I bought a Dreamcast in 1999 only for Shenmue. It was so fantastic! From the first reports on magazins i was very fascinated from the idea about this game. Please, bring Shenmue 3, Mr. Suzuki!
Yu Suzuki + Quantic Dream (the guys behind Heavy Rain) = gaming heaven. This collaboration would make for an incredible Shenmue 3, imo. Maybe the greatest game in this generation of consoles.
I would litually pay £200+ for a retail copy of shenmue 3 if it was made.

The English voice acting is much worse than I remember, I imagine nostalgia clouded my memories of it. God bless them for trying their best, maybe if Shenmue was released today it would have been subtitled, seeing as more people play import games/watch subbed anime.
Shenmue, pretty much like Ocarina Of Time, is a game much bigger and better than the sum of its parts. They're magical and carry an unmatched atmosphere thats really hard to put into words. Shenmue is, indeed, a quite flawed game, but you simply won't care at all as its atmosphere and story progression are so weirdly especial that they more than make up for its design flaws. I was a different individual after having experienced this game. Can't say the same to many other ones though. Superb.
I also got sucked up but the atmosphere and experience this game offers. But I can understand that gamers who only prefer actiongames can be bored by the amount of walking and the loads of dialogue you have to process. Difficult stuff for narrow minds. :)
The idea that I got before playing was the chance to explore one of the best and athentic looking immersive virtual worlds ever created. So I obviously had different expectations than you had.

@cadaverr totally agree with you, dude! It sounds funny to say this about a game, but my memories of playing Shenmue when I was about 13 or 14 or so are so precious. Such an absolutely unique experience. The slight weirdness of the semi-successful translations and the often shoddy voice acting just adds to the whole character and atmosphere. I wish this game could have blossomed into the epic series it was supposed to. I was hoping to see Ryo reach Europe or America in his story.
@SteakMusic Yes! I've experienced this game through the same age (I was about 16-17 though) as well and its effect on me was incredible. If you were a teenager with a sensitive heart and had the good fortune of having experienced this game at the time of its release, you were certainly in for a treat that you'll never regret being a part of!!! This is a living proof of how videogames can be meaningful for some people (and by that I mean the right games for its destined audiences).

@cadaverr They're different in many ways--The Longest Journey is a point and click adventure game with no action sequences or mini games, but it has one of the richest stories, most authentic dialogue, and intriguing characters of any game (in my opinion). It has a rich atmosphere and is not uni-dimensional at all in terms of its emotional range. Most FPS games only trigger rage or fear, but Shenmue and TLJ run the gamut from humor, to mystery, to sentimental moments, and many other feelings

Man, I really loved my Dreamcast but, just like everyone else, I was forced to move along and got a PS2 (which was an overall inferior console 'til later in time, imo). @teo1000t dreamcast simply rules! Matches still easily with some xbox 360 games if you ask me! Sure there is more on screen and higher resolution, but add that to the dreamcast hardware and voila. I wish Sega would release a Dreamcast 2.

@Tommy12Gauge try to play it on PC then the first Shenmue. Get the Nulldc emulator from internet including the bios and search for the rom and voila. Downloaded all the sega dreamcast CDI files ;-). I own already most original so then it's ok. But I have to say you need a strong computer.

It has a rich atmosphere and is not uni-dimensional at all in terms of its emotional range. Most FPS games only trigger rage or fear, but Shenmue and TLJ run the gamut from humor, to mystery, to sentimental moments, and many other feelings

@blattdanielmain : ) People who were sensible and lucky enough to have played (excuse me, experienced!) this masterpiece at the time of its release date probably have never forgotten it ever since. Man, I really loved my Dreamcast but, just like everyone else, I was forced to move along and got a PS2 (which was an overall inferior console 'til later in time, imo). Shenmue and Zelda: Ocarina Of Time are probably the greatest 3D experiences in gaming of all time (still enjoyed Heavy Rain though).

@teo1000t dreamcast simply rules! Matches still easily with some xbox 360 games if you ask me! Sure there is more on screen and higher resolution, but add that to the dreamcast hardware and voila. I wish Sega would release a Dreamcast 2.

@Tommy12Gauge try to play it on PC then the first Shenmue. Get the Nulldc emulator from internet including the bios and search for the rom and voila. Downloaded all the sega dreamcast CDI files ;-). I own already most original so then it's ok. But I have to say you need a strong computer.

wow wow wow for those who are alleging that the voice acting is bad you either don't remember when this game came out or just how amazing it was to see the level of detail in the conversations. The voice acting is just dated, it's not bad.

SOMEBODY PLEASE ANSWER ME THIS QUESTION... I remember a part of a video game from when I was a few years younger.. I'm now 15 and I remember a game like this on Dreamcast that my brother borrowed.. was there a part in this game where you had to find a black car or something related and/or you could feed a small kitten and go into peoples houses and see roaches in the cabinets etc?... THANKS IN ADVANCE u dont kno how much it would mean.. i swear this is the game.
