this is a good business strategy on Roc Nation's part. Get easy, international exposure without overpaying for marketing by reeling in a Technic Guru like A-Trak. I'm blown away xO
yeah he is hip hop AND other things. just cuz he's not tied to one genre only doesn't exclude him from hip hop. 1 thing 4 sure, he better than most mainstream artist, unless you're one of the brainwashed who like songs for autistic people like "gucci bandana (mane)"
turntable-ism is hip hop u fuck, litteraly look it up in dictionary...google it... people who say stupid shit like that makes me wanna back hand them and say wake the fuck up
he makes pop. period. whatever is in the mainstream blows. hip hop, real stuff in the industry died ten years ago. the underground artists are where it is.
your a fucken dumb tool! no one ever said he was a hip hop dj! he's a turntablelist! which means he can play wut ever the fuck he wants and he does it well you fucken sell out! u dont even know what hip hop is i bet you think cuase you dress black and cool n shit that you're hip hop, guess what you're just a fad!
if u go to an A-trak show he aint spending the whole night scratchin! he plays electro n baseline more than hip hop in his own shows so there aint much scratching goin on! he is a sick dj no matter what anyone says! he aint as good as dj craze or diplo tho!
A-trak scratched for years. Him and craze are in the same crew. Battling is for a select audience. As a dj you have to play to a large audience, not just a bunch of dudes. Chicks like to dance. You would have dugg the late 90's in America if you like scratching.
A-Trak is BY FAR, the best scratch/hip-hop DJ on the scene today. I am a DJ, and can battle with the best of them, and I still give him the ultimate champ title.
He has done more than anyone to bring turntablism into the mainstream, because it went down the wrong path and became a specialist art that no one really was listening to anymore. Kanye recognized this... Props to Kanye for re-integrating the core of hip-hop (the DJ) back into the mainstream and choosing the right kid to make it work.
Turntablism as a genre is my favorite music. I wish more people felt that way. I don't want to hear a DJ just JOCK RECORDS AND PLAY THEM. I WANT TO HEAR A WHOLE NEW MUSIC.
Turntablism kinda reached it's limits in the late 90's. And yes i know whats up with scratching and juggling. The sound has it limitations and seems better suited in mix. Even in techy routines they play records. Every time i would show a-trak or craze to a regular music listener they just couldn't relate. The temp wasn't perfect or to much scratching ect. The ahhh scratch was so over done that now i just think of the Verizon ads.lol. I use to worship that sound tho.
Hate being a bummer, but it's not like scratching will ever be bigger than it was a decade ago, but we can always hope that more people will get into it and understand it and enjoy it more for what it is.
But hopefully too many people won't start scratching and mixing, don't need any more competition for gigging DJs (even though I strongly believe anyone can learn to DJ well)!
freak i agree with u but for me im 13 years old lol but im learning how to scratch etc and i showed all my friends and they were all like shocked they LOVED IT they neve heard anythining like that except the normal baby scratch if u no wat i mean and yes im vinyl

Imagine how proud A-Trak and Dave Macklovitch's parents must be. They brought two of the most kick ass musicians into this world!

He should really try to lobby more turntablism into the music he produces and works with though. If anyone's going to do it, it's him.

his justification is ignorance and denial of the unknown.

Yeah most people can't really relate to juggling. If they are not there watching it, then they can't appreciate the skill
