Anyway, great song. And we shouldnt hate (most) american soldiers, they get lured in with nice promises (like doing something right and having an adventurous job), an education and decent pay. I used to wanna be in the military too, fight for freedom you know, thankfully i find out in time thats not what you'll be fighting for.
really strange to say i love this record, it always move me to tears and anger, i hate to think that so many men fought and lost there lives, and the ones did come home got ignored, we in ,
england tried to learn from mistakes made towards these soldiers, out lads fight wars we dont agree with, but they are following orders, and we try to let them know that we are behind them ,disreguarding our polotics, our lads get sent into war zones without defence armour, and the rest,HEROS SOLDIERS ALL
If only all people had the unification that soldiers had with one another, the world would be quite a different place. Unfortunately I guess it takes being faced with death on a minute to minute basis to keep it real, when REALLY we face that everyday. We none of us know when we will go.
EVRYTHING, not people, vietnam and america lost so many people, im not sayin it was a war that was justified as i was too young to understand it, but you said THING, not ONE thats why war continues, its seen as ruining a country, not a race of people, so sad, powers that be decide to crush another nation, they dont just crush buildings, and how many powers that be actually go out themselves and fight the war they declaire, they send there minions to do it for them dont they,
@squigleeds there are always going to be wars, weather we like it or not, plus it seems as the days go on people hate american soldiers more and more, even though american soldiers are only helping nations in the middle east, but when a country is Globo cop everyone hates them. that's one thing i have learned from being a British teacher all these years, no matter how much good a country does, everyone hates them. america doesn't treat anybody with respect but they sure as hell do a lot for us.

VERY well done and the use of only that one photo said it all. I vividly remember that period of time in this country's history. What a terrible waste of SO many lives - both the US and the Vietnamese. I missed Vietnam by about 6 years but, ended up doing nearly 12 years in the USN. That photo says a BUNCH. That's a band of brothers right there.
If that was me, I'd be the one pullin him on to the chopper, get him home.
9/11. Emotion is tnatural, but, but...we'll never forget ours either.
Green n white through n through. Little orcs? huns? rankers? ranker wankers? No surrender, well, unless its a papish knock on the door. Understandable. Scare the livin daylights outta ya, HA!. Run away home now - your mammy's callin ya! Ain't that right Mr Connolly?

Exactly, who cares about killing thousands of Vietnamese soldiers AND civilians with Napalm and phosphorous toxins, right? /sarcasm
Seriously, think about what you said. The Americans ravaged forests with Agent Orange, causing massive damage to forest as well as a huge amount of deformed children, as well as using Phosphorous bombs (and maybe even Napalm), which is basically like burning thousands of people. I would've run away if I were them.
@nicksfilms722 You're right, they could not fight us head on. Few nations are capable of this. Much like when we fought for our freedom from England, no? The face of war has changed for us, and it is doubtful we will ever have a nice convenient army to face off against again.
I never cry that often to song but I always cry to this one. It's deep. My dad always cries to this song because his cousin die in Vietnam. Only 19, just a kid. It really doesn't matter to me whether you agree with a certain war or not. It doesn't really matter what side your on, whether you win or lose. War is very grusome and it is hell. You have to admire the courage of these soldiers to go through such a brutul thing.
Sorry to keep writing, but it suddenly occurred to me that this very picture you have chosen, is what my brother's actual job was in Nam. Transporting (the dead) onto the Huey's.
P.S., You know I agree with you about focusing on the words instead of the video. Perceptive of you. Sometimes on YT, ppl put any old things together. This was very thoughtful.
This song always makes me cry. No matter what side you're on, our men were treated horribly when they got home. They did a job the government asked them to do and the "press" didn't cover correctly. For every "baby kill" shot, I've seen ten of our men carrying children and babies out of harm's way. For them and all Vets, I always say to them Thank You and shake their hand. Some have cried.
Yes, Elton John and Billy Joel were in the LERPs together. Daffy Duck was also part the team. The were led by Alice in Wonderland and Bobby Hill was the Staff Sargent.
Just remember, as an Airborne Marine, there are no stupid questions. Only stupid people.
Unlike today's professional army, in 1969 we had a draft system where most men were eligible. The great majority of these men fine but there were some who shouldn't have been allowed to serve. The military paralled society and society's drugs surfaced there, made more dangerous by cheapness because of proximity to the sources and potency. Most front line combat units had men who used drugs, some units more than others. The enemy were also known to enter combat with heroin needles in their arms.
the words are the best I've ever heard, thought "still in Saigon" was good until I heard this. I was in the artillery near the Saigon River and over to Cambodia for two years, better than stateside teaching kids to war, we all knew it was a lost cause, but served with all our might. Pot? that's nothing compared with base camp and all the heroin and booze and knowing way down deep it was wrong, but always thought "we'd all go down together." I volunteered and couldn't get a job when I got home
i wasn't trying to be rude ok, i was just trying to end it so that neither of us would argue with each other. but you insist on being an asshole. i said i "usually" start shit but i am trying to avoid that. i am not saying that i am a boy genius but you make it seem as if i was a complete retard and my old folks do understand my problems they were teens too. P.S we BOTH look like real assholes arguing on youtube so lets just put an end to it here, i pretty sure we can agree to that. right?
It is so awesome. Like you said, it gives you a piece of an idea of how it was and still is. But those Vietnam vets received no glory for their action.
@virtualstrangers60 Thats completely true, they were spat on and called babykillers. My Brother whose in the US Rangers, and when he came home protestors spat on him, he's not a killer, he's just doing his job and yeah he has killed people but he still deserves respect.
