@Tukarama Yeah, I was mad to see it go, but that doesn't mean I'm going to let that blind my judgement on The Mummy's Revenge; it's one of the best indoor rollercoasters in existence. If you still want to be mad about a bad replacement, take a sit on Stitch's Great Escape. Replacing Alien Encounter with bathrooms would have still been better than Stitch.
omg lmao at the end 4:30- "Passengers narrowly escaped disaster at the hands on King Kong!"(everyone inside- "doo dee doo, look at that silly monkey, la la la") hahahaha.
I can still remember the banana breath when you get up close and personal with him. The last time I rode this ride was back in 2001. They just don't make them like they use too.
Man, this brings back memories. My mom loved this ride.
I know some of these rides take a lot to maintain, but you would think that Universal could find a way to update these so that the younger generations don't forget the classics. If they can recreate Hogsmeade down the most minute details, surely these rides deserve a little love.
@klwwe23 totally agree. I never got to ride this ( I was 3 in 2002) If this could be remade somehow, I might visit the park more often. In my opinion they don't have anything like these rides anymore. It's sad.
now they r taking out jaws): i cried when i found out. i love that ride. sadly i was a bit too young to remember this one....but i have a very vague memory of riding it when i was maybe 4 or 5
S means right? Next ride they'll shut down is T2!!!! That ride/show was the first of its kind and that'll be the next ride universal will probably shut down!
I'm pretty sure this tram operator is acting like this on purpose, last day of ride, sure he was having fun...there are some bad spielers but this I think is intentional. lol. He's doing the biit like Troll 2 or something...
To the person who posted this video. My mom worked in USO from 1995 to 2005 and we loved this ride. We were so mad when they closed it. I know how you feel.
@TELEVISIONARCHIVES@TELEVISIONARCHIVES it was because it had to many technical difficulties, and all you have to do is buy 1 ticket for the whole park and you can ride all the rides you want.
i kinda remmber this ride, i was fairly young though. i love the mummy but can't really tell which is better, i remmber being scared of king king LOL!
The first time I rode this ride I was like 6 or 7, I remember how scared I was haha. I wish I would be able to go on it again. The Mummy ride is mediocre at best, this was pure genius. Too bad it took too much work and money to maintain.
i really miss this ride. i hate that it's gone.i didn't even lik the movie but i loved this ride and faithfully got on it every time I went to Orlando. i'd take this over the mummy any day. thanx so much for posting this. at least i can relive my childhood thru this video.
King Kong, you will never be forgotten you are locked in many enjoyed riders hearts forever, i wish i was born then to ride you before you were taken down...... I will be 1 of many that will miss you alot and i know this ride is locked in my hesart forever! I LOVE U KING KONG! :( MISS THIS RIDE...
Dam they are stuffed in that tram, it's like nobody can move. lol. I never got to ride it but it looks like a very fun ride, I just don't think it was a busy day on the ride so it wasn't real hyped except everyone on line they cramped it one tram.
I loved this ride. The Kong ride based on the Peter Jackson film was an abomination. Peter Jackson's Kong film period was an abomination. They should have kept the ride based on the 1976 film.
i miss this!!! i was the last person besides my dad and sisters to ever ride that :) we got to go on it with no one else, cause we knew the people cause we were litterally there every weekend. lol i miss that :/

Thank you so much for posting this video! The day I went to Universal to find they had taken this ride out was a very sad day indeed! Thanks again for the memories. :.o)
I am going to Orlando in September, and we are going to Universal Studious, so is the King Kong ride not here anymore? and also, is the underground earthquake not there anymore either? thanku :]
I kinda wish they would have kept this ride. It isn't as technological as the newer rides but it's still A clasic. But, I also wish they could have built revevnge of the mummy in another building or expand the park.
King Kong was replaced with the Revenge of the Mummy in Universal Orlando. In LA, there going to make King Kong 3d 360...or something like that...
On a side note; I was going through albums in my closet and saw and old map and photo and Kong was one of the main attractions. It was dumb, but I sure miss this ride.
@ctotheairhail King Kong was brought back to USH as a 3-D 360 movie to replace the original that burned to the ground in the fire on June 1st, 2008 on the studio backlot tour. Actually, the new King Kong at USH opens today- their Youtube page confirms it.
Well I can see it was good in its day maybe, but with modern technology they HAD to replace it or rework it. They chose the former but the latter may have been interesting.
hey a.k.a. teddy here i have a long responds to the king kong ride first i love it and y they had to take it down and i was little when ride it that happen 6years ago teddys crying
Good riddance. Rode it once, LONG ago, and we could not belive how cheesey all the building, and the floor...PAINTED to look like a river and stuff. Absolutely pathetic.
This ride has so many memories for me as well. I used to ride it all the time when I was a kid. It was one of my favorites. Shame that they tore it down.
OMG i remeber when i rode this!! it was soo awesome! they should have lefted it here. AND i remember when they opened the mummy ride i was tricked into riding it because i HATE rollercoasters and it was HORRIBLE!!
I was there that very night, but they wouldn't let me ride it. They told me only certain special people could ride it because it was the last night. So upset.
they're coming out with a new one in california and now they're putting one FINALLY in florida i vacation there every year so i can finally test this thing out!
The first time i went to universal me and my family rode this sooo many times we couldnt stop then like..4 years later they wanna remove it and put earthquake there? like seriously.. earthquake or whatever it is sucks so bad i miss this.
@xMeganMichellex are you talking about the one in Florida? Mummy replaced King Kong. Disaster replaced Earthquake. Actually Disaster is the same ride just a few upgrades and a fresh coat of paint. The ride itself is virtually the same and it's in the same building. But if your referring to USH...then I take all that back lol.
Actually, they replaced Kong with Revenge of the Mummy. Earthquake is a separate attraction which opened with the park in 1990, but what re-themed to "Disaster" a couple years ago.
i wrote my name with a sharpie on those graffitied stone walls in the beginning these was so much stuff written on those walls it made the wait much quicker lol now that im older i wish i could get back out to Universal studios sometime
Its Not the original ride , its a new hi-tech one in universal studios hollywood , King Kong : Escape From Skull Island 360 , its called , its in construction at the moment :)
Honestly, I think replacing this ride with the Mummy was a good idea. Lets be real, the Mummy has more thrills and is more high tech. Now Back to the future with the Simpsons... I think that was stupid, there they just changed the theme and not the ride type itself... like with the Mummy.
I just got back from WDW and Universal Studios 2 days ago. I looked for this ride and was disappointed it was gone. I rode this a couple times before but that was about 10 years ago. I looked forward to it again but thanks to youtube I can relive the memories. Thanks for posting!
I used to get lost in the sets of rides like this and wished I could get out and explore the city. Go inside those apartments etc. The new rides don't catch the imagination the same way
I rode King Kong (years ago, back when Universal first opened in Orlando). I could not believe how boring it was, let along how ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS the images within the ride were. The floor was just painted to represent water, a city...and nothing was 3d. King Kong, himself looked okay. The only really funny thing was the entire waiting line area smelled like bananas...in an attempt to get you think he was eating lots of them. Silly, really.
King Kong was a very boring ride, but it was fun, nonetheless. I'm happy I got to ride on it at least once. Like someone else said, it was one of the few nostalgic rides you could go on and not be knocked around every five seconds in. It was just some amusement.
I can't remember the details but I believe Kong was going to be more animated then it ended up being. I watched them build the ride and I remember someone telling me this and that was going to happen during the ride. But it never ended up in the ride.
King Kong Dosent Look That Good But I carnt question it because i havent been on it :/ But I love the mummy ride its great better iif it was longer tho. I think universal studios should buit a gigantic ride like a really big steep ride ino they ahve just buit 'Hollywood rip raw rocket ride' But we need one like Shikra From Busch Gardens Tampa Bay <3 my opinon Louise From Uk <3
Well considering the fact that the BTTF ride took place in 2015 (only a few years from now) they had to change something. I was super pissed when they got rid of it (BTTF is my all time favorite movie) but The Simpson's ride is actually pretty cool.
well universal cant really add more rides because all those buildingd, decorations, and all those studios take up all the space. Plus, universal is in a limited space when you think about it. Thats why both park(Universal studios and Islands of Adventure) are so small compared to all the other parks in Florida. But, they somehow manage to be the best parks in America and the World!
I am so glad I took my kids on this before it got shut down. And we bought the picture too :)
And if taking this out wasn't bad enough they replaced it with the Mummy! Worst ride ever... of any park!

Oh, well.

I can't remember the details but I believe Kong was going to be more animated then it ended up being. I watched them build the ride and I remember someone telling me this and that was going to happen during the ride. But it never ended up in the ride.

I take it you have only been to Universal?

It's the Mummy Ride. The Disaster Ride was the Earthquake Ride.
TELEVISIONARCHIVES 2 years ago
No. Disaster use to be Earthquake. Same ride, just different pre-shows. The Mummy took up the whole kong building. Disaster did nothing to kong.
sideshowmatt19 2 years ago
That's what i said. The Disaster Ride was the Earthquake ride before they changed it. I should know.
