  • Amen. THAT is a sermon. You don't need to quote bible verses to make a biblical point. Nowhere in scripture does it say that what constitutes a 'sermon' is quoting the bible. The fact is, the whole world is full of sermons. Either they are preaching Christ or they are preaching away from him. Piper is preaching Christ, many need to hear this.

  • ...I thought this was a TED talk but stuck with it until :40 when he says "you do need to know a few things that are great, and be willing to live for them and die for them". Die for a belief? Drop your belief systems, all of them in one great splash and look around. You will spend the rest of your life contributing to the brother/sisterhood of mankind. We are in this together.

  • It's was a thought at that moment. If I were to resume and start defending it with you now it would move more towards a belief I suppose. I appreciate your question. It is challenging for me to speak without coming on too strong. The thought that we are in this together does still resonate as a simple truth to me today.

  • Many of his messages will do that. I'm fortunate to attend his church. Right now we're on the outside of the cemetery gates. One day, if the Lord tarries, we'll be on the inside. At that moment, the ONLY thing that will matter is what we did to advance God's kingdom, not our own. That's good for a kick in the pants for anyone!

    I cannot read or listen to him without crying on the inside -with joy that he stewards and proclaims the truth so passionately and faithfully,and with sorrow that it is actually we in the church that most desperately need to embrace it. Amen and amen to this message.

  • Yeah...I agree. Kinda strange how they don't

    believe in God, but that doesn't satisfy them.

    They don't want anyone else to either. I am curious as to why that is. If there is a reason, I'd like to hear it. I know God and have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.Nothing will change that. I am the worst of sinners but am saved by grace because of the work of Jesus on the cross.

    Perfectly flawed....that's me. I am a changed

    Do you believe passionately in god? Are you not commanded to spread the word? With respect SIr, why then should not Atheists spread the truth, there does not need to be a god to explain how we got here, and that religion is not a good thing for the long term prosperity of this planet?

  • This sermon changes my life, I heard it sometime in April in Desiring God Radio, are we collecting shell to see our GOD? I prayed that anyone listerning to this message, let the Holy Spirit minister to you.

    I been to Church for 10+ yrs and not been serving the Lord and not reading Bible

    Praise God after this message, I am not serving in my Church Prison Ministry, reading and doing bible studying 2-3 hrs aday.

    Nothing beat the Joy of coming to Christ.

  • He had a good point,but I can NOT say that was a good sermon.Not once did he use a Bible verese!In 7:56 I could of used a Bible verse and I am horribale at witnessing!He did mention that we need to live for God, but he did not use the verses that support that!How can we say 'I'm living for God! I'm prech about God!' When we don't

    use the verses that God gave us to use?!The Bible isn't there for 'use if you want'.It's there cus God Want's use to use it and read it.

  • You hit it with the bible verse, I am sick of going to church and seeing the bible left on the alter unread. We a usually lucky to hear more than 1 verse in an entire sermon theses days. Not a good sign.

  • There is a difference between a sermon and a message or talk. This clip would was taken from something considered a talk or message. It wasnt taken from a sermon. If you know anything about John Piper, its that his sermons are Bible saturated. One of the reasons i posted this particular clip is that i wanted to let people know the way John Piper articulates ideas outside of a sermon/preaching setting.

  • I hope you read this and get special from it. We make gods name shine when devil attacks us with sin and temptation. Before I finish a verse that god opened  to me I must say I don't know if this is in the bible or not but I KNOW that it is right. Gods name shines when devil attacks us with sin and temptation and we say NO I will not sin. That is one way we make god/Jesus/holy gost shine in glory.
