I'm 18, and I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis.
I had to get a colonoscopy back in March to find out if it was Colitis or Crohns. I was given an IV to put me to sleep. But, it turns out, they didn't give me enough.
I woke up in the middle of the procedure.
Oh God, I'll never forget how painful that was! TT^TT
And it turned out, I have UC. Throughout my ENTIRE colon.
I just wanna say thankyou for the videos. I have been diagnosed with ulcerative colatis and i half to have a colonoscpy april 1 and i was scared till i fould your videos
I had a colonoscopy yesterday for supected UC, I had zero sedation and the pain was unbearable, they only sedate people on our NHS if you ask for it, I didn't know it would be so bad and the doctor was really rough. The only good thing was I was out on the street again within minutes of it ending and able to go straight back to work like I'd just had a haircut or something lol
Well I got it done "gastroscopy and colonoscopy" the report said everything looked normal but the nurse told me that he two two samples :S funny thing is, I was diagnosed with Diverticulosis a year ago and there must have been some miss communication from the person who did the tests and the nurse, but the nurse said I dont have D and that everything was fine lol... well I KNOW I am not fine, but I wasnt in pain a week prior to my tests "I suspect colitis or crohns" waiting results:S
hello im called debbie im having a colonoscopy tomorrow and im really scared i started my prep taking fleet soda i have never been to the toilet so much in last few hours does it hurt when they do the colonoscopy .
@DEBBIEFLK Hi debbie, sorry I couldn't reply sooner, I was traveling abroad... but I was just wondering how you are doing now? I hope everything went ok. :)
Did you have Diprovan sedation like like president Bush Jr? I heard president Obama had a Virtual Colonoscopy. Fern was yours colonoscopy in hospital for heart monitor was an anesthesiologist present? Did you ever have a CT of abdomen?
@FEVER55555 I'm not sure what Bush has to do with Diprovan, but yes, that's the sedation what was used on me. I had a standard procedure in a hospital with the heart monitor and anesthesiologist. Never had a CT scan, but I did have a barium x-ray years ago.
thanks Fern, your video doc was great, done very well. The procedure does not concern me as much as not eating and losing a nites sleep. ps your adorable,
I was watching you ouideo after the procedure. i will be having mine in the next days, just curious that did you feel something when they insert the thing to your rectum to the intestine? tks
Tks Fern, just have my procedure this morning and feel nothing till the end of it. I was kind of nervous during preparation but I realized that I am already in the recovery room.
Hey girl. I'm so sorry about ur past experience.. And i am so pleased that ur results were good and that this time around u didn't have that experience again...
I have to have one done next week and i'm terrified!!! but hey i guess it has to be done. take care hun and god bless.
Thank you so much for the video it has really helped too..
hey sweetie, I'm glad to hear ur doing ok.. keep it up hey.... I don't think i'm gonna be sleeping to be honest so yea the prep sound OMG wat am i in for haha.. But thanks for the luck i am gonna need it lol xx
Hey, why would you need a heart monitor for a colonoscopy in the first place? I think I've had three or four colonoscopies, one of them without any drugs (pain, but it wasn't a full colonoscopy), but never once with anything resembling a heart monitor :p is that how you do things in the us? (i'm from norway, 18 year old girl, have had uc for about two years)
I think the heart monitor is a precaution when you're put under anesthesia. Anesthesia is optional, but I couldn't imagine being awake for the procedure - too painful!
I'm not a doctor, so I'm not sure if this is the right answer.
Sooo, you're not awake? i've never gotten the option to not be awake, they only do that if you're like... almost dying and in extreme pain. with me they just put a needle in my hand, drug me with sedatives and something like morphine. if i'm in pain, i just say "more please", haha. still hurts though. then they force me to sleep for an hour so i dont leave the hospital high ;) walk me down the hall so i won't fall or anything, haha.
I'm asian well half (thai) and I also have colitis. Had it for 7 years now, now 23 yrs old. Good luck with the meds. I'm slowly weening off mine (Asacol, imuran) and doing an elemental diet to put me into remission. If you need someone to talk to, i'm totally down! Been through it all! Even SCD, didn't work for me. Good luck!
Aww... its too bad SCD didn't work for you. I know it doesn't work for everyone, but it did wonders for me (after a few unsuccessful tries). Good luck with that elemental diet thing :)
ive been all all of those pills. none have worked. i even had to have these crazy infusions of remicade over night at the hospital. supposed to have an endoscopy and colonoscopy soon.. and a floroscopy ...fun right?
Great to hear you're going to be making more SCD cooking videos, looking forward to them : D. I hope your polyp biopsy results turn out alright too, it must be good to hear there's nothing seriously wrong though.
was wondering if you or anyone had tried an enema. god i can't believe i'm talking about enemas....only i had an aloe vera one a couple of times and i feel so much better it's unbelievable, obviously still taking the tablets but physically it's deffo made a difference. mind you it's not cheap. you can't have it with a serious flare up though, but during a mild one you can. anyway am glad you're ok, you're video was a lot more smiley.
Yikes!!! Endoscopy?! Sounds scary :( I know someone who when through with it and he said he was fine since he was asleep. He was more afraid of the colonoscopy. hehehe
Canasa is like magic for me, whenever I have a bit of increased activity I just use it for a few days it just goes right away. I was prescribed rowasa but I never felt comfortable using it sooo I don't know how effective it is. But its the same medication as canasa in a different form so I would think it would be good too. Hope the meds work well for you! Are you taking asacol or pentasa as well? (might as well get all forms of mesalazine! haha)
I used to take asacol, but it made my hair fall out :( So I've been on a different anti-inflammatory called Colazal and I've been ok. (OMG the pills are huge though!!)
They had me take the Rowasa and Canasa on the same day! Totally not comfortable, but it sure works like magic! I was normal after about a week!
Thanks to God that your OK I was so nervous for you... my doctor wants me to get another colonscopy how often do you have to get them. thanks, and again Im so glad that everything is good with you bye.
Aww thank you :) I'm not on a set schedule or anything, I guess I can say every 3-4 years? Its stupid, but I hold out so long because there are gaps of when I don't have insurance, so I can't get checked out. When it gets really bad, insurance or not, I have no choice but to go to the hospital - its expensive, blah....
do u digest food well? do u habve a big belly or something? i think i have ibs because i annot diest food properly and my gut feels that there is poison

Improperly formed intestines can give someone Constipation and hard poop from constipation can create the polyps.

I've never been awake, but before they put you to sleep, they tell you the risks and I had to sign forms. I guess that's how they do it in the US.
It looks like being put to sleep is standard unless I ask to be awake.
