agree with shirva77, iv bn on the ferry in rough seas, it had to turn bk !

  • That's nothing! you should try crossing from Shetland to Aberdeen in a force 10 gale,on a crappy ferry that takes 14 hours!!!

  • I wouldn´t quite call this the ferry from hell. I think it´s a litle bit of an exaggeration. It´s more like a ferry going through rough seas and making everyone on it sick..

  • that looks quite smooth to me!

  • on our ferry the security doors slammed shut and my arse cheeks followed!!!!

  • doesn't look so bad. I've been stuck in a storm in Indian ocean for 12 days straight on the way to Dubai from Singapore... THAT was unpleasant

  • pride of bilbao storm it is called and the wave 1.36 actually reached the bridge

  • go look at pride of bilbao in biscay storm.. p.o.b all the way lol

  • thats bad publicity saying dont take a ferry...i enjoy thier mini cruises as a foot passenger...fun times x

  • omg what a whinge ass...lmao....that is nothing!!!

  • Comment removed

  • hahaa

we get the falling over, and wind, and vomiting on like every boat ride to go to Liverpool for the Isle of Man .. try and go on one of our boats everytime you wanna go to England!

    x

  • Oh my god.... that is not big waves honey.... stay on land!!!!

  • we hit a force 10 gale coming out of callais on the p&o and there where plates crashing and people spewing all over

and to make it worse we had to wait half an hour in heavy seas outside dover before we could get in

  • you should try crossing the pentland firth to orkney, thatll make you vomit ;)

  • lol

  • Is this on a P&O ferry??

  • Video from Hell.

I can make bigger waves in a bath tub

  • Brittany? You mean a friend, or Britain?

  • france

  • lol that's way not rough dude!

  • You call that rough?

  • Landlubbers...

  • lol, the ending comment was great

  • Comment removed

  • Ferries are fantastic fun and everything I've seen there looked like a jolly good ride...you want a real horror story, check out stormy ferry runs up fae Aberdeen to Shetland or Orkney...

  • The door wasnt stupidly heavy. I work on one and when your on a ship the pressure makes it hard 2 open...this is so dramatic.

  • Yes, lets get our friends in front of the camera and over dramatize the ships movements by moving our feet around looking like we are stumbling!

  • Stupid video!!! very stupid!!!

  • I agree, i´ve been also in worse rides and ferries are always fun.

  • WTF was that?! I've been in way worse than that...did anyone notice how the sea was not cresting at all??

  • I generally enjoy ferry crossings myself, but I live or have travelled in areas where the weather has tended to co-operate and not be nearly so hostile. The one time I got really sick was in the Caribbean on a crossing from Grenada to Carriaacou Island. But that was a small boat trying to do 45 knots and it was just just bouncing up and down something insane.

  • don't take a ferry unless you have to - what a great comment. Is there any other particular reason why people get on them?

  • you can bring your car. ferry=win

  • My god what a moaning git! A ride like that would be great in my eye's. You really want have nothing to happen when you have a holiday that you can laugh about later.

  • Try the crossing from Aberdeen to Lerwick on the Shetland Islands... this is a calm day by comparison.

  • that looked like fun although i have been in worse storms on a ferrie than that wimp

  • oh my god that looked really bad..at one point i thought that guy shuffled a little with the unbelivable gigantic movments of the ship...it was rolling & pitching that much that a poor passenger couldnt drink his pint of beer without getting a dribble on his jacket

  • Thats flat calm with a little breeze.

  • What a pussy...

  • I used to work on ferries, and let me tell you one thing that was a pond compared to what ive seen and been through in the irish sea!

  • thats nothing.. here in Baltic sea that is so normal..

  • A boat on water...that's all it was!

  • that was nothing my friend.

  • you should have jumped overboard and done everyone a favour

  • You are the biggest pussy i've ever seen.

  • man... it's only wind...

  • The Calmac ferry to the outer Hebrides has been out in worse conditions. I know, as I have bene on it in a storm - and that was scary. Flickering lights, 20 degree lists - vehicles strapped down with chains to prevent uneven weight distribution!!!!!!!

  • As someone who done this many times in my life, my best answer is to sleep.

Go to your bed and sleep, it the only answer!

  • Hahahahaha!!!! What a pussy! Before I lived in orkney I might have thought this was rough but jesus Bit of swell and wind, would not even stop me going outside for a fag after having some dinner!

  • I bet wiping your arse with single layer toilet paper is also "rough" in your book. For God's sake man, thats not rough...

  • Real men play shuffleboard in these conditions...

  • no backgammon?

  • @AllanVictoriaA Hahahahahah

  • @AllanVictoriaA no real men build card houses!

  • that is not rough omg hahahhahahah lol iv cn bigger waves wen my mum jumps in the swimming pool !!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Haha, that's not rough at all. The channel is regularly like that. I've not made many channel crossings, but last time I came back from Le Havre it was choppier than that and I didn't think much of it....

Had it been really stormy, they wouldn't have let you outside...

  • What the fuck? This ain't rough? Where I come from I've experienced journeys 100 times worse! I can have these for breakfast.

  • wtf at .52??? 'boy'? This is *such* a Guardian reader thing. Is she a bloody journo or something?

  • haha, thats was a calm crossing, they wud not last 2 seconds ont the northlink ferry beetween aberdeen and shetland.. idiots

  • That ain't rough. Nhava sheva to Durban on a 13500GT container ship during the south west monsoon, THAT is rough. This barely qualifies as mildly choppy. Landlubbers, bless 'em :P

  • land lubbers.. that ain't rough!!! geez.

  • what they all invent to kill people

    in a innocent way,

    ships, planes, cars,

    yep...

welcome in the world of Technique, mwhuahahahaha,

    thanks for the money, suckers

  • are you joking thats a walk in the park

  • All i see is a little bit of wind, and a lot of people showing symptoms of being drunk!

  • I am a Captain of a passenger Ferry off the coast of Maine in the U.S., and it looked like you had a bit of an unpleasant trip. It was unfortunate to see all the rude comments made about your video. Apparently they all seem to be so much more experienced with rough seas that they attempted to belittle yours.

I found it interesting from a "passengers" perspective.

  • Indeed, that wasn't a pleasant trip it seems. But you can't argue with me if I claim it wasn't a storm!

  • fucking dry up u daft wee cunt! thats fuck all! try being in 90 knot winds in the south atlantic on the way to the falklands! fucking stupid prick

  • I hate how there is always some jerk who decides to puke on the floor, not thinking about who has to clean it up, and making everyone else sick in the process.

  • I don't think anyone 'decides' to puke on the floor (unless they are buliemic) with sea sickness it just happens

  • Being seasick isn't a decision, but choosing the floor as a target certainly is. Why not take some motion sickness medication, get a bag from the crew, or simply throw up overboard?

  • I have to have an injection before I get on a boat cos I get very seasick. The injection makes me very drowsy and almost drunk but I do not care - I HATE being sick, I'd rather break my leg

  • I've had much rougher overnight crossings to the Shetlands mate , that was just a bit of movement.

  • I was on 1 from Aberdeen to Lerwick, going to the folk festival. Waves were so huge that 1 picked the boat right up and threw her down onto the beach. Then an earthquake split the ground and we were sucked under and spat out on Boni beach, Australia. Then a typhoon blew us to Manilla. Then a twister lifted and dumped us in the centre of Havana. A monsoon happened, and a volcano and then Hurricane Hamish blew us all the way to Lerwick.

And we hadn't even stopped playing tunes in the ferry bar.

  • what a load of shit, fucking knob complane about nothing ,prick.

  • hey girls...

    suck balls...

    its good for you

  • That was shit video, I work on a ferry and you wouldn't be standing up if it was that rough, how can you still hold the camera you idiot

  • Seen bigger waves in a paddling pool lol

  • You cannot blame the ferry company, they dont control the weather.

I was on an Antarctic cruise and we where hit by a cyclonic depression in the Drake Passage and had waves soak the promande deck even!

  • i was on a cruise liner coming from france to southampton across the bay of biscaye and wee sailed overnight in a gale force 10 storm and that was bloody frightening. the ship i was on weight 80,000 tons and had 14 floors on it and it was getting thrown about like mad.

was probarly the scariest night of my life

  • lol that looks like quite a laugh actually.. I'd certainly want to try having a drink in the bar just to see if i could do so hahaha

  • Haha, nice video, love the comments. I hate that feeling on a ferry when you just cant control how you walk. Its funny but horrible at the same time.

  • i was on this ferry called the lady of man in a gail force 9 leaving liverpool to go to the isle of man wich is wer i liv nd wen we were sailing through it the..... caption made an anoucement to say we are now in a gail force 12 basically "he sed stay in your seats and go to sleep' and tht night we nerly capzised because windows shattered and a man broke his arm also there was people prayin and these metal plates we bolted to sum of the window framed i was not sik bcuz im a manxman.

  • Looks like a pretty normal crossing to me,(what were you expecting)

When you board a ship "expect some water and a few waves"

  • Does anyone know if it`s true that rather

than extend the stabilizers to make the ride

    more comfortable for the passengers,especially

the elderly, the captain will bow to the owners

and let people suffer in order to save fuel?

    Apparently,stabilizers slow the ship,thereby requiring

more fuel to get to the ships destination.

If this is true, then the owners should be forced to ride on every trip to find out how

it feels to sail in brutal storms.

  • ahshucks they would just hire someone to ride for them.the top guy cant be on every boat.

  • bunch of pansies! Weather like this makes a boat ride more fun (not that it isn't anyway) in my opinion.

  • try working in the north sea you hate bad weather. Coming from Shetland thats just a breeze nothing more.

  • Nothing compared to the Northlink ferry from Shetland, one night the waves were coming past the windows, the seats in the bar were flying around as were the bins. Only one Barman to speak to. 100 other passengers got drunk and went to bed whilst I sat and filmed it.

    Not a good night.

They set sail because it was for the shift change..

  • If it was that bad you wouldn't have been allowed outside.

  • Thats nothing if ya want a rough trip try crossing the Pentland Firth in winter.
