  • so actual song :////

  • this map is kinda small

  • History repeats itself even as we speak...who remembers 2007/2008 Wallstreet and other surprises? up to this date? Our great-grand-parents lived through it (the real Dust Bowl followed by the Great Depression) by the skin of their teeth..such hardship...and they were the "lucky" ones! Stay strong in the face of it, "my darlings"! None of us here today would be here without such determination, hope and grit--of our ancestors.

  • where can I get more songs from this live performance? I have this song on my time capsule vhs......

  • Thank you very much for posting this - I used to have this VHS tape, but it was lost long ago, and I never thought I'd find any part of it again!

  • is it me or is the audio on this really shitty?

  • @YourTaintStinks

It is a little scratchy at the high tones, great nonetheless.

  • This is seriously the most saddest song ever written.

  • I just love her. I love her love her love her. I hope she never stops making music.

  • just about perfect

  • Her voice is amazing!

  • is this song about pot?

  • @changolist1 no, it's about the working poor.

  • @tranurse oh i thought it was about an empty pipe

  • @changolist1

The song is about poverty, using an analogy from the Great Depression dust bowl.

  • @changolist1 you idiot go away and smoke your pot and play your video games.

  • Natalie's voice is music!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She could sing an income tax form and I'd buy the CD

  • @tonedeftony Lol... You said a mouthful there. I agree.

  • I own a company located in a very impoverished town in central Indiana. I hire more than I need and it does little, with unemployment at 30%. The song by Natalie Merchant - Dust Bowl is 20 years old but still is so very telling of people I see..too many. Please try to remember those in these tough times who have so ...much less than us. Thank you and have a safe and happy holidays.

  • Fabtabulous. Unfortunately in these times there are too many people in the situation she sings about. Thank god for her angelic voice.

  • She looks like my mom when she was alive and younger.

  • @NaturVita u my dear must be a radiant beauty

  • The audience was on the verge of tears, especially the women.

    Look closely.

This song is rings true in our time.

Her voice is so beautiful, it hurts.....

  • what a voice, like an angel

  • Terrible clothes, like granny...

  • Does anyone know if this is an original song, and if it is what CD is it on? I only know it from Natalie Merchant live in Concert. Also if it is not a 10000 Maniacs original, who is it by? Grazie

  • "Dust Bowl" (R. Buck/N. Merchant) from the 10,000 Maniacs record 'Blind Man's Zoo' (1989, Elektra).

try Google next time. it's good for looking stuff up. :~)

  • @poisonsilentenigma Blind mans Zoo, came out in about 1992. It is an original. My personal favorite of theirs

  • @maizystar13 came out in 1989

  • What a powerful song. She verbally paints such an incredible picture.

  • I've been hooked on this tune for 3 week!!

  • wonder in her eyes...

  • simplemente impresionante

  • Natalie Merchant is tender Goddess.

    Luffs her.

    Luff. Luff. Luff!

    Be Well.

/How appropriate is this song these days?

  • I just didn't want toneron to feel alone here.

  • Amazing talent. So emotional.
