  • Been an Avs fan since the rivalry with detroit but this is one of the greatest moments in hockey history. Gary Thorne just adds to it as well. Thorne = best there is, was and ever will be as far as hockey broadcasters are concerned

  • I am gonna miss Drapes bigtime.. he is the conssumate professional and a hell of a class guy. Thanks Drapes for 17 years !

  • Gary Thorn is the greatest announcer ever

  • Goosebumps when the announcer yells Drapes' name.

  • bring the NHL back in ESPN so we can hear gary thorne call games again!!!!

  • I wish all anouncers got that into it Gary Thorn you are the man

  • ! wish he yelled this much in NHL video games, it would be so much more epic!

  • If hockey comes back to ESPN, they better find a way to get Gary Thorne away from calling baseball!

  • I love the quality

  • been a caps fan since there run to the cup that year, and 2011 is there year!

  • @400ex4stroke .....only if you can spell "their" right! :)

  • @400ex4stroke ehhhhhhh.......not quite

  • Hanta yo, baby!

  • i love gary thorne....bring him back: for example to NBC and Versus!!

  • This announcer is the greatest ever, period.

  • hd quality.

  • chills

  • fuck versus, and nbc, gary thorne and bill clement were the best. Bettman needs to go and Nhl needs to go back on ESPN

  • @wings19 hell no. espn has ruined one too many sports already. their "know-it-all" dipshits are worthless.

plus, they followed one team throughout a week. either colorado or detroit. a waste of time [to see same team in a week/month]. shake things up is the point.

gary thorne, by the way, does color commentary for the orioles on MASN. he doesnt do all the games. though he does get the majority with tim hunter, mike flanagan, or jim palmer.

  • Draper gas to be one of the best acquirements in hockey history. Detroit gave up $1 for him.

  • @WPGJetsFan4Life 50 cents more than what i would pay for him.

  • @mustkillu135 funny thing is though, draper went into the GM's office one day, and actually gave them the dollar back that they paid to get him, so its probably one of the best trades detroit may have made, and for what he does, hes still got it. but not for too long.

  • look at bowman smiling after the goal, he knew he knew the wings were unstoppable, it was just one of those things where they could do no wrong! they were destined to win that cup!

  • haha i was a wings fan growing up in Buffalo until i started understanding hockey and love the sabres but the wings are still one of my favorite kirk maltby draper, loved them

  • Washington should really get a blue third jersey next year and use the eagle design they have on there shoulders as a crest.

  • Draper and Maltby had a great run, but everybody gets old eventually

  • @luridplanet

still playing on the Wings dude

  • damn, we had to get swept didn't we :(

  • I've always loved both the Caps and the Red Wings. I remember when I was a little kid I didn't want either team to lose, I wanted them to share the Stanley Cup, haha.

  • man if the caps won tht game, it might have been a series, oh well, theres always THIS YEAR!

  • as a wings fan i totally agree, the esa tikkanen miss was the picture rap on this series. funny thing is the first 3 games of this series could have gone either way for both teams. i like the caps chances this year though since the wings dont look hopeful haha. hopefully ovie gets it.

  • @funnyguysinpants Not anymore, haha

  • "The incredible comeback is complete!"

  • i just met him!!! i love him!

  • Kris Draper is underrated!

  • Uhm I'm a huge wings fan. But him and Maltby need to get off the team. They aren't good anymore. Trust me. I watched all 82 regular season games and all the playoffs. They are shit now. Trade them or send them down next season for Helm and Haydar. Shit I'd even take Abdelkader.

  • That's your opinion, but if he "sucks" so much now, why was he the lone goal in game 6 against the Penguins in this 2009 cup game? Why is he STILL the best face-off man we have, and why is he STILL the fastest Red Wing on the ice? I agree with Maltby, but get your shit straight with Draper man.

  • Lol. Hes the best face off man because he cheats. Everyone knows that. He's not fast at all, Datsyuk, Hossa, Helm, Zetterburg, Hudler, even Franzen are faster.

He had one fucking goal in the playoffs. ONE. He had 3 last year, and a total of 11 during the season. I love my Wings, but Draper and Maltby are awful. Have you noticed that their line isn't called the energy line anymore? Its the fucking grind line. LOL. We need Helm and someone else (Haydar or Abdelkader) to bring up and get them goin

  • Agreed, they need to bring out the young talent that definitely proved themselves during the playoffs.

  • actually i think darren helm might have replaced him with fastest but i agree with the rest

  • i like drapes as much as the next guy but darren helm is the fastest and zetterbergh is the best face off man.

  • Just because Draper scored one goal doesn't mean he deserves to be on the team. And I wouldn't pay him a million dollars to take every faceoff for the team and then gtfo the ice. Also, he is not the fastest Red Wing. Welcome, Darren Helm.

  • They are the most experienced on the team and they have a huge role in the locker room, you think Lidstrom is the captain cause of the C on his jersey? read any transaction news and you will know that Draper, Chelios and Yzerman are the people who call players and talk to them about transactions more then the general manager!

Draper called Hudler so did Chelios, so he won't leave.

Draper and Maltby teach all those players on the squad how to be real men and play with heart, 4 Stanley Cups man.

  • Hudler left.

  • I know, what i meant is, they called him to talk to him about not leaving......no matter the outcomes Draper has a huge role in Detroit.

  • Agreed, also, please just sit Holmstrom. I understand he has his role in front of the net, but I know of a bunch of players that can stand in front of the net and still occasionally move the puck or win a battle along the boards. He makes me sad, especially when compared to the rest of the puck handling talent on the team.

  • babcock, not being biast, is the best coach in the league..... but for him to play holmstrom who was out of gas in game 7 and sit abdelkadr who was on fire, made no sense at all, that could have been the entire game difference.

  • Look at his amazing ability to win faceoffs!

  • @Wilf1992 In their prime, Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby were the greatest penalty killing forward duo in history.

  • @Wilf1992

Yea, he lacks size, but my god is he fast. You don't realize it until you watch them play live, he looks like he gets shot out of a cannon.

  • the wings still have guys now like they did back then. lidstrom, holmstrom, draper, maltby, osgood, this teams gonna win the stanley cup again no doubt about that. especially since they won last night 5-0.

  • i got chills when the announcer screamed KRISSSSS DRAPPPER!!! IMMA SABRES FAN 2

  • your five and he could still dummy draper at that age you fucking douche

  • if only the had ovechkin

  • what other good capitals were there that year besides kolzig and bondra?

  • Adam Oates, Richard Zednik, and Steve Konowalchuk were good.

  • Joe Juneau, Olaf Kolzig

  • yea, well he said other than kolzig.

  • Oh yeah, Phil Housley and gonchar and Tikkanen. Not bad I think. Also gotta remember Richard Zednik had a spectacular playoffs.

They had this one really good swedish dman but I can't remember his name.

  • Holy shit i was at this game! the wings are the best! drapes is the man, what a steal for $1!

  • word is that espn is getting the broadcasting rights back next season....thorne is back!

  • are you serious?!!

    he's a legend as a hockey commentator

  • Where did you hear that from? I haven't heard anything about that from anyone.

  • ive read it in a couple different ap articles, but the league has a contract with Versus thru the 2010-11 season, sooooo i very well could be wrong...but i think i speak for everyone when i say, PLLLLLEEEEEASE BRING BACK ESPN!

  • they won't ever bring back hockey on espn cuz they will lose money. as it is, they are making boat loads with basketball. nobody will watch it cuz nobody cares about hockey anymore. I like it alot, but sadly, our nation has become warped with basketball

  • Is basketball a professional SPORT? Fuck basketball!

  • haha yeah I always say they should start at 100 and play for 5 minutes, that shit is boring

  • basketball is more popular than hockey. so you just made yourself sound like a fucking retard

  • Actually, ever since 2008, hockey has moved ahead of basketball in the category of popular professional sports in the US. The list now says:

    1) Football

    2) Baseball

    3) Auto racing

    4) Hockey

    5) Basketball

Also remember that hockey is more popular in Canada than football, baseball, auto racing, and basketball.

Do some research before you criticize people, especially considering you're probably just one of those people who criticizes others just to make him or herself feel better.

  • how in the hell is auto racing more popular than anything?

  • its more popular but not as exciting ..... hockey for some reason has just dropped off the face of the earth..no major television channel will broadcast it unless its the playoffs..and even then..the finals at best..its kinda sad.

  • Unless you live in Canada like me. There is at least one game on every night, usually two or three.

  • that;s just wishful thiknig

nhl and VS are contracted thru 2012

  • gary thorne is an amazing commentator

  • Best hockey commentator ever. The Marv Albert of the NHL!

  • they won game 2 of the 1998 finals at the JOE LOUIS ARENA which would be their home and they won it in overtime. So THEY DID WIN AN OVERTIME GAME AT HOME IN 1998 FINALS.

  • no shit stupid, what he said was, since the draper goal, the red wings had not won an ot game at home, they lost in 2000 to colorado, 2002 to vancouver, 2002 to colorado twice, carolina in 2002, 2003 to anaheim, and in 2004 to calgary, and then game 1 of 06 playoffs, they beat edmonton at home in ot, not that fucking hard 2 explain

  • Are nuts? I hope YOU wasn't the only thing you forgot to mention.

  • You appear to be the mongoloid if you have to keep coming up insulting everybody.

Besides, how often to the Wings have OT in their arena?

  • I remember watching this series. To this day, the sweetest sound I can ever hear is the Red Wings goal horn going off. All others don't even compare.

  • How many home overtime games did they have since then? What is so weird about that?

  • are u serious! lucky datsyuk scored that .4 tenths of a second goal in period 3! amazing search it up if u havent seen it

  • what is wierd is how you don't know your stats. Igor larinov scored in triple OT in the 2002 finals.
