If you havent watched In The Loop, I can tell you that most of the best scenes couldnt be included in the trailer ... they are far to sweary- but it is a brilliant film, and, disturbingly, very close to the truth of politics and war.
@eujeeves - Gando not intimidating?? He was the ONLY one who could hold his own - AND PUT IT OVER - on the abrasive Peter Capaldi. Capaldi dominates this movie so fully that you might have missed the five minute scene between him and Gando where he does his usual sweaty swearing and General Gando elegantly puts him in his place as a loud-mouthed politician's aide.
If you like In The Loop, and are unfamiliar with the series The Thick of It from which spawned, try searching for Tuckers Law, it sums up Malcolms philosophy perfectly. You can get it on t-shirts now.
If you understand the comedy (dry comedy, like Dr. Strangeglove) you'll find it brilliantly funny. If you don't understand this comedy genre, you'll most likely find it very boring. I do not think there is a middle ground. This TRAILER however, does not do justice to the film! You must get the full impact of the language and body language that is used.

It's a great movie, but an absolutely awful commercial. Seriously, the "light-hearted guitar with laugh-prompt silences" shtick is totally inappropriate for a devastating critique of anglosaxon politics. Except, I suppose, in the ironic sense, but when the movie is itself awash with irony, it just seems to double-negate.

it would be fine acting if they were doing drama. unfortunately, comedy requires comedic acting skills and good timing. and what most comedy directors forget today is that you have to be able to film a comedy as a comedy.
I disagree. I usually hate comedy films that keep reminding me that they're supposed to be funny. The fact that In the Loop is executed in such a naturalistic fashion is what makes it so hysterical for me. Peter Capaldi wouldn't be funny if he were constantly winking to the camera a la Mike Myers.
And why shouldn't comedy make fun of the ugliness of the world? Sometimes laughing at things like war or slavery is the best way to deal with it. You'll probably hate the new Chris Morris film.

this movie sucked so badly, i tried to watch it 3 times and then finally just returned it. i missed that bob mondello recommended and would have stayed away if i knew.
a typical seth rogen hack idea that obsenities are funny in themselves. that a good actor isn't necessary. it would have done the director some good to watch "johnny 100 pesos" to understand that government officials cursing is funny when sprinkled with care and good comedic acting.
"When civilians go to war, once yiou've been in there, you never wanna go again unless you actually have to. It' like France." This is pure genius, and even more fun when you're actually french ;). Loved the whole movie, it has brilliant dialogues, and all the acting is excellent.

It's a great movie, but an absolutely awful commercial. Seriously, the "light-hearted guitar with laugh-prompt silences" shtick is totally inappropriate for a devastating critique of anglosaxon politics. Except, I suppose, in the ironic sense, but when the movie is itself awash with irony, it just seems to double-negate.

it would be fine acting if they were doing drama. unfortunately, comedy requires comedic acting skills and good timing. and what most comedy directors forget today is that you have to be able to film a comedy as a comedy.

I disagree. I usually hate comedy films that keep reminding me that they're supposed to be funny. The fact that In the Loop is executed in such a naturalistic fashion is what makes it so hysterical for me. Peter Capaldi wouldn't be funny if he were constantly winking to the camera a la Mike Myers.
And why shouldn't comedy make fun of the ugliness of the world? Sometimes laughing at things like war or slavery is the best way to deal with it. You'll probably hate the new Chris Morris film.

The Thick of It or The Office would be killed stone-dead by laughter, and yet it's hard to imagine a show like Seinfeld or even Father Ted without the laughter.

this movie sucked so badly, i tried to watch it 3 times and then finally just returned it. i missed that bob mondello recommended and would have stayed away if i knew.
a typical seth rogen hack idea that obsenities are funny in themselves. that a good actor isn't necessary. it would have done the director some good to watch "johnny 100 pesos" to understand that government officials cursing is funny when sprinkled with care and good comedic acting.
