  • Can you use the CDjs to control a song from your computer or no?

  • Is this compatible with OS X?

  • thanks for the video!i was wondering if there is a way of keeping the CDJ 400 effects(roll.jet, bubble) and use them as you mix?

  • When U connect to pc mode, why does it doesnt nothin show up in the LED screen in the cdj 400? :S

  • OK I have a question for you...I tried Traktor pro with my CDJ400s and overall they work well as controllers. However, correct me if I am wrong but with this setup (external mixer I mean) you would not be able to use the recording function of Traktor because there is no communication from the mixer to traktor right?

Is the only solution for this to get a soundcard (like Audio 4 or 6 DJ), in which case you would need timecode cds and forget about using the cdjs as MIDI controllers?

  • I'm a frog

  • Hey there. Nice vid. I have a similar setup, 2x CDJ400's and a DJM400 mixer. I have my USB's from the cdj's goin to my laptop pc. My question to you, Setting the decks up as midi controllers is mainly used as a way to control traktors effects and what not? is that right?, Otherwise, in any case you'd just have another midi controller, controlling the effects in traktor, 'ON TOP OF' having the decks and mixer... is that right?

  • thanks so much for the tutorial, i appreciate it...I have a Mac though so not sure about the driver part....but i hope it works cuz I love my cdj400's!!

  • Is this right, if not correct me:

Each CDJ connected to your computer via USB running traktor. CDJs connected to external mixers via cables. Mixer connected to speakers? The mp3 files you are playing on the CDJs will still come out of the speakers through the external mixer right?

  • so is ur mixer not connected to traktor?

  • virtual is better

  • @TheNightlover77 I think Virtual DJ beatmatches better than Traktor and it IS a better program, BUT DAMN IT(virtual dj) SURE IS AN UGLY ASS PROGRAM!! traktor looks pretty!! lol

  • @djgeeter traktor is fashion ....everybody plays with traktor....but i think that the virtual is more simple than traktor!! thats my opinion.

  • My Select button isnt working is there any other way to select? anyone?

  • I can't get the option when in usb mode to go to midi set up ??

  • @dubsbhoy me neither my cdj's wont even go into usb mode without some plugged in, and then theyre straight into pc mode

  • shit video!!

  • do u need any external hardwear for traktor ?

  • is it possible to control traktor with only one cdj 400 . Like a midi controler.

    nice vid.

  • Hey I have a question. im thinking of buying traktor. i got two cdj 400s and a djm 400 i want to use with traktor.

but people are saying i need the audio dj interface hardware square thingy.

do i need that to set everything up? i want cue'ing and everything obviously.

so my question is do i need audio 2 or 4 or 8 dj with traktor and if i do which one is the one i need???

anyone care to help please? =D

  • What the ... Just stumbled upon this vid (I know the vidpost is old) But... no one has missed the vital fact that the CDJ400 contains a USB asio/low latency soundcard, right?! O_O

And that you can send the audio back to the CD players and out the RCA jack without changing anything in the setup except hooking up 2 USB cables. U all knew that right? Thank god!

  • @DjMarc0s easy, im new to this....could you explain this set up very very basically please?

  • @ajwilkz

    1. Connect everyting just as you would if you were playing the cdj400s without a computer (with cds ur usb memory).

2.Then connect one usb cable per cdj400 to your computer.

    Done.

Dependig on your choice of mixing software the setup will look a bit different, but the cdj400 will show as a midi controller (in the list of avalible midicontrolelrs) and also as a soundcard (in the sound output settings) There is no need to have audio coming out of your crappy soundcard in the computer!

  • @DjMarc0s I knew that and thats what I do. :D

  • @DjMarc0s hi, can you let me know how to control the 4 decks with 2 cdj's, is it possible since they are only 2?

  • @DjMarc0s Yeah I ordered these as soon as they came out, was on the waiting list, they didnt have any midi maps to plug and play at the time, as you explain... I had to use a generic tks mapping file for an idea of what had to be done to make them work, and went from there to create this above. I did it just to see how well it may work, since they were capable, I ended up never using it, but what you say is true now... Rendering this video pretty much useless lol :/

  • Thanks alot man for the info , but i cant find a way to record !

im just using the cdj's 400 and the djm 400 connected straight to my laptop and im also using the asio4all driver . can u please tell me how i can record my mixes ?

  • im useing vista on my laptop and i cant find the midi settings on the laptop, can anyone help?

  • just a question: if u want to use the cdj as midi controller with traktor but u want to use it in external mode using the cdj 400 audio device, who have you to set up? you have to connect rca from the cdj to the mixer?

  • If you sounded a bit happy it wouldn't have been a boring tut..I swear to God I was falling asleep! ..lol..I'm sorry!

  • VDJ has timecode feedback and next to no latency. plus its free.. still the best bet IMO

  • Will you still get true stereo running thru mono?

  • do ya reckon there might be a little less latency if you run em thru an external soundcard/audio interface?

  • yeah i reckon so, i think it depends on how much RAM you have as well.

  • my pitch bend does not work with traktor any idea y not

  • tanks tanks tanks for thr link TKS

    :)

    :)

  • Does using Timestamped CD's or vinyl for your midi control setup reduce latency?

  • Im gonna put up a video soon, cos i have to reset up my new laptop with two cdjs so keep ur eyes on my channel ill have one up soon.

Basically you need ASIO4ALL sound drivers to split the sound and then you play with the deck settings. You must have deck a only with one channel and channel b with only on channel.

  • the mixer is wierd

  • @djkyle9 It is weird!!! Its an 11 year old Ecler Smac Pro20 mixer that works the same as the day I bought it ;)

  • Do the 400's display update from Traktor?

  • Tnx .....

  • Hi!!how did you manage to hook up your mixer so it controls both cdj's..i tried hooking up my djm 400 but i can only use one side of the mixer the rest nothing i can't even crossfade or i may just overlooked one thing or two..what soundcard should i choose!? im so lost ...help please!!

  • also might just let you know with the new version of traktor u dont need the file, if you go through the setttings it allready has the midi settings for cdj400s and other brands

  • will this work the same way on a mac?

thanks a lot! this is great!

  • hm, why should ya want to use Traktor Scratch pro and the CDJs as midi controllers if you can use the timecode CDs to use the actualy functions of the CDJs? Sorry, if I am wrong, but i cant see the advantages there, can you?

  • well, they are a lot of controls on tracktor that you wont be able to control from the cdjs, like loops or syncs ect.. but im with you on that one..

How much is traktor pro with the timecodes cds?

  • You can get Traktor scratch pro with the audio interface and the timecode CDs + vinyls for around 400 quid, the prices vary a lot if ya search on ebay, though.

  • Informative video. Thank you.

I am considering getting the 400s and Traktor and videos like this help in the thought process.

I'm still not fully sold, and will keep my CDJ1000s for a bit longer. :)

  • is that all vhat you need for this or you need smoe CD fom tractor ????

  • Why latency ?

  • help...all my midi buttons are wrong...play/pause kills the low, so does track search right pitch doesnt control the pitch etc....solution?

  • Is there a way to teach Traktor which buttons to use from within the software? In other words, how can I customize these settings?

  • yes in the midi mapping menu

  • whats the lost song/track in this video

  • how did you manage to hook up your mixer so it controls both cdj's..i tried hooking up my djm 400 but i can only use one side of the mixer the rest nothing i can't even crossfade or i may just overlooked one thing or two..please help!

  • I don't know if this works for Traktor but it should do, with the latest firmware update for the CDJ400s it turns them into ASIO sound cards which means the audio from the computer gets sent through USB and is output from the CDJ400 itself. Each deck will appear as an audio output device from windows along with your sound card. I see you're splitting a stereo output so this essentially does away with needing to do that, pretty awesome!

  • im gettin 2 0f them with djm 600 mixer pioneer

    there ace

  • Can you also sinc without the pc mode. just playing with Cd, or flash?

  • Thanks for the video. I'm having problems connecting my Audio dj8 controller that came with my traktor scratch.Does anyne have any tips or answers

  • haha I have the ecler smac pro 30

    they are pretty decent :)

and I'm planning on buying 2 of them 400's too :d

just need to get my decks sold now..

  • hey,please,CAN U POST UR TKS FILE!!!PLEASE!!Or send it to me!!!!greatz

  • oh,just sah it on the right,great work!!!Thanxxx

  • Your using only ONE cdj with traktor. Can you get two going?

  • Sorry i meant have you connected the two cdjs together somehow then into pc?

  • very nice! can you post your .tks configuration please?

  • nice setup. i got cdj400s too, and we got the same laptop :)! your mixer looks pretty nasty tho lol

  • Do you have to have an midi-controlling mixer also? Is it possible to set up the crossfader on the cdj-400?

  • So you don't any hardware other than the CDJs and the mixer? Is the mixer MIDI too?

  • dude this you have been a huge help with me setting up my cdj400's. thanks man!

  • What cables you have to use for this please mate ? Two usb cables to the laptop or just one ? Are there any others you need to buy ???

Thanks for the time and an excellent video.

  • new asio drivers put it down to 1ms i think.

  • have you Audio 8 DJ or ..... what have you soundcard??????

  • Hi, i try to conect my cdj400 and Traktor dont find the cdj400, it just find usb conection and it dosent work, i download the drivers and i think is just me cause im new in this im a producer but i want to start doing some dj, can you help me to fix it?, please any help will do... Thanks Ahead, Grasias

  • Hey I have managed to get my 2 cdj's working with traktor but i can't seem to get my mixer working. I have the pioneer djm 400. Do you need an external sound card in order to be able to use your external mixer? If not can anyone explain how you get an external mixer to work? I have a phono to mini jack cable, which i thought would go from your headphone jack on the laptop into the master out at the back of the mixer? Any ideas?

  • still don't work...my computer don't find the cdj...

  • just use va virtual dj...much better result. nice players...

  • hi...i've connected the cdj but traktor don't "find" it...what can i do? sorry for my english

  • Good stuff, ive been looking for a video like this for a while.

I don't know about what most people think, but personally I'd still use control CD's. It would be nice if the cdj400 responded a little bit better rather than just being a dumb midi controller. In that case i might as well use a BCD2000.

  • I agree, I updated my cdj to v1.12 and it seems to work better, but it is still not on point. With time it may get on par, but right now I would stick with timecode if your going to use traktor in a public place.

  • Do you know if this will work with Virtual DJ? :)

  • Hi, Im not sure, I have not used Virtual Dj so I dont know how the setup is. Someone else asked me about this aswell, he could not get them to work. If it has the Learn function for Midi I would think you could manage somehow, but like I said Im not sure if they work together.
