You would think that Kayla would remember him from the time that he knocked on her door in Cleveland acting as if he needed to use her telephone. I bet at this time Steve nor Kayla ever dreamed that they would fall in love and eventually have a family together. SN and MBE had outstanding chemistry from the moment they were first onscreen together.
