Why are we called the back ppl. There's other races darker than I. How we the black ppl. Are skin is never black. We are the colored ppl we can be very white to the very purple. Lol we are colored.

Creole seems to come in different shapes and sizes. Though I'm not from LA, I am half Cuban. Cuba, Haiti or Saint Domingue and LA were tight in the 1800s. Mom is black, Spanish and Chinese. Dad is Mexican and is a light skinned mestizo. I always felt a strong connection to LA. I am pretty sure that some of my ancestors crossed LA at some point though I do not know.

White people in general are 70-90+ white, one of the biggest white nations in the world are 70% white in ancestry. Creoles of colour are on average 80% black/African in ancestry. The average creole of colour is black because they are no more mixed then whites.

i have a question mr comeaux, i am a mulatto and the white side of my family (the side i live with and associate myself with) is from costal mississippi and has french ancestry ,my grandma and her mother and so on cook cajun/creole foods. since parts of mississippi was under french control in the 18th century, would that make me Louisiana French Creole, or just plain mulatto?

Biloxi Mississippi was a french colony...In Fact It was the First Capital of French Louisiana but was Moved to Louisiana so that the French could have a greater control of the lower Mississippi...There are many Creoles that have ties to New Orleans...It is only 60 miles from New Orleans on the Gulf Coast..I believe You are as Creole as they come...Haitian Creoles are also closely Related to the Louisiana Creole but Biloxi is part of the Louisiana French Colony

I find it very funny that alot of Creole people on this page are so ANGRY when someone calls them black...The base of creole blood is black african, white french, some spanish and native american. The cultural dominance is french and african. I am black american and I love all of my people in all forms and shades...I was on here just to read cause I love history...but I have to say I am disguisted by some of the comments. have pride but not ignorance...We all have to be loved by God.

@alliranch Let's look at the practical aspect of it all.Creoles are definately of the Black Race no denying it. But I think that most of these people are trying to express there frustrations.Again There is no reason for people to be in denial.Remember these comments are not representative of the Creole community but of the individual expressing themselves. Self hatred is not inherent of one group.Sometimes it's good to hear them as it gives one a better understanding of another's frustration

What's the reason to try to find differences instead of seeking commonalities? Divided we fall.

@alliranch They're upset because they aren't black. They're mixed and anyone calling them black is a clown for ignoring the genetics. Why is it when a mixed person is black and non black X, they're labeled black but when a mixed person is non black X and non black Y, they're aren't forced into one category? That one drop rule holds absolutely no scientific value and doesn't even make sense when the vast majority mixed 'blacks' obviously do not look black.
