  • hi ms sara :D we need to learn origami for the cover page of our ntbk in math so i tried googling about origami . by chance, i saw your video in a site and i tried it(its about origami scorpion). i find it hard since of course i'm basically just a beginner in this field but i hope to learn more about it and also to successfully complete this paper scorpion. thanks for this video and i hope you make more of this interesting origamis :D

  • I have been practicing origami for a couple of years I am familiar with terminology, but...the first minute is confusing, have no idea what "this one here goes here and this should be done here " while flipping the paper and such. Many of your videos have been useful but I gave up on this one. Sorry to say

  • you're *ahem* assets .... are kinda putting me off. But in a good way lol

  • can you make a tuturial of the wedge flexi cube because that one is bad screen and i cant hear you

  • I know this is a lot to ask of you but have you thought of making a remake? :)

  • @AdamSara my wrapping paper is so glossy. but i can't pick on those 2 origami scorpions. but what will i choose? the scorpion varileg, or the origami scorpion in your video.

  • robert lang knows indeed the most complicated way to twist a sqare o_O

  • I think this model is great! I know it is quite hard to show some folds on camera. You are explainig everthing perfectly. If you have time, I suggest you should maybe redo it just like your recent videos! You don't have to I'm just saying. Don't do it if it is bothering you.

    Thanks

  • I seriously don't understand your instructions no matter how many times a reply lols

  • if you have mede this then you can make anything in his book my favourite was the ant so why do you fear.

  • thats treu =P

  • i think tadashimori is a little eaysier to make, and it's a bit more realistic(not that this vid is bad it's great)

  • @frunlakiso2 If you compare my old videos to his, yes, definitely. I think if you compare my more recent videos with his - I think it's a closer call. ;)

  • i can do it now but two years ago it was like ??? and iv been folding for five years and if you pass this you can pass anything

  • HOLY ****

I'm not a begginer but I can't understand what are you doing... it's so confusing and frustrating...You cover all your folds with your hands and we can see anything... you don't fold everything in front of the camera and we are supossed to guess what is going next... the quality is too low and the color of the paper is not uniform and is difficult to see the creases.... after 2 hours I give up.

I like your channel (and you) but you have to improve the tutorials (see jonakashima) gBye

  • @Blackwargreymon You should check my more recent videos. This one is over 3 years old, and I agree, the quality is bad. But I guess it's better to have *something* rather than nothing at all. That's why I decided to keep the old videos online.

  • @AdamsSara thanks for the reply... you're right, that's better... I'm going to check your more recent videos for sure ;). By the way... I didn't try to sound rude. It was only a constructive criticism (besides, this is not my first language :p) Good bye! And thanks a lot for your work Sara n_n

  • @Blackwargreymon No worries, I didn't feel attacked. I just wanted to clarify that the old videos aren't representative of my more recent work. ;)

  • @Blackwargreymon

Probably beacause you can't do it! But I think this video is great!

  • @fairfresh ok.... get a life troll... I was talking with Sara (read her comments below), not with you!... I can fold Kamiya's Bahamut and Phoenix and I don't need to prove anything to a random youtube troll =).

  • what size paper do you suggest to use in my first try

  • @rithwikh3 I'd start with a square that has a side length of at least 24cm (for the first try).

  • why did you use so big paper? That we can see it better?

  • I got it! Thanks so much. Now for the next 6 parts :D

  • quise decir dovlado

  • ya lo tiene dublado

  • @shadipt que es dublado

  • sooososoos confusing

  • what is the smallest size paper you've folded this from?

  • @godfreak100 15cm square (6 inches).

  • I have to do a 3D figure of an anthropod and I want to do a scorpion. Is there a special type of paper I need or can I use any picture.

  • @toda9008 I mean can I use any type of paper

  • @toda9008 Any type? No. If you use plasticy wrapping paper you'll have a really hard time. If you use card stock, it'll be really tough, too. But most paper types will work well. Try to stick to relatively light paper, and paper that actually feels like paper and you're ok. :)

  • @toda9008 I'd suggest at least for your first try to use slightly larger paper. Other than that you can use most paper types, for example a large sheet of printer paper.

  • nice boobies ;>

anyway, you should try the scorpion from origami insects 2, this one looks too abstract and misshapen even if folded nicely, the one in vol.2 is much more lifelike. or that nguyen guy's scorpion, that's even better. of course these are much more challenging

  • im 11 and i want to now is ter REALY hard folds in it cos i want to make it (I LIKE SCORPIANS) :D

  • @Qazpunk2234 The model is definitely for advanced folders. Also, the video is hard to follow in at least some parts. I may look into making a new video on this model, which is clearer, but I have no plans to do this anytime soon. You can give it a try, but please only do so if you feel quite confident in your folding skills.

  • if i even tempted to try this and ever got dun..it will only be touched by me ..if sumone messes it up me and them have some SERIOUS ISSUES!

  • good lord this looks scary hard

  • WTF I CANT UNDERSTAND ANYTHING U SUCK

  • so what exactly are the paper measurements

  • @55lalalalala55 You have to start with a square sheet of paper. It doesn't matter which size you start with, although for your first try you shouldn't use too small paper. I recommend using at least a 25cm / 10in square for your first try.

  • @AdamsSara cool thanks!

  • i dont get it

  • can u plzz make it over be4 u start 2 fold i NEED 2 know this model PLZZZZZZZZ

  • I would like to say that I love every single one of your videos. They are amazingly thorough and easy to follow! Don't listen to the crap that some people post on your videos because chances are they have never done origami before and are starting out with something like this.

  • u should do things more clearly

    can't see what your doin

  • u shoulden't do all the folds first cause i don't get how u fold it

  • yeah i agree too

  • you can only buy it

  • i mean diagrams

  • where can i find the digrams

  • Diagrams are in the book "Origami Insects and Their Kin" by Robert J. Lang.

  • have u made the pine sawyer or the samurai helmet beetle from the book yet?

  • do u know how to make origami yoda or samarai helmet beetle if so maks vids please

  • At 0:53 you fold the previous fold to the diagonal fold in Step one

  • im confused

  • nice to see there are other origami pros out there but i dislike insects, i made a hedgehog and it takes more than 4 hrs from one piece of newspaper

  • difficult :D

  • Ohhhhhhhhhh SHiT fuckin 7 parts thats bull!

  • UUGGGHH!!! -rips out hair- I lost you at 0:53 because you pointed to a line that you never showed us how to crease! D: I completely lost minnd power after that.

  • Oh wait, nvm lol I forgot to use brain power :D

  • your totally right!!

  • can you please tell me what the size of paper are you using ( i know it doesnt really matter but i was just wondering) Thanks

  • Hey, could you make a tutorial for a Kamiya Satoshi divine dragon or another cool dragon please!

  • does wrapping paper have properties like origami paper, better or worse, if worse by how much

  • There are so many different kinds of wrapping paper. Most wrapping paper is unsuitable. Especially if it's plasticy, don't go for it. But some wrapping is really good. In Germany, for example, you can get wrapping paper that's Kraft paper. It's excellent to work with, is duo colour, super cheap - what else could you wish for? So the answer is: "It depends". Try creasing a small corner. That one test crease can show you whether the paper is suitable for your project or not.

  • Sara, if i use a 5x5 cm piece of paper is it too small for the scorpion?

  • It'd be a challenge for sure, but I'm quite sure it's possible.

  • I'd like to attempt this project sometime, is what you're using like wrapping paper or something?

  • Yes, it's wrapping paper.

  • you see.. you have those DIAGONAL LINES in the "MARKED STAR". How do you know where do you mark them?? I don't understand that part so it makes me fail while coliding the model.

  • I can't find a mention of a "marked star" in the video. Do you mean the diamond shape? You need to make all the precreasing I breeze through in the beginning, then you should have all the creases necessary. I agree that the model isn't explained as well as it should have been, but with a bit of patience I think you can master it.

  • can u do dis Scorpion on regular copy paper?

  • Yes, you can. It'll be a bit more difficult to fold with than with thinner, crisper paper, and it won't look as pretty - but for a test fold it's absolutely ok.

  • im attempting to do this origami, but those ..... are destructing..

  • thank you so much sara adam. because of you i have been learning so much about origami. ive seen all of your videos. i really love my new hobbie. i have been trying to get the jack in the box but it seems impossible. can you please make a video on it. im learning the scorpion right now. your very talented. please please keep making videos. everyday i look for someting new. keep us posted. your new friend and fan

    israel carromero

  • do you can make a guide on the tarantula of robert J lang?? the tarantula is very beautiful

  • spiders are my favorite creatures. they intrigue me so much. i was thinking of buying the book that contains this model. hopefully adamssara can post a tutorial (with permission of course)

  • Comment removed

  • hey adamsara, i have a question, can i also make a scorpion on a simple bond paper???

  • love it, hey please post a tutorial hot to make a crab or a spider, thanks, great video

  • hello you can make a guide care the tarantola of robert J. lang? I jam in the passage which goes from the 17 to the 19. thanks thousands

  • thanx i done it now!!!

  • stuck at 7:17

  • The folding sequence is shown again after 7:17, maybe that helps.

  • sorry

    980+ folds lol!

  • big paper for a little cute scorpion...badass video..800+ folds oO

  • 2 things: 1: I see that on your final model (not from the tutorial) was used with red foil. Is that wrapping paper? If not, where did you get that? 2: Is there a specific size of paper you would need to do this?

  • The picture of the two scorpions in the beginning were folded from 15cm squares of foil-backed paper. The sped-up video I also posted shows me folding a large scorpion from wrapping paper. As to paper sizes, the smallest paper I've used is 15dm squares, and the largest is shown in the sped-up video. I imagine you could use smaller or larger paper still, but the easiest size to work with is probably around 30cm / 12 inches.

  • ok thanks :)

  • where can u get these huge paper

  • Try wrapping paper.

  • this is the most confusing longest video i have ever seen but its the only one of this scorpion

  • 1:00 is difficult

  • It's called a twist fold, when she collapses the model. it's used a lot when folding roses, if you can do a little one of those, then you can do a big one easy! :)

  • Please muesta well the steps as(like) in your other nideo ke the chamber(camera) endoque arrives to do the scorpion please

  • LOL, en what idioma are tu parle??

  • I do not understand well the folds of the minute 1:00 this fold of the corner

  • It is easy...basicaly this is done just to create the square in the center...which in turn is the one that will lead you all the way to the end... :)

  • Well, i get it.!

  • How do u get that tab on the diamond thing at 3:38?

  • 7 parts to this vid...its obviously a very time consuming and complex model. So she obviously can't explain it in as much detail as some of the other models she demonstrates.

  • you dont explain good enough ///

    but still good scorpion:)

  • LLAAMMEE!!! way of explaining WOMAN!!!!

  • good job but you didnt explain one step..you didn't tell us when and how we can hold and divide the paper in 3 parts, then you miss so many steps but nice job..

  • no lo puedo hacer :-(

  • wow pretty ;-)

  • never mind i got it:) yes onwards to part 2 then 3 then 4 then 5 then 6 then 7-_-

  • howdid you make the diamond thing flat can you make a video with an airiel veiw at that part 4:10-4:30

  • :> " V

    X?

  • these were emoticons of happy and laughing

  • What kind of paper is that? It can withstand so much pressure! Is it tissue foil or something?

  • And I thought the pattern would give me away... it's wrapping paper, and not good paper to fold with at that. But I guess I was desperate for paper when I made the video.

  • could you put a video f the duck by stepen weiss

  • difficult

  • yes it is

  • nice rack, i mean folding

  • OMFG thats amazing!! Too hard for me...Im a STARTED of origami rly lmao

  • is that a girl or a boy talking?

  • lol sara adams corse its a women lol

  • girl

  • omg omg omg i have finally made this scorpion....i found some book diagrams on the computer,in goggle. but thank you so much.

  • Can you send me the link?

  • 4:58 top of screen

im origami pro not only junkman!

  • rofl

  • gift wrap paper is great because it's so thin, and can cut large squares. I had to this to even begin tackeling Engel's tiger, butterfly, and octupuss. If your'e going to attempt a Lang, you'll need it. Foil backed fails due to so many swivels. Lang is quite difficult. Have you ever sucessfuly folded his working cuckoo clock? btw, Nice job on the scorpion. Sucessfully folding any of the advanced models from Insects and their Kin is quite an accomplishment.

  • what size paper did you use?

  • Ah, that's hard for me to reproduce. Looking at the video, I'd guess I used something like a 40cm square. But that's for demonstration purposes. The smallest paper I've folded this model from was 15cm, and that worked astonishingly well. I personally wouldn't go any smaller, mostly because I do want the scorpions to be somewhat realistically sized. For my taste, working with a ~20cm square gives the most pleasing result.

  • Thanks!

  • Nice video!

Could you plese post a video explaining how to make a Praying Mantis? I've got this book, but even with the diagrams is hard to understand...

My son want the origami Praying Mantis so plese thanks

  • thanks for the help

  • I can't see most of what you do between 6:10-7:40, could you please describe the movements to me.

  • Hm, I'm not sure how I could put this into words, actually. Try watching 7:18 to 7:40 a couple of times.

Basically, you push the paper from within up, so that you can flatten the model. You'll want to create a horizontal crease (mountain) on the top, and two slightly diagonal folds (valley) inside. The valley folds meet where there's an extra triangular flap.

    Is that of any help?

  • thats not origami paper is it?

  • It's wrapping paper. Whether that means it's origami paper or not - ah, a matter of opinion. You can fold with it (obviously), so that must count for something.

  • Great instructions, 5/5

  • nice vid im just a kid (9 years old) and i like the models i like everything i made it thank you so much

  • Not explained very well

  • i did all the steps seemingly correctly lol but at 4:00 the little square is WAY 2 little

wat do u think did i do wrong??

  • Nice video!

Could you plese post a video explaining how to make a Praying Mantis? I've got this book, but even with the diagrams is hard to understand...

My son want the origami Praying Mantis so plese thanks

  • i don't understand the minut 0:47

  • same someone help please.

  • First locate the two creases needed: One is the main diagonal, the other one is a crease that stops just below the marked mountain fold. Then take these two creases and align them with the main diagonal creases. When aligned (see 1:24), crease. Repeat on all four sides. Hope this helps.

  • i get all the way to the last part until i reached 9:00 i cant get the fold and my paper starts crushing messing up but the trouble started at wen i was folding at 8:27 the two pieces would reach the center can you plz help..

  • admsara where is that you see as if makes these origamis?

  • Sorry, I'm not sure what you're asking.

  • shes asking were do you get the instructions for these origami models

  • At the beginning of the video I do state in which book you can find the diagrams. So if you want them, you'd better buy the book or borrow it from a library or something of the like. In the end, I AM doing these videos in the hope that people will buy the related books. After all, that's how the designers make (part of) their living.

  • nice! i made one out of spongebob wrapping paper, lol!! my friend was all like, " i thought scorpiens were all cool and mysterious. Why spongebob?" lol, i was crakin up! thnx 4 the explaination!

  • Nice video!

Could you please post a video explaining how to make a Praying Mantis? I've got this book, but even with the diagrams is hard to understand...

    thanks

  • hey sara

which papersize would you recommend for this model?

btw your vids are so great and helpful

    thanks a lot!!!

(and maybe we may see you one day folding the ancient dragon...?;)

  • I think a 15cm square paper gives you a nice sized scorpion, up to 20cm is also ok.

For your first try, you might want to go with 30cm, though. That size paper will be big enough to understand the details, and still small enough to be fairly easy to handle.

  • omg soo much work

  • can u make a diagram for this scorpion?

  • You can find them in the book "Origami Insects and Their Kin" by Robert Lang.

  • ill buy this fight .. just need this big paper .... ill buy it. later ill post my video response sara. See yah

  • Great
