this movie has nothing to do with religion, history or any kind of story. it's a string of totally random events lined up to look like a jouney of self-discovery. in some sense it's a typical author's film, but there is no real message to it and i found it to be extremely boring.

The film is very ambiguous but if you try hard enough, you could generate some sort of meaning from it.
Look, not liking this doesn't make a person stupid or ignorant. It just means they couldn't find any progression in the story - if there is even one - even with all the nice, artsy little shots. And you can't say that a person doesn't have the right to dislike a movie if they don't know what it's about; that just implies that the film is not very effective in terms of storytelling.
I think the red visions were "One Eye" foreseeing the coming violence and/or the ultra violence that he knew lived within himself. We got a example of this when one of the red visions showed the rocky outcrop where he was ultimately to meet his death at the hands of the Indians
@gregmash Yes, he has the ability to foresee forthcoming events. These red dreams are I believe some sort of rejuvenating process were he heals his spirit, while he sleeps. When he is awake they warn him about forthcoming dangers.

@TEHWizardsofWoontown I understand your point about the "artsy" thing and i absolutely despise that within particular groups of people but i myself find it to be a very well put together film that really does make you use your own brain to interpret what is happening rather than hold your hand all the way through like most things in life do now.
Take for example the Twilight Zone episodes from the 50's, 60's & 80's for which had you constantly questioning. You don't get that now :(

Save yourself some time and record yourself staring at nothing for 3 hours in different places and put dramatic music behind it. The Archbishopric of Hamburg-Bremen was the first to send missionaries to Scandinavia. They didn't go with weapons or any kind of military force.

One Eye and the boy had earlier escaped their captors and met a group of Christian warriors who were on a pilgrimage to "reclaim the holy city of Jerusalem".
...they then traveled by boat from what is now known as Western Europe, most likely up around Norway (since they were Vikings) across the Atlantic to somewhere in Nth America (...as you can tell by the pine trees and vastly different woods / forests etc) to the "new world" where they encountered Native American Indians.

The Iberian Peninsula, Turkey, and many other areas were also originally all a part of the Christian Byzantine Empire until Muslims and the Caliphate invaded all the areas. Calling any of these areas for Muslim areas, or saying that they belong to Muslims is completely wrong. Every Muslim area today has been made Muslim through war.

Though they might have converted so they couldn't get attacked for being 'disbelievers', and so they might would get support from other Christian countries if they were attacked. So it might not have been about religion, but about politics instead.

Denmark was officially 'Christianised' in 965, Sweden was introduced to Christianity in 829, and was counted as a Christian country in 1050, and the Norwegian King converted in 994. After this Norse paganism slowly died out in the next centuries. Other pagans such as the Saxons and Lithuanians did have religious wars with Christians.

A group of Danes thought of this "new" religion as a major threat to their society and way of life, so they warned the Norwegians and the Swedes, the Norwegian joined the Danes' cause. Norse myths have been incorporated into Scandinavian Christian Traditions, and the Norse culture is very documented. But the new cultural, social and religious threat is 3rd world immigrants. Ethnic Danes are expected to be a minority in DK in less than 100 years, and society is adopting more to Islam.

The film is very ambiguous but if you try hard enough, you could generate some sort of meaning from it.
Look, not liking this doesn't make a person stupid or ignorant. It just means they couldn't find any progression in the story - if there is even one - even with all the nice, artsy little shots. And you can't say that a person doesn't have the right to dislike a movie if they don't know what it's about; that just implies that the film is not very effective in terms of storytelling.

I think the red visions were "One Eye" foreseeing the coming violence and/or the ultra violence that he knew lived within himself. We got a example of this when one of the red visions showed the rocky outcrop where he was ultimately to meet his death at the hands of the Indians

BS the entire movie is people staring at eachother and I wish I was lying but the entire movie has about 20 words said. I'm being very serious. Save yourself some time and record yourself staring at nothing for 3 hours in different places and put dramatic music behind it.
