and keep up the good work - Wogal

  • it's not hard to set up, and there are quicker ways to install ruby (ie. 'InstantRails')

  • so you have to run on windows on order to run ruby?

  • This music is "Bonobo"

  • Is it the music from Sim City 4?

  • where we find you next tuts

  • Love the tutorial . it was helpful. I'm going to subscribe to you to get a dose of fresh tutorials.

  • thumbs up if this guy reminds you of Dr Steve Brule

  • hes sound like that sleepi kid on Peanuts cartoon

  • aaaah i see you study farts as well.

  • too complicated

  • Comment removed

  • nice tutorial

    tranquilizing voice

  • Fart study and squirrel picture at 2:13. xD

  • Yeah, I'm a Mac, so...

  • This video makes too many assumptions. It tells me to download the Windows installer, yet I am using Linux! Any assumptions should be outlined at the beginning so that people know whether or not it's suitable for them.

  • Music too loud. Speech too soft.

  • My complements on a tutorial well done! This is the sort of tutorials I allways tend to subscribe to. Keep 'em coming!

  • Why did you download HeidiSQL? I have used MySQL before so I am a little confused. Just want to know before I download everything

  • thanks bro.

  • Thanks, helped a lot

  • Please make the continuation of this video...

  • Thanks for this video!

  • arg, It won't install Rails!!! here is what I get:

    C:\Documents and Settings\Toto>gem install rails --include-dependencies

INFO: `gem install -y` is now default and will be removed

INFO: use --ignore-dependencies to install only the gems you list

ERROR: While executing gem ... (Errno::ENOENT)

No such file or directory - C:/Documents and Settings/Toto

    Please anyone has an idea??!?

  • My advice about starting Ruby on Rails: DON'T!

You'll be throwing it out of the window once your application starts to get even remotely interesting and replacing it with something properly designed.

Rails is only for creating blogs and simple things like that.

  • Large web apps like lighthouse and basecamp for example use RoR, RoR can be just as powerful as PHP\ASP when in the hands of an experienced coder.

  • you can make lots of various web applications with Ruby/RoR. Don't go telling ppl bullcrap if you don't know anything about it.

  • This is by far the best RoR tutorial for newbies. Hope to see more! Thank you!

  • whoah. thanks..

  • Thanks!

  • hi kayoksakayo....

i have tryied to install and i get this message:

Building native extensions. This could take a while...

  • i dont see gems on cmd prompt do i need to add the path name in the path variables

  • Make sure that you have gems installed. If you have it installed, and still doesn't work, then type in

    PATH=%PATH%;"C:\Ruby\bin"

This is only temporary, and once you close command prompt, then you have to re-enter it. There is a way to make is permanent, but the only way I am aware of is a long process, and needs a tutorial in itself.

  • thank you sir

for the reply but am confused where do i type this

    command you have given me

  • In the command prompt. Where you type in all the gem command stuff.

  • just put it in the first line that comes up....

  • Great tutorial....

    nice download

    2:12 "Fart_study.pps" wtf!

  • Yeah, I was aware of that, and even considered blurring it out, but it either way, it was odd. You made notice some quick zooms though out the tutorial so that kind of stuff would be covered. That was one of the few times I didn't.

It was a joke email that my parents downloaded. You may notice the ip address under the filename, and if you type that in, it directs you to Rogers Yahoo email.

  • woooooooooooooo, you're amazing !!!!

  • thank you for this great step by step. can you please explain to me why i need heidisql and the mysql. how does it interact with ruby

  • It was for future tutorials, but they were dropped for a new format I am making. I might still use HeidiSQL, however, I found out that MySQL isn't necessary anymore due to it coming with MySQL lite since version 2.0.

HeidiSQL allows you to control you database though a user interface instead of command line.

  • when are the new tutorials?

  • No idea. It's been a on/off thing with me. I am planning all future tutorials first, then record them. I have no idea how long it's going to take me, or if it's ever going to be released.

  • i hope you do because this tutorial was explained extremely well and soo simple, ive seen others on the internet and i wasnt able to follow them as well as yours :)

  • I did not change the security settings on my mysql server and I cannot log in to it... what is the default password? How do I change it?

  • @balanc3tube the password is nothing... just press the enter key.

  • so what the heck is it??? what exactly does it do??? oh, and WHAT IS IT????

  • its a framework package made for server programming. Basicaly, it lets people write online programes (like twitter) neatly and efficiently.

  • Thanks for this Kayle, you made a great tute here.. Hope you have the time to make some more

  • What a great tutorial, very helpful. Am aware your remaking, i hope you get round to it. Im doing a project using ruby and have to learn it from scratch so i will be definately following your tutorials.

  • Hey guys. I am actually going to delete this tutorial soon. After trying to make the next tutorial, I realize that I have to change the format a lot, so I am remaking for consistency sake.

  • Thankyou for this tutorial, it was really helpful ;-)

Make a tutorial on how to make a blog, like on Rubys website. But that tutorial is in Mac so its hard to understand for me

  • Thank you. This is great.

  • Thank you very much for this, I'm new to development so it is good to see a simple intro to even the basics, I will be following this.

  • thank you Bro, it's very helpful for 1st time in window

  • really helpful, thanks, when is the next coming up? :]

  • This was very helpful! Thank you.
