This is not going to look very intellectual but I'm scared by the host, he looks like Borat, that aside Mr. Williams it's a genius, his works are ineffable and Mr. Perlman it's an unique virtuoso... bless them from making me feel as if I was in Ireland :).
i was drinking from a water bottle while watching this, and I almost dropped the water bottle. For a moment I freaked out because I thought I was going to spill water all over Itzhak Perlman's Violin.
You mean, at 4:23? It looks like he just threw a cloth over it or something. I'd imagine he was doing this to create a kind of "mute" that wouldn't alter the timbre of the trumpet the way an ordinary straight-mute or Harmon-mute would.
Not sure wether he does it on purpose or not, but seems like he uses alot of glisando to make sure he reaches the right tones.

Well this is personal opinion... But that's way too much vibrato for this piece.

What does the trumpet player have in the bell of his trumpet? I know why he has something in it, but what is it?

Haha! Very well done . . . but I just find it hilarious that Perlman plays the opening reel with such a refined classical touch.
