I can't help but think that the cue card tricks were triggered by maybe a secret, non relavent word that told the dog to lay down, roll over, etc. In any case....this dog is obviously incredibly beautiful, and VERY intelliegent! I can't even fathom how strong your bond is. unless I compare it to my German Shepherd who passed away 9 years ago from cancer.
Yes Jeff, Phoebe & I do have a really close bond, she is my baby :). I'm not real sure what cue she's using for the card trick ? it's nothing I'm doing intentional, I'm as puzzled as you are with the trick, but I think it's cool she can do it :).

Well, while I do believe the dog could PROBABLY learn the design of the flash cards... i think the dog is more trained on the order, language, or body language of the trainer...
@nimda0 actually, Boxers can read and count. I trained my Boxer to count. It isn't smoke and mirrors. It's TRAINING. Something MOST people DON'T bother to do with the puppies they buy. IT TAKES MONTHS OF INTENSE TRAINING TO TEACH A BOXER TRICKS OF THAT KIND. There is no order training involved. My dog counts fingers and barks that # of times. I hold up a card with the number on it and she barks that # of times. Mixed up, backwards, forwards....she gets it right every time.
It is possible for dogs to read (my pup can), but Pheobe appears pattern trained. Also, it is clear that she is reading your body cues for each command. I have seen all of the three videos you posted and each time, you show the cards in the same order. Her jumps with the hoops, however, are the most impressive in the PETCO group videos.
