There are actually 2 or 3 extra bits: when the guy has blood spraying out of his neck and the guy getting his head ripped off. There may be some split seconds of extra bits too, but there wasn't much cut.

Some of that close up of the gore scenes looks like the handywork of Rick Baker, the premiere speical effects make up man who did "Star Wars" and "The Thing". Typical 80's

This was true horror before it's time. Imagine a bunch of mutant sea creatures running rampant and raping women. It's a very disturbing concept and would be very difficult to remake in today's market.
