  • I love this song. I also love polka and waltzes... Perhaps that's why I'm so happy that this video was filmed from so close the the tuba/oboe/foghorn/whatever it is. :)

  • I think it was the timpani that .didnt....do a ....good job;;; so outta beat!

  • im in the pearland marching band, and we're doing a variation on this song for our field show. if u know what this song is about then you know its very scary, disturbing and twisted. it playes around w/ the devils tri-tone

  • A bit rushed, and the violins... Sigh. A good performance, however.

  • The Violin is tuned to E- atrocious! The fact that it's meant to be tuned to E flat is what makes the piece so idiosyncratic and genius. Rawr.

  • Bellísimos metales.

    Netto.

  • Dude, this blows......well. not really, but the solo violinist should be SHOT....the Devil's Chord is A/Eb, NOT A/E.......

  • it IS a A/Eb. I can hear that. The violin is just not optimally tuned but i also do not state it is out of tune much.

  • I agree with bige1083 The violin Should have been Tuned Probably. this video would have to be the worst i've heard of Danse macabre In a long time.

  • This is a wonderful performance! Too bad the camera wasn't centered on the orchestra - the brass and winds overpower the orchestra when they shouldn't in the video because of that.

I do have one issue with the violin soloist, though. She didn't tune down her E string to E-flat like the score says to. Consequently, her concert A/E-flat double-stops with open strings came out as A/E-natural double-stops.

  • Now this is call music! Playing their parts and theyre well toned, melody, beat n inspiring..

  • The only reason the horns stick out as much as they do is because the camera is placed right behind them, which wasn't the smart thing to do. It should be right behind the podium of where the director is. That's where the sound evens out.

  • 6:46 stop note!! horns sound so freakin good in this

  • Too bad they did not ad a grand piano...it surely adds better to the sound of the theme of the song then the horns..They overshadow the lone violinist...

  • What was up with the horns? They stuck out so much.

  • it looks like from where the camera is it's closer to the winds. that;s why it sticks out. at least they sound good though.

  • Oh, I see. When I listen to music on Youtube, I don't watch the video.

  • Lovely.

  • You are wrong, Caleb. People SHOULD be skilled at grammar and typing. Otherwise they simply make themselves look uneducated. It does not matter how smart you are. If I see you writing the kind of elementary garbage I see all over the Internet I am going to assume you are not a smart person.

  • This place needs the grammar police. Some posts are so poorly written I wonder if they are meant to be a joke. Surely no one here on YouTube could be so stupid...:P

  • OldFashionedMama: Not everyone who is skilled at grammar and typing is necessarily "smart" overall, and not every poor typist or poor writer is necessarily "stupid" overall.

You should try to get the gist of what people are trying to say to you, conceptually, instead of sitting there analyzing their spelling and grammar....that will give you a much more accurate idea of how "smart" they are.

  • fantastic!

  • the strings did great, the horns could use some work though

  • I agree, still really well done though.

  • lol i could tell where the camera was... (french horns) nice job!

  • it was played good, but there was some rhythmic problems, it's always good to listen to another pro orchestra playing a piece and then play the piece, rhymiclly together, doing this usually helps me play a piece, rather than sight reading first

  • Who wrote this?

  • Saint Saens

  • I agree, but I do believe they played well, not "good".

  • Watch out, here come the grammar police.

  • yep...

  • I feel that this excellent execution really brought out the essence of the piece. The piece is suppose to remind us how fragile our lives are and that death is imminent for every one of us.

  • Sweet! The whole thing is a beauty and very nicely executed! Please ignore these previously senseless and other nasty comments!

  • Beautiful!

The Youth Orchestra of Palm Beach County's

(my orchestra program)Philharmonic Orchestra played this. I wuz in the Symphony but this year I'm moving up to the Phil!

  • "Death's" violin is a little rushed on some parts

  • they're a soloist.... they play what they want and it's right.....

  • for a different take on this...click on the user name and select!

  • It sounds like the microphones are put behind the ochestra... like the camera

    ?8-S

  • pa rassuran la zick !

  • So beautiful. It gives me chills.

  • Same here. :) very beautiful indeed.

  • Oh sounds really nice, and yeah, it's a shame that the camera is in the back, but this recording is great, though.

:D You're right with the bows, funny! :P

  • Look at 5:45 and 5:51 some of the bows are going in the opposite direction :P

  • they're all playin on a diffrent part of the bow. ususally they coordinate that

  • This is my favourite classical piece and a great performance of it!

  • It's not classical, it's Romantic.

  • Yesh!

I'm concermistress for a Youth Symphony, and we're playing this.

It's great to know how it sounds professionally.

    =D

T'anks SO much for posting this video!

  • ARe you part of the cadet symphony orchestra of columbus?, because i went to a concert where they played that and the there was a concertmistriss.

  • Haha,no.

    xD;

I'm part of the Sacramento Youth Symphony.

    xD;

  • I'll never stop thinking about this piece of music. It's one of my favorites. :-)

  • nice treatment.

  • bravo! very well done

  • Brilliant. I DO wish that the recording wasn't positioned in the back because of the fact that the brass and woodwinds overpower the strings. OTHER than that this was absolutly fantastic. BRAVO.

  • I like the title Danse Macabre better. We payed a all string version not too long ago. It was nice, but not as nice as the full setup.

  • This is the theme music from Jonathan Creek!

  • Yeah it is, i love that show. Was suprised when i heard this video, its a great piece :)

  • Great!!!!! congratulations!!!!

  • I love to hear it and i will learn how to do it on violin

  • Dance of Death Saint-Saëns is the best!!!!!

  • The Toledo Symphony played this at halloween. They did a gret job. The concertmaster Kirk Toth was phenomenal....

  • how old was the girl that played the part of death?

  • love this song, learned it in school with postors to folow Last but not least, aing to favorites and ptting on MP3.

  • dance.....OF DEATH!!!

  • very good. =]] yay.

  • kool,...we are playing this song right now in my skool....

  • i remember playing this song in 8th grade. :] It's so much fun to play. You guys did AWESOME. better than we did. x]

i wish the trumpet or the other band instruments didn't play in this though. it kinda ruined the whole orchestra balance.

  • That's actually more because of the placement of the recording device than the inclusion of the band instruments.

  • quite an ambitious tempo, i must say. our youth orchestra at MYS did this last season- and they sounded phenominal, just phenominal. they didn't go quite this fast though. i like the approach though. as far as the balance in the video sound, the brass were definately overbearing (just in the audio for the video- i'm sure not the performance itself). The strings were sawing away beautifully, btw. Very impressive.

  • Ah! Danse Macabre indeed.

  • I hate having to preform in concerts. My bands always did a thousand times better during practices than at concerts. I blame the uncomfortable outfits we are made to wear. B P

  • My bands playing this song but its not as good without the strings

  • what is up w/ the trumpets f u to them and tell them plz from Hannah

  • Trumpets are cool :)

Not saying I'm hating on violas, because I play viola. I, too, played this song.

  • how long have u been playing I have been playing for 8 years

  • 5 years. I'm only a freshman in high school, but I do think I could play this piece.

  • I love this song I played it in 8th grade Hi I am Hannah from Guilford CT and were r u from? How opld r u? I am 16 and what insterment do u play? I play viola

  • hey...

i play viola... i've only been playing since 5th grade.. (5 years). i'm playing this now with my high school orchestra

  • do u enjoy it

  • wow, sitting right next to the french horn are we?

  • Nice, you guys did an awesome job rendering this dark piece.

  • Brass instruments were sometimes out of time...

    it was good...

  • nervouse in the first few barrs but bravo ,well done ,i tip my cap to you

  • wow, that's well done. I can't play this, I am a violinstarter. It's a pity that I hear more the trumpets than the violins.

  • To be honest, you might be thinking french horns. I believe, because of the common orchestral layout, the camera is situated right next to the horns.

  • best piece ever written

  • Excelent! Bravo!

  • El sonido es muy malo pero ellos tocan muy bien, esta pieza es de mis favoritas y me hubiera gustado escucharla con mejor calidad.

  • Mr. Kuutti's youth synphony is better (ga) still good job

  • Wow! Ive played Violin for 8 years.. im 19 years old. And this peice has been my favorite since 7th grade.. i played it in 11th.. great piece. Good Job.

ASU? As in Arizona State? Wow.. I live in Mesa. Im planning on going to ASU.
