  • VERY rare. 2-71s were a lot more common.

  • exactly 5 more of those, and I'd have myself an extremely acceptable engine

  • does anyone know if detroit diesel made a slant 6-71?? we got a NC10 aircraft electrical power unit here at work, and the engine is for sure a 6-71 but she aint straight up! just wonderin

  • @Michigander79 If they are set up for it the 6-71s can be run on a slant or even laying on their side, some old buses ran them flat on their side to get more passenger space

  • @Michigander79 - strange, but I have seen such things with half of a V8 or something similar... half a 12V71 maybe?

  • If I'm not mistaking 1-71s were only made up into the 1950s and for marine gensets.

  • i want one! im tired of dealing with fucking carburetors on my lawnmower...if i could throw one of these in my mower, id never have to clean the carb, or replace another sparkplug. the gasser ive got is alright for a single cylinder briggs 18.5 horse, but id rather run diesel. itd never bog down in 3 foot tall grass either, probbably wouldnt even blacksmoke.

  • Never knew Detroit made a 1 cyl

  • never seen a one cylinder befor I have had a lot of detroits to.

  • Love the old DD 2 strokes...They have a sound all their own... Torque monsters too...

  • Its so CUTE!!!

  • make a good generator

can you convrt a 2cycle gas motor to die

    sel???

  • A 2 cycle gas engine just doesn't have the strength built in to produce the high compression pressures required to ignite the injected fuel.

  • @FarmallDoctor No you can not. In almost any possible scenario. There are some small 2 cycle gas engines that use glow plugs but thats as close as you'll ever get. I think most of them are on the rc cars. A 2 cycle gas engine is an apple, and a 2 cycle diesel is like a pineapple. They sound similar in name, but you just arent going to make one the other. Large container ships use something remotely similar to the reed valve scavenging of 2 cycle gas engines, but nothing else is similar.

  • @ledzepplin12able No way. There are a couple of good videos here on youtube that will explain why the gas 2-strokes and the diesel 2-strokes are two COMPLETELY diferent animals.

  • Very very sweet

  • omg i love it i rele wnt one

  • very heavy golf cart

  • is that a blower i see on it ?

  • All 2 stroke diesels have blowers on them

  • thanks did not know that

  • @FarmallDoctor all valved 2 strokes

  • @FarmallDoctor Not quite. Chicago Pnumatic made 2 stroke diesels that were purely natually aspirated. Do a YT search for this "Chicago Pneumatic 100hp Crank View" I would have just imbedded a link but YT beta doesn't let me. This is a 2 stroke natually aspirated diesel. (non-scavenging) There are other engines out there also. Nice 1-71 though!

  • @FarmallDoctor for scavenging isnt it??

  • hey we got one of them at my job

  • I want one....I have NO IDEA what the hell i would do with it....but i want one :-)

  • lmao my thoughts exactly

  • same here!!!....maye make a hellacious lawn mower or golf cart lol

  • This is what Tim Alan would use on his lawn mower

  • HAHA.. never thought of that!!

  • @1dollarten maybe on his pushmower, on his lawn tractor he'd use a 12v71 :P

  • make a go kart!

  • very impressive

  • the 20v149 is actually 3 blocks

a center section 8v and 6v's bolted to either end

  • I think they were made the way they were so you could just slap cylinders back to back to get the number of cylinders you wanted. Like a boiler in your house.

  • No, the 2-71, 3-71, 4-71, 6-71, and the 12V71 all have single blocks. The 16V71 and the 24V71 use two blocks bolted together, as do the 12 and 16 cylinder 92 series, and the larger 149 series use two blocks, I think even three blocks make up a 20V149.

  • 24v71! 20v149, talk about torque... rumor has it that there is one of those mounted at the north pole and thats what makes the earth spin!! ;)

  • lol

  • @DionysiosA76 no it only keeps the world spinning, it took seven of them to make it spin or one over seven days

  • @DionysiosA76 yes ive seen it with my own eyes

  • You couldn't sneak it out in Cam's stroller?

  • Thats cool! I have never seen a 1cyl destroit or for that matter a 2stroke single cylinder that big
