  • First time I listened to this I thought it was a bit crazy and sounded bad, but now I can't stop listening to it, it's really good! especially the ending, it's beautiful.

  • this is total shit. theres a reason he withdrew this from the market in 1999

  • @Mobyman690 you should first understand what music is actually

  • @Mobyman690 stop being so closed minded, you don't like it because you don't understand it...

  • @TheChanneldejavu

my friend. i probably understand more about music than your entire family put together.

if you want to talk about open mindedness go listen to the Miles Davis album Bitches Brew. This song is full of emotional expression and the guitar work is actuall pretty good. However much of it is simply unpleasant to listen to. John later withdrew the other album he released during this period because according to him "I only recorded that to get drug money:

  • the man is clearly a complete legend and actually one of the most technically accurate and musically astute guitarists ever. I just dont think this is even close to his finest work. The Empyrean is an absolutely cracking album full of innovation, high production value and great compositions. This sounds like it could have been recorded in his bedroom whilst he was fucked on heroin.

  • first i didnt like that song. but im in good health already

  • I use to write songs about female genitalia glued to things, then I took an arrow in the knee.

  • @Krushh1030 i used to make arrow in the knee jokes, but then i took an arrow to the knee

  • i'm sorry but wtf is this? It sounds like a bunch of people got high, ran some cats over and screamed to the noise it made. I absolutely love john and rhcp, but cmon, this isn't good.

  • @KarenHalberthal you have to open your mind up to the experimental side of music, I guarantee that you'll like this song in a week

  • @KarenHalberthal I'm not high. I've never been. Still, I love this song.

  • @KarenHalberthal I AM high, and also love the song. Open your mind and really listen.

  • @KarenHalberthal you have to give it time. I was exactly the same, this stuff grows on you.

  • Wonderful, blaze up mofo and enjoy this wonderful stuff.

  • I wish the solo at the end was longer!

  • Whats wrong with his singing ... I love it.

  • omg magical songwriting imagin what that album wouldve sounded like if he got a proper singer...

  • HIs last solo album is beautiful , so different from his work with the peppers , the song "wet sand" from the peppers is probably the greatest song i have seen live , actually brought a tear to my eye , the build up , the guitar playing then the solo at the end - he is an underated guitarist and he should get more recognition for his work

  • I mentioned this song to a person I meet in a club one night , they looked at me as if i had made it up - only true music lovers know this is genius - seen john play once , never forget it , the man is a genius - sublime guitar playin

  • @caribbean02

I always thought so too. His relationship to music is beautiful, rare and unique, he's amazing artist and a true genius. I think People who can not appreciate his work are simply not smart enough to understand it and to recognize how brilliant he is. They really don't deserve to listen to him.

  • This is art.

  • paint your eyes into the sky..

  • awful, just awful.

  • @n3r3var1n3 ur a moron

  • @n3r3var1n3 GTFO!

  • @n3r3var1n3 It is so lame and terrible that is actually pretty good. I love the whole lo-fi feeling into it, the song is great and the lyrics are unbelievable. Just give him a chance.

  • The opening lines sound just like Tiny Dancer!

  • I don't give a fuck if this isn't or is his best. It's fuckin John Frusciante.

  • Hes having sex in this song

  • i feel pain, pain indeed when i listen to his voice when he was addicted. but guitar was wonderful. as usual.

  • i'm scared. thank you God that you have saved John.

  • @markusrandlev ahahahahahahahhahaha

  • @markusrandlev obviously you're not ready to listen to this song. This is a real good song, but not for all the people... unfortunately

  • @markusrandlev this is great he's putting his emotion into this, which very few music artists actually do

  • @markusrandlev check out his other albums, they have a more easily listenable feel, especially shadows collide with people / the empyrean

  • @markusrandlev Such a child.

  • how in the fuck is this not genius? I can't believe people don't understand raw emotion when they hear it. :-/

  • why is everyone just hearing this and thinking its new? this is from a while ago, when John was high 24/7 and just sang/played whatever came to mind

  • @luckeynumber7 back in 1991.... good times

  • I'm embarrassed i liked john in RHCP after listening to this piece of shit. what a joke

  • @ddude7246 You do know he was on heroin right? Besides his singing which obviously isn't the greatest here, this is pretty brilliant.

  • @bbguy17 Fun Fact: The majority of Niandra Lades was recorded before John developed his heroin addiction

  • @DMB206 Oh true, but he admitted to being stoned for the entire recording. Maybe that's why his singing isn't so great.

  • I don't really like the song, but it's very emotional and special for every fan, to see how deep down he went and how strong he has been to climb out of that hole. Thanks for sharing, friend.

  • This is definitely not his best work.

  • No... this is what drugs does. some shit just isnt worth doing. and he's still fucking around with drugs. maybe not heroin but who knows?

  • @tuulenkoti what year are we in?

  • I fucking love the outro.

  • Comment removed

  • i'm happy you're still alive john

  • The reason I just bought my strat.

  • I think the song name is almost like an idiom of being between a rock and a hard place

  • What year was this?

  • @KingEldo3 1994 from john's first album Niandra LaDes and Usually Just a T-Shirt

  • @DuDuHDify you sure it wasn't 1995?

  • @BlastFromYesterday yeah i'm pretty sure that the album was released in '94

  • i think you need to experience some sort of pain in life to fully appreciate the beauty, talent, emotional rawness behind most of jf's songs. To me, he's kept me alive and persevering no matter what. Im just so glad he's still alive.

ps. cant wait for kling to make a great album with the peppers. comparing him to john is useless, he's a different person and ill give him my respect.

  • Can you send me an mp3 of this song please?? When I got this album off of itunes this song was messed up. It would be much appreciated if you did. Thanks!

  • im pretty sure John Fruciante is jesus

  • @gruntfuckle mm yeah true true

  • this version is the best I think. it's 04:09 where Im at. I tried to sleep and used my Iphone to get on youtube and search for this song but I couldnt find this version so I had to get up and start the computer :/ now I don't feel like going to sleep. guess I'll sleep when im tierd. anyhow. awesome song.

  • That backwards solo is fucking immense.

  • He makes the wrong notes sound so fucking right. Respect!

  • this album was my love when I was 15 ... my favorite in this song was always 2:40 but the way you make me feel, has always been real ... you little duck house.

the guitar ... and everything else, really beautiful. I always wondered what he meant by "duck house" though haha... not that it really matters.

  • John Frusciante, you either love him or you love him, simple as.

  • The first time I heard this song I'd smoked 2 joints. Needless to say, I cried.

  • @bbguy17 Im drunk, not lke fully drunk and shit, but ive had enough to understND THSAT THIS SHIT IS LIOKE THE FUCKING TERMITE DUST COCAINT EO FTHE GODS AND THAT EVERY SOUND IS LIKE THE ANGELS JIZZING ITOTN YOUR EART

  • @bbguy17 wtf what do you smoke man

  • @FritsFrusciante joints retard gaw.

  • @TheAlmostGod888 rofl im from holland and if i smoke some joints and listen to this i dont cry it just gives me a boost

  • Is there any better recording of this song?

  • @SheAndThey You're either funny or stupid. Either way you're funny, but I hope you know it for your sake.

  • @SheAndThey But seriously, yea there's a better recording on Britney Spears' first album. Her rendition is freakin unbelievable. SO GOOD

  • @TheCalm25 What's your problem? I was just wondering if John made a recording of this song when he came out of his addiction phase. Song is obviously great, but would like to hear it in some fresh edition. Geez

  • "The smile in my face isn't always real but the way you make me feel is always really real"

  • the smiles on our faces arent always real. not everyone can admit it but john can

  • This is heroin

  • @amentjam I don't like this comment, but I like this comment more than all the other ones taking themselves too serious and feeling like deep-thinkers for smoking pot and listening to an artist. So, cheers my good man.

  • @amentjam no its not lol this was released befoer his heroin addiction

  • @trev3050 Well, it's true that this wasn't recorded while he was a heroin addicted, but it's also true that he began to use heroin when he was still touring with the Red hot chili peppers in 1992, which is the same period he wrote this song. Anyway, I can really feel that this song relate very deeply to his depression and consequent heroin addiction. Beside this, mine wasn't supposed to be a criticism to the song, not at all. Probably I just expressed myself wrong

  • @amentjam this is schizophrenia

  • @999Anonimous666 Me or John Frusciante?

  • @amentjam Sure John

  • @amentjam First of all, it's nothing like it. Second, this whole album wasn't even written when john did heroin, i don't why everyone thinks that. The only album john has ever made as an addict is Smile From the Streets You Hold.

  • john fucking frusciante \m/

  • You little duck house.

  • This is an amazing song, draws me in each time I hear it. The emotion is real, and is the epitome of being on the edge of insanity and genius at the same time. Raw lyrics, and naked vocals. Those that don't appreciate it, probably don't see the beauty in bands like Radiohead or Joy Division either.

  • What a fucking awesome title xD

  • fruiante is not an amazing singer, or gutarist but that did not stop him from making this amazing song

  • @harrr007 Are you joking? He is an amazing guitarist, one of the best of this generation.

  • @harrr007 Listen to his album the Empyrean, then try to say he's not an amazing singer or guitarist.

  • @harrr007 dood he was named the best guitarist of the past 30 years....im not sure you really listened to any of the chili peppers music?

  • best song title ever!!

only jf could have come up with something like that

  • sorry im a huge chili peppers and frusciante fan except but this is just strung out opiate rock.....nothing special

  • @forgetwhatyoudontkno You must not be that big of a fan because this is true beauty.

  • arg! why does it have to end when it start to get awesome!

  • @Cheeum its awesome all the time

  • johhn is a genius !

why won't you tour in holland :'-(

  • what is this song about?

  • 19 people's pussy isn't glued to a building on fire.

  • It's really true. John Frusciante is not a great singer. However, he is awesome and brilliant and godlike and wonderful and fabulous and has a fucking good voice. And some fucking good songs. And fucking good guitarness too :D

  • JOHN FRUSCIANTE SHOULD ROT IN PIECES I HOPE HE NEVER FINDS PEACE IN THIS LIFE AGAIN HE IS A KID KILLER N DRUG DEALER HE SHOULD HAVE KILLED HIMSELF AFTER HE KILLED RIVER! HE WILL ROT IN HELL SOMEDAY N SHAME ON YOU FOR SUPPORTING THIS SCUMBAG!!!!

  • @stonsummergrl18 gtfo

  • @stonsummergrl18 Lol, unsuccessful troll is unsuccessul.

  • @MrMcPang U SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED OF URSELVES FOR SUPPORTING THIS SCUMBAG KID KILLER HE GAVE RIVER(23YRSOLD) A FATAL SPEEDBALL WITHOUT TELLING HIM N HE DIED QUICK WITHIN MINUTES THEN JOHN WENT ON DEALING LIKE HE NEVER HAD A SOUL!! HE'S A PIECE OF SHIT N HE NEEDS TO ROT!!!!!!!!

  • @stonsummergrl18 Time to poke a troll. Where did you get that information my good sir?

  • @stonsummergrl18 no, i think you'll find that's wrong

  • @stonsummergrl18 I'm tired of seeing your disgusting blasphemy on John's videos. It's no surprise you have no life, your goal for the day is to post some BULLSHIT/FLAT OUT INCORRECT info on River Phoenix's untimely death on a John Fru video...its rather pathetic.

  • @stonsummergrl18 On the night River overdosed(Oct 31, 1993), he and his band were to perform at the Viper Room:

-A club than owned by Johnny Depp(if you must blame, blame him for letting the dealers in)

-John wasn't there, only Flea from RHCP, his sister and brother(Rain and Joaquin), and his girlfriend...and some dealers of course.

problem, YOU make the decision. And I loved River Phoenix, such a talented actor at such a young age too

  • @stonsummergrl18 ................................so how in the FUCK is this John's fault again! IT ISN'T, THAT'S WHY!!!

Take it from someone who KNOWS a thing or two about addiction. You CAN'T blame other people for your

  • @stonsummergrl18 your mammas pussy was fucked by frusciante so probably ur his kid

  • @stonsummergrl18 ???? haha you seriously need a life go get some friends maybe?

  • Does'nt sound like it's recorded that well

  • @ledzepSCOTT12 yeah, he used a 70's tape recorder for this album

  • this song its fuckin GREAT not because sounds good, But this song open your soul and make it scream and cry so this is for what it GREAT

  • this is genius...pure and insane genius!

  • You little duck house..

  • amazing guitar work...won't comment on lyrics and vocal

  • he was soooo fucked on heroin when he wrote this song i bet

  • @BenniePropane He was not.

Niandra LaDes and Usually just a t-shirt, was recorded before his severe addiction to heroin. :)

  • @Mjoolman before the big heroin hit he had been doing heavy cocaine, since he was 19

  • @Mjoolman Actually, it was recorded during his falling into heroin. if you listen to the album, all the songs were recorded chronologically, so the deeper you get into the album, the deeper into addction you get.

  • @TitaniousGrubbs Ah that's a good bit of information. Never knew that.

  • I used to sing this song when I was younger ^^

  • holy shit 0_0 when it got to the last little lick I had an instant shot of goosebumps!

  • the reason i likethis song isn't becaus i think its particulary good, i mean vocally it's awful and john has produced far bette tracks but it gives an insight into his tourtured deranged mind during his darkest years.

  • "I paint my mind just cuz i'm alive" :)

  • cool guitar , vocals sound like a cat being fucked in the arse with a chainsaw though:(

  • One of my favorite songs, thanks for posting. It's like an emotional landslide, going from desperate in the beginning to completely free in the end... his live performances emphasize this, too. I love it.

  • @mussman717word

You're welcome! And it's a pleasure when I see that other people likes my favourite music! ;-)

  • @darkplacescouk your comment is a pointless waste of space and nobody gives a fuck if u dont like it so keep your shitty opinion to yourself

  • @darkplacescouk

    True art doesn't ruin anything.

  • For anyone thinking what the fuck is this shit, listen to the last 40 seconds of this song before you judge.

  • My father heard this song and said John Frusciante was untalented, so I told my dad that he was fucking blind and that he had no soul. Then he said he could "do a better song than that," and I, as a guitarist, told him to shut the fuck up before I kicked him in the face.

Thumbs up if you would've done the same thing, lol.

  • @mussman717word LMAO

  • @mussman717word douchebag.

  • @MDBrookman

    thanks, faggot

  • @mussman717word no problem, tranny

  • @MDBrookman

I still appreciate the gesture, twat.

  • @mussman717word Lol. I remember m first beer.

  • @SickDemented99

he was so clear that half of the songs had no title..the clearest one I'd say.

He stardet this ablum as a concept but then he started diving in heroin and so..that the result..a building on fire i'd say..

  • Heroin x Crack + Talent = This

  • @annoythefish

    Best. Comment. Ever.

  • Greatest song title ever!

  • This song is so real.

  • Whiney hippie is very whiney.

  • Comment removed

  • Best name for a song ever

  • @SickDemented99

and we all know how trustworthy Wikipedia is!

  • to all the people who dont like this song u can go fuck urself....this song is by a true genius and shows true emotion.

  • When I hear this song in front of my friends they don't know what to say, they think that I'm weird and that's what I love from this song, it distinguish me from the rest.

  • I was in college when this came out and was blown away. Obviously, it's difficult to listen to for almost everyone for various reasons. But, what he was able to do w/ this album while screwing around with a 4 track in his apartment is incredible. Frusciante's one of the most underrated musicians around and has been for years.

He has an early solo song called "ants" in Perry Ferrel's movie "Gift" that I haven't found anywhere else. It's a messed up movie.

  • this is now one of my favorite songs!!!!! so much emotion in all of his songs.

  • i guess he loves lou reed, who else does he admire musically?

frusciante does justice; he knows classic rock better than a lot of people in the new-school...

  • Yeah! JF rocks!

  • omg this song is so sad and touching. john fucking rocks!

  • this guy is amazing. addict or no addict. he was and and still is a bloody legendary artist.

  • He's more than amazing, he's more than legendary. He may say that he's not "in league" with all those other legendary guitarists.. Well I say he's right.. He's WAAAY ahead of them.

  • This is about as emotional as you can get. This was written when John was going through a really fucked up time in his life.:/

  • To the random people saying "What is this crap," this music is great because it goes against modern musical conventions and it shows true emotions. Add that to the fact that John is a genius and an amazing guitar player.

Also, it likely means you were trying to find porn on Youtube and got this video. lawl

  • john is not a guitarist, he's a huge artist, anyway, i agree with you.

  • "this music is great because it goes against modern musical conventions"

There's a lady that's biting off chickens' necks in front of audiences that quotes famous lyricists afterward. Some people also consider that to be art.

  • @goodbadugly16 this was made when he was a fulll herioin addict and released when he was a full herion addict too haha

  • @TheMRmontana nope it was written when he WASNT on heroine but released when he was. he said himself the songs of this album were just his emotions coming threw not his heroine speaking.

  • @goodbadugly16

    EPIC WIN! xD

  • @goodbadugly16 hey don't think it's great because "it goes against modern musical conventions", it's enough to say "it's plain emotion" so much love.

  • @goodbadugly16 I just read your comment which made me laugh and then I was about to click like, but the number of likes was 69, so I figured I better leave it at that :D

  • @goodbadugly16 There's porn involving pussies glued to flaming buildings?

  • @aigmeyer it seems everyone else got that line but you

  • @goodbadugly16 I'm joking

  • @aigmeyer it's all good man :)
