  • Thanks for the video. Like it. Every little knowledge we acquire from professionals is a one step forward to be just like them. Thanks for posting it.

  • Nice video thanks, I learned this decades ago and it really helps. Please make videos without the unbearable 35 second intro. Makes it look like a cheap home made video and less likely hold watchers. Thanks for posting and your time though.

  • Again, a bunch of amature wannabe's commenting when they have no skills. Great video and for all you wannabe's you should listen and go back to the basics once in a while it may help you when you go down range and shoot so you wont look like a fool shooting. We notice you when you start shooting. trust me.

  • im not sure if this question has been answered yet or not but does this exercise work for rifles as well?

  • 276 people are drug dealers..

  • LMAO "You and you alone are responsable........" The bottom feeding lawyers prove that wrong every day. Good job, good info. Thanks for the video but I had to laugh at that one part.

  • whoot whoot! drill drill drill. Just like firing a rifle. Drill drill drill.

  • Yeah, if you're not pointing at the target anymore you need to adjust your stance, but if youre sights arent aligned anymore you need to adjust your grip.

  • Hey man I'm 16 and buying a rifle soon, I was looking at a .22 a few weeks ago, my dad just needs to write the test to aquire the proper license. Hes scheduled to write it on monday, then we can purchase it. Your vids helped me a lot, even though some of them are for pistols which are classified as restricted in Canada so my dad would have to write another test and get another license. Just wanted to tell you that. My dad has been shooting for years but sold his guns before you had to register.

  • Comment number 101... great work Coach. Guys like you help us guys and girls learn how to be a better shooter and it is appreciated even if a few non-thinking bozo's say stupid things. Just keep on posting and helping and 99% will appreciate your hard work.

  • Kinda a dumb question, but you can do this without a gun right? Or is it better to hold the gun you actually shoot?

  • @sungwei9 Actually, no. You need to have a gun so you can align the sights on the target. You want to reach a point where you are getting the sight on the target without having to do this exercise. So you need to be precise with your alignment when you are learning where you natural point of aim is.

  • @shootingcoach Thanks, that makes sense.

  • I just found your videos. Thank you for posting them. I will be purchasing my first Handgun around Christmas. I've been shooting all of my life, but Ive never had any "formal" training, so thanks for posing these up. They've already helped me with some [practice sessions at the range.

  • excellent advice, will definatley take it on board.

  • its basically like youre an army man with a base on his feet

  • the from aim should be ON the target or under it when the tip of the plastc is the place ill hit?

  • can you tell how to hold a pistol while using the c.a.r. system? i have been looking on the internet and no videos exists

  • @sawyerbobby

Sorry, but I don't see any value in C.A.R., so I won't be doing any videos on it.

  • @shootingcoach oh,okay too bad for me i guess hahaha

  • Great Tips. before someone opens their mouths they should try them, We use them to train Bullseye shooting. Iwill bring the score up and lett you "read the Target "better for errors from firnign function.

  • you make some very good videos, thank you and keep up the great work! these have helped me a lot.

  • Great lesson!

  • Great info.. thanks for taking the time to do this.

    (New Shooter)

  • Good video on a simple 90• sweep from L to R to get a point of aim. That's what my range master taught, my SGT taught and a good friend taught me. Now if some dumbass "12GA LA" has his finger on the trigger with his eyes close and turning 360• screaming I'm going to be a gangster when I grow up... Maybe you shouldn't own a gun. Oh and please Spay and Neuter 12GA LA, we don't want him reproducing... thanks

  • Been shooting a long time and just tryed this , worked pretty darn good , Thanks !

  • Are the principles the same with a rifle?

  • @12GaugeLosAngeles

Whew, you sir, are an arrogant buffoon.

EVERYTHING in this video is common sense.! Just because YOU have an idea of "something better" ... well, keep it to your self IF you can't add to the discussion, instead of denigrating a tactic that even a 3 year old can understand. Way too stupid for a professional, my friend, WAAAAY too stupid!

  • how does one become a firearms instructor, im studying criminal justice in school and was wondering how one does this?

  • =) great vid I tried that and my shot groups were pretty damn great and pretty damn tight

  • I'm trying to teach my GF "Natural Point of Aim." You teach it better than I do, and this video is a godsend. Thank you sir. NOW she gets it, even though I said many of the same things you do -- I guess it's all in the presentation.

  • Pay no mind to these naysayers they are internet experts with no true expertise or substance to their opinion. I recently watched a Nutnfancy video where he mentioned that people who talk negative towards a Youtube video (especially shooting) do not have the right to do so unless they post their own videos to express their opinion in a professional way. And how often do you see THAT! never. Thanks for offering all of your drills and training on Youtube. Keep doin' what your doin'!

    -Albin

  • Superb. Clear, concise and the instruction leads naturally to combat tactical shooting, where the sights may not be acquirable at speed (for us regular shooters). Thank you!

  • @tim84k10 Just stop breathing so your stupidity dosn't travel on to your offspring/

  • @tim84k10 " Shooting without looking at the sights is idiotic and shows that you really don't know what you're doing." -- Yeah, tell that to Col. Rex Applegate, Fairbairn, and Sykes. Ever heard of "point shooting" -- do you even know what that is or how it's used? Ever actually had to defend yourself with a firearm? Or even carried one for real in preparation for it? After your first one (if you survived), you'd change your tune unless you're really dense.

  • very useful sir. Thanks for posting this videos.

  • Thank you for this learning video. I appreciated the information.

  • Rio Salado?

  • I don't think it was loaded. It sounded very high pitched and clean when he cocked the sled. Only the sled made sounds when pulled back and forth. A Bullet makes a sound when its transported into the chamber. Im German so maybe all the words are wrong, i translated some words 1:1 hoping it means the same :)

  • Oh, I should read on before posting...

@Shootingcoach: I enjoyed your other clips too. But I didn't realized you are the one in the video, I thought you ripped those somewhere. I Hope to find help with an training schedule of some sort. I often don't know when to practice what. Even the order of training units I cannot figure well. I am not improving much anymore. I got no results on google. Maybe wrong spelling or just wrong words :)

  • Aaaah, not my day. I should have looked up your website first, sorry.

  • where you're using "Sled", the word you're looking for is "slide". pretty good otherwise

  • @steelhelmetleast

Yeah you translated pretty well. Don't Germans learn English from an early age?

  • Well thank you. But school english does not cover the shooting related vocabulary. There I have to guess. Because of that someone told me (some posts below) that the "Schlitten" wich is the german word for "sled" on a weapon is "slide" in english. So the 1:1 translation doesn't work all the time.

  • no it doesnt germans and dutch like me learn from cartoons at young ages ^^ i hate translated stuff tho sounds retarded compare jap naruto with english u see wut i mean

  • so is there any possibilities that your point of aim will not be consistent?

Thanks for the video, I love learning new skills!

  • And you have shown your ass "bro". If you had been watching you would have seen that I didn't load the gun. I cleared it. Maybe if you paid attention with your mind instead of your ego, you would learn something. Oh and I was dumbass enough to be sponosred by companies like Springfield Armory, Safariland and Dillon. I also have been training military and LE agencies worldwide for several years. You have your own opinions, but I know that mine are professional.

  • The only real "lame demonstration" is your demonstrating how to engage your mouth without engaging your eyes and brain first.

  • obviously you don't need me to tell you you're doing it right, but i did notice that whilst swinging (in a controlled arc that couldn't intelligently be mistaken for "swaying") left to right your weapon never left a decidedly downrange position. anyone in your danger field would be the turd having gone downrange without having the range cleared and cold first!

  • haha thats actually really clever! by the way, this excersice has actually cured my curse of hitting right of my intended target. thanks man. its amazing how something so simple can make a huge impact.

  • I find your videos very informative... thank you and keep up the good work!

12gaugelosangeles is a keyboard warrior nothing more.

  • @shootingcoach hahaha you tell em coach, you should come by ft.bliss and teach our weapons squads how to properly engage targets with there berettas, "beacuse the nco's dont know shit on instructing anything but pushups and react to contact " :P

  • @shootingcoach will you be my coach? lol..i wish

  • you're stupid... If that gun were loaded I would have wished he'd have swayed it in you're direction...man you are so frigg'n dumb... stupid!!!! you're a complete frigg'n moron!!!! You're probably the worst shooter on the planet... I bet you hold your pistols sideways when you shoot, you dumb frigg'n dummy!!! You stupid idiot!!! do yourself a favor and take you're post off. You are so dumb!!!! this guy probably is the damn rangemaster!!! gosh I know we're allowed free speech, but for you?!?!?!?

  • And another thing 12Gauge...this guy is not your frigg'n "bro." I'm sure he has no desire to be it, either!!! I wouldn't want to be...

  • @12GaugeLosAngeles: Well, seeing as how you're from Los Angeles, I guess this gaffe is forgivable -- your experience with real firearms must be very limited except for the movies. If you actually had been paying attention, the move he did was a chamber check to verify the weapon is clear, NOT loading it. Second, did you notice WHERE he was? In a shooting box on a COMPETITION RANGE -- someplace you've probably never been, so you would not understand "downrange" there. Go take a lesson.

  • @12GaugeLosAngeles

    'He loads the gun'

    He didn't load the gun.

He performed a chamber check, which is done on a 1911 by pulling the slide PARTIALLY back to examine whether or not a round is chambered through the ejection port.

He was making sure the pistol wasn't loaded before engaging the POA drill.

  • @12GaugeLosAngeles

'Now imagine you are the rangemaster, and you find a turd swaying a loaded gun left to right with his eyes closed'

Except the gun wasn't loaded and "shootingcoach" did not break 180 when rotating left and right in the POA drill while also keeping the muzzle pointed down range.

And, by the looks of it, the range was cold (no shooting occurring on the firing line, otherwise the range is hot).

  • @12GaugeLosAngeles

'i see the attempt in this lame demonstration, but these are your opinions and by now way any professional advice.Go read another shooting book bro'

Then if you know a better way, kindly cite your instruction for finding natural point of aim.

Even Lee Paige is more "professional" than you.

  • @12GaugeLosAngeles Go home and lock yourself in a closet forever and a day.

  • and why does everyone present a full target when they practice shooting?

  • i dont know about this.....gonna try it today will update....

  • i'm right handed, but firing lefty with 2handed weapons works best for me

  • i fire a rifle with my left side and pistol with both arms

  • How about bending your knees, instead of moving your feet back and forth. Is that something you can incorporate. Or maybe a combination of the two. Your thoughts?

  • You want to move your feet because the idea is to find the position where your body feels natural while pointing at the target. Bending your knees only changes the postion of your body from the knees up, you want to change your entire body position. Once your NPA becomes second nature, you can orient your stance to the hardest or easiest shot in a string or whatever you want.

  • Shootingcoach, when I shoot far out like 50ft do I need to aim higher or lower on the red dot? Or do I aim exactly at the red dot? I can shoot 30ft hitting in the middle of the target. Or does it depend on the handgun? Thanks

  • with a 9mm i'd say you don't have to shoot any lower or higher, even for 50ft.

  • 50 feet is not far. Your point of aim shouldn't change.

  • @shootingcoach PS: Love your Mozambique Drill Video.

  • Excellent video(s)!

I wish the Army would incorporate this piece of instruction in their CQM doctrine.

I find the chest square/shoulder square stance to rigid, uncomfortable, and unnatural.

More emphasis on establishing a Soldiers natural point of aim should pay off well in accuracy and fluidity.

  • Be safe, have fun, shoot :p :D

  • Good work you have posted, Shootingcoach. Do you have anything on correcting stance when one is cross-dominant? Thanx in advance!

  • The simple way is:

Don't change your stance, just turn your head (without tilting it) so your dominant eye is aligned with the sights.

  • Thanks, that's what I was doing in general, but I'm rather new and several ppl commented that it's not the best way. Because in bullseye my shots are usually in black but in upper left quadrant when I do mistakes - they say it's because of my condition ;) I'll keep following your advices! All the best!

  • if your using your right hand to hold the gun which eye do you use to aim at the target and which eye do you close?

  • You should use your dominant eye no matter which one it is. Always shoot with both eyes open.

  • Wow, that's actually really helpful. Thank you!

  • I've never been comfortable in a totally open stance, yet with left foot almost totally over and about 18" in front of the right, I fatigue after 50 or so rounds of practice. However, I am most accurate standing this way. I've never been able to get comfortable though with an open stance. Any suggestions? My line of site is fine, so that's not an issue.

  • Any change from something you have been doing for a while will feel uncomfortable. Sometimes we succeed in spite of, not because of our efforts. Stand naturally, the way you would stand if you had to stand for a few hours. Then relax. Use the finding your NPA technique to adjust your feet until you have a good, relaxed stance. Try it for at least 10 range trips before you decide whether it works or not.

  • OK. I'll give it a shot. (no pun intended)

  • thank you so much for all of these videos! I know watching is no substitute for doing, but I feel like by watching them, I'm saving hundreds in instruction costs!

  • Great informative videos. Keep it up!

  • wow this whole time i thought it would be better to close your off eye but I took what you said with just having both eyes open still using one eye and it works better.

  • ok.. i shoot left-handed. but my most dominant eye is my right eye. if i aim with both of my eyes open its mostly focused on the right eye, and my shots is off, but then when i clse my right eye to use my left eye my shots are way better. I just wanted to know if its bad to close one eye while aiming?

  • It's better to shoot with both eyes open. Don't close your right eye, just turn your head so your left eye lines up with the sights. Cross dominance is not that unusual.

  • i cant do that, my right eye automatically focuses in on the front sight, even if i turn my head.

  • Then you're not turning your head. You cannot line up both eyes with the sights, you will see double. Turn your head so that the left eye is in line with the sights (close your right eye if you need to, then reopen it when your left eye is aligned).

  • ok thanks for the tips coach.

  • dood....sounds like were in the same boat. To overcome my "crosseye"...dominance..I just bring the pistol to the left a bit more so i can "focus"...my left eye on the sight....even though im shooting right handed. Good luck man..and be safe :)

    Sig

Good to know im not the only one in that boat.

Sounds like we have the same "problem"..but in reverse. Do you fire a rifle right handed naturally..or left handed? Just curious.

    :)

  • its always my left hand.

  • I fire a rifle with my right hand and a pistol with my left.

  • same here. i am left handed, but i learned to shoot long guns....particularly the M16 right handed in the Marine Corps. It is ergonomically perfect for a right hander. still shoot pistols lefty though.

  • I have that same problem only that Im right handed but left eye dominant, I just started on shooting sport, Im glad I learned all about that eye issue, because I notice that when I shoot with one eye after few minutes my eyes get tired and it affects my accuracy, Im learning to shoot with two eyes open but with the 5 row of metal plates sometimes Im seeing ghost image and I tend to blink to eliminate that problem, I wonder what else I can do so that it wont affect my target aqusition speed.

  • lmao dude i'm the exact opposite. i shoot with my right and blind in my right eye so have to use my left which sucks cause i have to learn guns all over again.

  • Here's a cracker for ya. I write with right hand, kick with left foot, shoot rifle like a lefty and shoot hundguns right handed. Im also left eye dominant. All this feels very natural. Works out well for rifle shooting and it's not a problem for pistols either, but it is odd. For pistols I just bring the gun over to the left a bit and it woks out. Have you seen this before?

Wonderful mature videos BTW...keep it up!

    Sig

  • I must've missed it, but did he say "close your eyes"?

  • Yes he did, but he never says to shoot while your eyes are closed.

  • Thanks coach, but...that intro with the middle eastern music kinda cracked me up about where you might have been going with that

  • Thanks coach. I have never heard it explained quite like that before. It was very helpful to me.

  • Its funny, I have done this with my AR-15 many times. For some reason I have never done this with my pistol.

    Great video!

  • same here I've never considered doing it with a handgun but it makes sense

  • love how you stress safety and it's sad that you need to put disclaimers in, but understandable. Very well done video, Sir.

  • Very good advise. Finally someone on Youtube that actually knows how to shoot.

After you find your natural point of aim and do this ALOT it will become "muscle memory" and you'll do it by instict every time you fire a weapon.

***watch my gun videos too !*** I waste lots of ammo!

  • shootingcoach, if you don't mind my asking, what else do you do? Are you a LEO or just a professional firearms instructor? Also, are you making good money with your instructional DVDs?

  • this dud kickz ass

  • this will help me in airsoft a lot.

  • Great information. I've only thought about getting a natural point of aim with rifles.

  • Allways a 5/5. Well done indeed.

  • Well done!

  • I like the "please don't shoot yourself in the ass" disclaimer with the funky sitar tune.

  • your are a natural teacher!!! congratulations!!!

    great chanel!! and videos!!
