Wouldn't this all depend on how many calories you take in on that day since you said, "...you're gonna have a whole bunch of energy *leftover*. And what does our body do? Store energy." So just to be clear, this is with the presumption of a reasonably high (or normal) caloric intake.
@anamneses28 For the question of where your heart rate should be, it doesn't matter how many calories you've taken in. If you have a higher caloric intake, you will need to burn more or be happy losing weight at a slower rate. But if you have 300calories to burn you can keep your heart rate high and burn it quickly and reap the fitness benifits, or keep your heart rate lower and take longer to burn it and your fitness won't improve as fast either.
@libra61060 It ges against what alot of people have learnt. if your heart rate is at 120bpm for an hour, you won't burn anywhere near the calories of having your heart rate at 160bpm, and you won't lose anywhere near the amount of body fat. Keep it as high as you can for the duration of your session.
That's true if you are running on all cylinders for an hour or more, but how many regular people can keep their heart rate high enough for the amount of time needed for their body to eat into muscle for that long?
My Personal Training will help you lose weight so you will feel good when you look in the mirror. You will catch your reflection in the shop windows and everyone will be wondering why you have such a big smile on your face. Never be embarrassed again!
Get ready for a shopping spree because you will feel great when you throw out all of your old 'big' clothes and reward yourself with a brand new slim fitting wardrobe! ,,,,,,

@anamneses28 in short, your caloric intake doesn't dictate your best fat burning heart rate zone.

Makes sense to me...I think it is just a motivational tactic for people that are too fat to put the hammer down.

Perhaps you should mention that the body burns muscle when exerted to such extremes
