  • love the video man

  • some great inforamtion here thanks

  • Im am sorry you had such a bad experience. I hope you will not turn away from such medical wonders. It may well be an mri that will save your life one day. That technician knows to well that clausterphobia can be part of the mri experience, that is why when booking your scan you are offered sedation if you feel you may need it. A technician is trained to follow protocols and procedures, NO excuses. I would report the events of your mri to his superiors. You deserved better treatment than this!

  • I had my first mri last night. The mri machine is quite restricting with only a few inches between you and it when inside. My technician tested the panic button before the scan began which made me feel a little better. She told me when entering the mri it is best to keep your eyes closed to ward off panic which I did not do and had to be removed, but only once. Although you cant move, once in the machine I was able look back and see clearly out which helped alot. I was able to complete the scan.

  • love the video really good

  • I had my first MRI scan last year and it was an interesting experience. At our hospital, there is a huge wall poster on the back wall of the scanning room, and when they place the cage over your head, there is a little mirror attached. When they put your head in the machine, all you see is the image of a beach and palm trees and blue sea and sky! As for the noises, well, I thought they reminded me of industrial techno from some underground club in London! I'd loved to have recorded them.

  • I almost fell asleep in mine. But when I first when in it reminded me of something out of 2001 a space odyssey :0

  • They should have given you some earplugs because the machine is loud enough to damage hearing.

  • Had my 1st MRI a few hours ago and funnily enough watched this video just before leaving for it. It isn't that bad, the noise isn't scary, just imagine being inside a washing machine, and I had headphones playing music put on me. The worst was the sudden panicky feeling from being in a tiny tube, but I calmed myself down, reminded myself the ends are open so I'm not trapped, and closed my eyes so I wasn't staring at my 'enclosure'. Worked a treat and I became really calm and relaxed.

  • Quit being a pussy. I've been doing MRIs for 10 years. You're all pussies.

  • @natew73 Thank you for your helpful and understanding comment. Maybe one day you will find something ultra scary or difficult but you'll be okay if you just keep telling yourself what a weak, wet pussy you are.

  • You guys are not making me feel better..

    l':

  • Dude just had one done yesterday it sucked balls I'm not even claustrophobic I felt like I was in there forever omg it was scary!

  • Oh... yes, I also got a cushion under my knees, as was laying on my back for the head and neck scan. They also offered a blanket in case I would be cold. I am not claustrophobic, but it is a tight enough tube that think could stress many people. Do ask about anti-anxiety med to help you out. Why stress unnecessarily, IMO. Keep your eyes closed.

  • I was given ear plugs, plus a ear muff cap in the head frame. The tech asked me if I was okay & I also had the emergency button, but never pressed it. There are a lot of crazy sounds. Just breath normally & relaxed. When I swallowed they ended up having to re-run that portion, as moving at all can make blurry. I had my head and spine done - first MRI ever had.

Don't let this guy scare you off having one done. Sorry he had a bad experience. Do ask for an anti-anxiety medication.

  • I had one today w/ IV & opted to take Xanax 1mg. You'll need someone to drive you. It did help relax me & I slept on the way home in the car. A really good recommendation that helped was to close your eyes prior to going into the tube, then keep them closed. I then imagined that I was laying under the stars. Was a tight fit, but not uncomfortable. The tech was very kind & warned me about each set of minutes of noisy sound effects. Longest set was 10 minutes. You must remain perfectly still!!

  • I couldn't help but have crazy thoughts while I was in there. Turns out I'm claustrophobic.

  • Wimp.

  • This guy is such a pussy. I have been in the MRI 4 times, 1.5 hour each. It is a bit boring, but perfectly bearable. Do you know (the guy who made the video) what bother it is for doctors if you decide to press that button? You waste everybody's time, including someones who could get that term in the scanner and maybe be helped....

  • You should have just crawled the hell outta there. Peace.

  • Trust me, this is rubbish. I have just spent the same time frame whilst they ensure my lung cancer has not spread. Yes, it is noisy but laying there I thought back 15 years ago when this equipment was not available and doctors were guessing! Anyway, had his alarm button failed you simply slide out, look through the window and point your finger! James should be thankful its available! Try it when you have cancer James...Maybe you would not be such a wimp! cheekygirlcass, Bless you get better

  • If you are slightly claustrophobic and can't handle loud noises then do make sure you contact the radiology dept. before hand. At first it can seem unbearable (it did to me) however with some help you realise it's fine and it is important you have it done. Don't listen to people who make a fuss over being a bit scared to begin with - it is perfectly natural, besides, they've probably never had it done.

And do make sure the nurse knows you feel a bit intimidated and the button does work.

  • Sounds terrible... The fact that the panic button did not work is a disgrace - what if you had a heart attack in there... they'd just let you die.

  • I feel so bad that you had a horrible experience.I am an MRI technologist with over 20 years of experience, MRI is an amazing tool that has saved many lives. I understand MRI is a difficult procedure to have for many people. Its unfortunate that you shared this experience for others. Someone who really needs an MRI may not get one now because of your video. I hope that your scan was negative and your life went on as normal.

  • What a pussy! If laying in a small tunnel with loud noises was the single worst experience in your life you havent lived at all

  • @george456789 So I suppose you've had one done to you... Otherwise I don't think you have any right to comment.

  • @MrPizzacatoMan Quite right, I havent, however I've been caught up in an explosion and felt the skin on my body burning and dripping off, was in an intensive care unit for a month not being able to move even to itch my nose, all i could taste and smell for months was burning flesh as my windpipe was burnt also. Additionally broken my femur and had both ends of the bone exit through the front of my thigh also going through the femural artery resulting in kidney failure, give me an MRI any day

  • @george456789 Yes, but you have not had an MRI scan... just because you were blown up doesn't make you better than anybody else at all. Perhaps these terrible injuries (which I'm convinced are 100% accurate...) are something to do with your lifestyle. To come out with such a harsh remark about something that doesn't even concern you is low, really low. I can't say you've made me feel sorry for you, I just despise of you even more.

  • It is quite claustrophobic but I wasn't bothered by it. Not that noisy when you have earplugs. Only thing I didn't like was the contrast.

  • I enjoyed mine!

It was a retro sci-fi experiece to 1990's experiment electro-dirty-hard-garage/house music.

  • I had the exact same thing except that they wanted to let me out but the cable of the button got stuck under the table so i freaked out after all the expirence with the mri i will not recomend this to any one it ruined my life and left me with claustrophobia i cant even go in a train anymore cuz of the stupid mri its like everytime i'm in a closed place i need to get out and panic and after all the mri didnt find what i had but a liver punction did

  • It isnt a panic button in a first place...

    That is just a fake...

  • same thing happened to me!!!

  • Yea I've had MRIs a lot and they have never had a panic button which is weard that they diddent have one but it is probably because most people get sidated because their kids and I'm a kid too

  • I just had an MRI a few hrs ago , and believe me ,,it was a Brain scan (30 mins ) ,, and believe me guys ,, i wanted MORE !!!!!!

  • SOunds like the place you went to was run-of-the-mill. Of so the headset didnt fit with your head in the cage, but did they ever hear of earplugs??? That and the bell not working, geez.

  • pussy, stop scaring ppl

  • I REATHER HAVE MRIS DONE THAN TO NOT GET THEM DONE AND FIGURE OUT WHATS GOING ON YOU NEVER KNOW IT COULD BE SERIOUS

  • MRI'S ARE NOT SCARY I HAD PLENTY I WAS ACTUALLY COMFORTABLE LAYING IN THERE IT WAS NICE & COOL IN THERE I ACTUALLY FELL ASLEEP I DIDNT WANT TO LEAVE...I DIDNT EVEN HEAR THE MACHINE... SO DONT LISTEN TO THIS EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT....I CANT BE IN SMALL PLACES BUT I WAS FINE WITHOUT ANY MEDS..HE TRYNA SCARE U PEOPLE

  • The trick is that if the panic button doesn't work, twitch and move your body a whole bunch as if you were having a massive seizure. They will stop the MRI and pull you out of there IMMEDIATELY!!!

I've been having MRIs regularly on my brain ever since I was age 17 in 1992, so I'm an old veteran at this. ;)

  • Please. It's one of the least painful/uncomfortable medical procedures. Don't listen to this, it's just not that bad at all - here's a much more realistic experience.

Watch MRI Experience by Lenzo 10 here on Youtube - that's much more like it. I just had one, and not my first, and all you have to do is relax. It doesn't hurt, and the other comment is right, it's over before you know it, and can get hypnotic.

  • I went for an mri tuesday (8th) and it was the worst experience ever. I was fine until the bed stopped then my music started and all of a sudden i couldn't breath. I was that claustrophobic i had to get out, and the nurse said my face was bright red!!!! I couldn't have it done as it freaked me out that much! I'm still having nightmares of "the tunnel" not nice at all. If the dr sends me for another to try again, i want to be sedated.

  • lol. watch this THEN watch this video. watch?v=wyhv5MeZhnU&feature=related

  • its not bad at all i had ear plugs and they put cusions by my ears also i just had one today for a brain scan too so the same thing he had and ya i had it for headaches and if i can tolorate it with a punding headache i have had non stop for almost 3 weeks im sure it cant be too bad without the headache...lol yep they were looking for a brain tumor so ill get the results in a few days the only reason i see is that it could be more loud if they didnt give him ear plugs or anything.. idk :D

  • Ive just had my second MRI today, it was 55 minutes long. It is loud. Im a nurse myself and always tell patients that it is very noisy but try to just breath slowly through your nose and relax as much as you can. You do feel panic once you are in the scanner which is only natural as it is a strange experience, but sedatives are available. Its performed everyday but that doesnt mean that people won't be alarmed by it as it is like lying next to a pneumatic drill xxx

  • If i ever get one i want earplugs and headphones, also i would make sure i try to get a scan in the newest machine i can find that has been made more quiet and can scan fast (20 mins or less)

  • yes i agree its sorta good to be prepared and have comforter! but if i had been told what it was like i probably wouldnt go..lol its tough call..

first time they gave me cloth over eyes and good headphones to drown out sound, my experience today was tramatic no cloth and sa how confining it was and no good plugs...it was so bad i hope i never have to again..

  • Remember to ask questions. Ear plugs are everything. They provide but you can bring better ones. Make sure you are comfortable.

  • I'm getting my first head scan in the next week, I'm getting the mri because I have had migraines frequently since my second grade (7 years old) so I'm kinda nervous that the metal in my root canals of my teeth are going to be pulled by the magnets. the other thing that I'm concerned about is having a migraine that day and having to go through an hour and a half with the noises.

  • They go over a long list of things that will prevent someone having an MRI with metal. The fillings in teeth were fine for having an MRI.

  • For everyone watching this who is preparing to have an MRI who are worried,

Don't listen to this. I've just had two MRI'S and it's really not bad at all if you're not claustrophobic. Yes, even with earplugs, the noises are loud, but after a very short time they become almost hypnotic. If you ask they give you a cushion for under your legs to make it comfortable, and some machines even have a radio (mine didn't, but the noises were enough to send me to sleep) and it's over before you know it

  • @Yadablahblahblahbla And the panic button usually works, this guy was just unlucky, the urse / doctor will also speak to you through the intercom informing you of the next scan length and when it will start

  • @Yadablahblahblahbla The whole idea of sharing this with people is so that they will be prepared. Just because you had no issue does not mean others wont. The most important thing it to be ready for what will happen. Be sure that they monitor your heart rate, have a friend there with you if you are at all claustrophobic, and ask for a sedative to calm you down if you are at all anxious.

  • @Yadablahblahblahbla I agree mate. I have had about 6-9 of the damn things. brain and spinal chord. Its worth the discomfort you might feel as it might lead to a better diagnoses.

    Cheers,]

    Mitch....

  • Thanks - I have recently learned that this traumatic experience has led to both Gastro intestinal issues and Panic attacks! I am sorting through them both, but holy

crap - these Techs need to be far more careful!

  • I totally agree with you, had a bad experience myself

  • I had an mri, no big deal at all......my oh my, sure are some weak minded people out there.

  • hi the espree 70 cm + 125 cm + 1.5T

Siemens has combined, for the first time, a very wide 70 cm bore, a very short 125 cm magnet and a powerful performance of 1.5T to create something very revolutionary: Open Bore MR. And MAGNETOM Espree, has the power of Tim (Total imaging matrix). A unique Siemens technology, which means faster, more precise results, no patient repositioning and shorter exam times. It’s exactly what patients want: More headroom, More legroom, More elbowroom, More comfort!

  • The MRI is uncomfortable if you are even slightly claustrophobic. Make arrangements with your doctor for a sedative, a valium does the trick very nicely. When they are ready to push the button sliding you into the machine have them put a cloth over your eyes, turn the music on, take a deep breath and slowly release it as you slide in. Keep your eyes closed through the whole thing. Focus solely on fun experiences that you had in your life until the test is done and they bring you back out.

  • i should have watcehd your video yday. i did my scan today and was NOT proepared.i thought i was going to freak out with the noise. and i think the one here in jamaica is MUCH louder than the newer versions in the US..was in there for 1 1/2 hr plus the intravenous then 15 mins..OMG never again!

  • I got an MRI today. I was in the machine for OVER AN HOUR (with one break for 3 minutes). I asked to listen to talk radio through the headset, but the machine was so loud that I could barely hear the radio. No one told me about a panic button. I just closed my eyes and lay still. (And yes I really wanted to scratch my face, etc.) If this really was "the worst experience of your life," as you say, then you have had a VERY VERY easy life. It was no big deal.. (or are just a wimp..)

  • I just had my MRI scan today, and yea I was a littler nervous at first, but it was okay.

What I didn't expect was how noisy it was, even though I was wearing ear defenders, It was still very noisy.

Oh, I also really needed to sratch my nose, but I was told to keep perfectly still throughout, so I was fighting the urge to itch for about 10 minutes.

  • I did an MRI and I was freaked out at first my heart was racing and I was scared I was all like omfg I'm gonna be in here for like 30 minutes?! But I didn't panic, did some deep breaths trying not to move too much (gotta stay still) it out and next thing I knew it was over. Then I went over to the phlybotemy department and had blood taken, I had a great time over there phlebotomists are cool!

  • i totally agree

  • i totally agree

  • Nobody told me about the procedure. I went in and it started and after 5 seconds i hit the panic button and said I needed to use the washroom. I was wondering what was going on with me and was going to just leave. I decided I would close my eyes for 30 minutes. I went in and closed my eyes and though of all kinds of things and id not open my eyes until i got out. It was a horrible feeling.

  • ok i'm having my first mri scan tomorrow. i'll be taking the advice of music and stuff. oh and making sure the panic button works! couldn't you just move a bit and piss of the operator enough to make them stop the scan and come in to talk to you? like if it was your head move your arms or something? idk i've never had a scan b4.

  • MRI scans are safer then CT scans...

Ive had a CT scan its awful. Im never doing it again because radiation will accumulate.

So MRI is where its at.

    Where ear plugs mate

  • Radiation doesn't accumulate. But a CT-scan is still an X-ray, so they don't do it too often.

  • I had an MRI IAM scan (Internal Auditory Meatus), 10 minutes. didn't bother me at all.

8 different cycles. had headphones and music.

  • I had a brain MRI this morning. I think I had a newer machine - mine only took 10 mins. As I am claustrophobic, I asked for a cloth to cover my eyes so I wouldn't inadvertently open my eyes and see how close the tube walls were, although my elbows were touching the walls. I did have headphones to muffle the sound - hate to think how loud they would have been without them. The noise made my body vibrate and I could not focus on my own thoughts. Thank god it was only 10 mins.

  • I am very sorry that you had a terrible MRI experience. However your not alone I also had a bad time in the scanner yet unlike yourself I demanded that they end it and I left and couldnt carry on. Apparently ear protection is offered which I didnt have, but I can relate to your experience. Good luck with any future scans but you should consider foam earplugs instead of headphones.
